38 laps, hum, that should make pit stops interesting. I don't think I can do 8.5~ after lap 10ish but if a pit stop is around 26 seconds you would need to be losing a lot of time to make that work. I'm going for a no stop I think. Not sure thought.

It should be a fun race. Hope its a full grid tonight. :crazy: Pitting will be a MUST for me. It might be rough towards the end there if you don't pit, carracerptp.

I thought I'd share my tire run details @GVE.
Did 36 laps, for the first few I can run close to my current best of 1:08.5. Then until ~ lap 10 I can do around 1:09. Then through lap 20 or so I'd be in mid-1:09s, after lap 20 it gradually worsened to about 2 seconds over my best by lap30 and by lap 35-26 I was 3 seconds off. I ended up with about 1/4 tires left on the LH side and about a 3rd on the RH side of the car. I started with bb around 2/8 to even out the wear.
By ~lap 25 handling gets pretty hairy and requires utmost concentration (and for me - a gradual BB adjustment forward too) and it's easy to stuff it into the sand etc.
So I'd estimate that 'no pitstop' is feasible and quite possibly the faster strategy, but 1pit is a lot safer.

Looking at dsgerbc testing, I think if I baby the tires I will be "OK".

Sorry, I forgot to mention the new rule. Carr must make two mandatory pitstops and switch to Comfort Hards on one of those stops. :dopey:
 
Looking forward to tonight guys. I will be there come hell or high water or maybe both. I have practiced at GVE, and I am getting low to mid 1.09s for the first 10-12 laps. I hope that is at least somewhere around mid-pack. The car is excellent. It has just enough oversteer to keep you on your toes :sly:

Those are the same times I was running last night and I was 3rd to 4th fastest yet was able to keep up with the leaders as long as I had a small whiff of their draft so I think you should be towards the front half of the field. I was in contention for the full 12 laps last night but just couldn't catch the draft, had either of the front two made a tiny mistake I would have been right there to pounce. I'm feeling like a podium finish may be possible for me tonight, and that's the first time I've felt like that going into one of our races. Hoping I can keep my consistency up and avoid any mistakes!

The pace looks good for tonight, I don't think anyone will show up running 7s (OK, I hope nobody is anyway), so as you said, anyone in the 9s will be very hard to shake off in the draft. On the main straight you can pick up draft from almost a second back. So only guys running 7.9s or faster could actually drive away.

This car and track just go together, I'm am also running mid to low 1:08's hot lapping, mid to high 08's at race pace. Tires wear is outstanding and a no stop strategy could be the way to go IF {thats a big if} you can manage your tires properly!

Sorry to hear that mate. Hope you can make it to the next series. I have a feeling we're probably going to be sticking with the Silvia RM for a while so make sure to keep her in running condition! Feel free to stop by for any practice sessions in the meantime. 👍

I still might try a no-stopper. Just depends on where I end-up in qualifying and whether there is someone in close enough in front of me to get a tow on the straights, permitting tire-saving cornering ;)
Other than that - like I said, after lap 25 100% of my concentration went to lapping, so if there is traffic around - I'm probably gonna crash.

My math says pitting is faster. On lap 29~ the car starts getting to slow to make it work.

EDIT: I will be joining around 7:15.

The ORC_Champ lounge is open for pre-race practice. Qualifying will start at 8:00 EDT sharp!

And just a reminder, pitstops ARE NOT mandatory. You can try to go without a stop......if you're brave!

Don't worry Ace, even if you're not up front you should get to enjoy some very clean and competitive racing, and an overall good time. 👍

Really great racing tonight guys, really great. 👍 After getting caught in a first lap incident and losing all touch with the draft I decided to conserve my tires and go for the no-stopper. I got as high as second place after (almost) everyone pitted, as the real leaders approached I let them by hoping I could hang in their draft but it didn't quite work. I still had a top five going until lap 36 when cnd appeared in my mirror. My tires felt good but I didn't want to risk racing him hard so I let him by hoping I could possibly draft by him on the final lap. On lap 38 my tires were just a little too slippy to hang with him and I settled for sixth, still two or three places higher than I would have had if I stopped.

But the real story is that outside of lap one I don't think we had any real incidents, I could see a good majority of the field at times and never saw any offs or crashes so :cheers: to all. Qualifying went well and the starting grid was correct. I was hoping to fight for a better personal finish but besides that I couldn't be happier with how the night went and I still enjoyed trying to make a new strategy pay off. Big thanks to everyone for making our season opener very successful. :gtpflag:

That was fun 👍

Great race from flag to flag, really was a close one.

I finally found my 8.0 again in qualifying, so that was a shot in the arm for me entering the race.

Made many mistakes pushing as hard as I could in the opening laps. Dsgerbc, Owen, and Johnny gave me lots to think about :lol:

After the first pit stop I thought I could out run Owens but he just hung right with me. I figured I was all set for catching mister no stop, until I noticed just how long my pit was. I figured I would catch him around lap 35-36 based on my test.

Then I didn't check my mirror and hit Torzilla. That was a dumb mistake on my part, I should have seen if I was clear. After kicking myself and waiting for him to pass, Owen was now on my tail. I figured I just gave Dsgerbc the race.

It kinda felt like the Indy pre-race again, Owens and I trying to catch Dsgerbc. This time we had more luck thanks to tire wear ;). We just made it to him on lap 37. I was now P1 with Owen in my mirrors. Made a big mistake and was P2 entering the final lap. I got lucky in turn 1 and he gave me room for a run up the inside.

When we finally crossed the line, I had just squeezed a win by 0.1XX. After a 38 lap race!!!

Thanks for race guys, it was a blast.

EDIT: How did you keep your tires so nice? I had half that when I tried a no stop.

Had a blast tonight. Car and racing felt like our testing. Last night I was off my game. Tonight I knew I had to come correct or get whooped good. Didn't sneak the win but second in the likes of Carr, DSG, JP, Brandon and others is very pleasing. Thanks to all for respectful clean racing.
 
@Carr, after lap one I knew my only chance for a decent finish was to go for a no-stopper so I just settled in and did gentle but consistent laps, mid :09’s. Turns 4, 8 and 10 seemed to be the hardest on tires so I took it easy through those and made sure to keep all tire squeezing to a minimum. When you guys made your stops I still had over 3/4 left front and rear and lots of grip. It was a good exercise in tire conservation and helped keep me focused on a an empty, lonely track. :)
 
Good racing tonight. Should've had a 36-lap race instead (would've lost that one too probably), lol ;)
Heading out to northern Michigan for a few days in my BRZ, gonna miss Friday's race. See you guys on the oval.
 
Exceptional racing from my vantage point throughout the race. I am very pleased with third given the strength of the field. I was a little worried when I got in traffic I'd forgotten how to race door handle to door handle for more than a lap or two, but seemed to do okay other than a couple of bumps with DSG on the last lap. The first stint before the pit stop was incredibly close with DSG, Owens and I, and a lot of fun. After that I made three or four small mistakes that knocked me out of contention, but I have to say it was ton's o' fun all around. Love the car and the longer races, excellent choices both!!!💡

Hopefully I can make it Friday and there's room left!!:crazy:
 
JP was nice seeing you. As well you had me nervous. I know what you can do if you catch a groove. Lucky me you didn't. ;)
 
Great race today 👍 Only one time did I get hit. Fox drove into the hairpin a little too deep and gave me a slight love tap entering the hairpin. It didn't make any difference to my time though. I am blown away by some of the drivers. I am stunned by how I could be about a full second a lap slower than carr, des, JP, and owens. You guys are really great drivers. I started 6th, so I was right in the thick of the battle from the start. I lost the draft ahead of me about lap 8. A lap or so earlier I had distanced myself from norm and fox. The rest of the race was about smooth consistent driving. After I pitted, I was wondering why I had lost a spot. It didn't occur to me that Brandon hadn't pitted until I was just about on his back bumper. I did my best to use patience and wait for the right time to pass Brandon. I knew that I had superior tires and almost 2 full laps. I appreciate him driving me cleanly. In the end, I was happy with 5th. I improved a spot from qualifying. I will try to make it Friday if there is a spot open for me.
 
Enjoyed the race last night, :cheers: to everybody that was there. Can't wait for Friday race, maybe I can find that half second or so I kept losing through sector two by then.

It was great to have you and Norml and Ace join us last night and I'm glad you enjoyed racing with us. I think all the other guys that were there are ORCA Vets and have been racing together for quite a while now, we pride ourselves on being very clean and respectful, and it just so happens that a few of us are quite fast too. Thanks to running with guys like Carr, DSG, Owen and JohnnyP I'm starting to count myself among the fast guys. I used to wallow towards the back of the field but running door-to-door with top notch drivers like these taught me not only how to be fast but also how to be clean and respectful. This is the standard of racing we've come to enjoy and pride ourselves on so if you enjoyed last night there's plenty more on tap. 👍
