That was great fun Carr, we had an epic battle for the first half, even going two wide several times through the first hairpin and drag racing down the short stretch.......with absolutely zero contact. I feel my racing has improved greatly over the last few months and being able to race like that with you was exciting and showed me how far I've come. I'm confident that if I hadn't lost you in the pits I would have been right with you until the end. Stellar racing from both of us!

Motegi Oval We're sticking with SPORT SOFT tires correct?? Or is it going to be RACING HARDS?? Someone had mentioned Racing Hards, thats why I was asking. Thanks!

I'm getting :39.2xx with Sport Softs...
- -that must mean you guys are getting like :37's (lol):ouch:

I think it will be more about staying in the draft and not crashing. I think more incidents are bound to happen with more cars being in such close quarters.

I ran a couple practice laps last night and was hitting low to mid 38s...so yeah, some guys will probably hit high 37s. One end of the track is wide open, the other you need to lift just a bit on entry. The biggest key will be stay under control in a large pack which is what tends to happen on the GT5 ovals.

I think we'll stick with Sports Softs, that's what we did all our testing on and they produced some good racing. Racing Hards may be a little easier to drive but the Sports should make a long race in circles a little more interesting.

Okay...Sounds good. 👍

Gotta sharpen my turning left skills :dopey:

Phwew  I had done all of my testing on sports softs so far. I was thinking uh-oh, I wasn't testing the right tire. That would have messed me up big time.:)

And nobody went for a no-stopper?

Due to low turnout I made changes on the fly and knocked a few laps off the length to minimize boredom. Doing so would have made it a little too easy to do a no-stopper so I encouraged everyone to make a stop in the hopes of keeping things fair. It worked out nicely and everyone had somebody to race with for the duration.

I think the oval will be the hardest track to practice for. It's all about keeping your car safe for 75 laps.

Now, I know bump drafting is "discouraged" but what about trying to catch the leaders (early crash, bad pit stop, etc...)? I would think a gentlemen's rule of "don't bump draft if you are pushing the leader" could work.

^ Bump drafting is discouraged for the leaders, mainly to prevent them from opening too large of a gap to the rest of the field. The cars in the back are welcome to bump draft in an effort to catch the leaders. The reasoning behind this is to keep the leaders within reach of the rest of the field.

So yes, a gentlemen's rule that the leaders fight for it and the rest of the field works together to hunt down the leaders. 👍

could not make last weeks races but I am looking forward to 300 left turns this week.

Technically it's 300 left turns but only 150 actual turns of the wheel. 💡

Silly road racers, Ovals have four turns. Now in a road course mind set it would be two straight with two 180's. LoL

My brain is not working tonight.

Race night tonight! We'll be doing 75 laps around Motegi Oval, as with the previous race a pitstop is not mandatory but should for sure be necessary. Per the earlier discussion, I encourage the leaders to avoid bump drafting away from the rest of the field, but this only applies to the leaders. I say "encourage" because I'm not going to penalize anybody for bump drafting, I'm just trying to make sure this long race stays close and exciting for everyone involved. I think we all want that and a gentlemen's agreement should be enough to keep everyone happy.

The ORCA_Champ lounge will open at 7pm EDT for pre-race practice and we will be running on the Sports Soft tires. Qualifying will begin at 8pm EDT sharp and we will do the normal 10 minute session. Things may be a bit crowded so please be courteous and allow people plenty of room. 10 minutes should give everyone at least 10-15 good laps so if a faster car approaches please allow them to pass and try again on the next lap.

See you all in the Land of the Rising Sun!

I'll be giving the car a full rebuild, every last HP will be needed for qualifying.

I will do the same. Pit stop timing will be important. If you pit all by yourself, you lose the draft for a lap and lose time on the track.

That's probably less than the loss you get if you're slowed down in the pits due to traffic.

I didn't think about that, but I would rather take the chance of losing time due to traffic in the pits than being out on the track by myself. I agree that traffic on pit road does cost you a fair amount of time.

I think I lost approx. 3 seconds in the pits due to Carr's auto-pilot slowing me down, which was just enough to lose his draft. However, I think if I had left a larger gap between us when entering the pits I might not have lost as much time, but this was the first time I encountered this situation and I was unprepared.

I think it's going to be fairly easy to catch a draft on the oval though, I'm presuming pit stops will be later in the race and by that time the field will be spread out a little bit. Since it's not a very big track it should be easy to find a draft and latch on to it. It is going to be very interesting and I think we'll see several different strategies! 👍

Also be careful of charging the pit lane. That seems to cost you more time than you save by charging it. If you go too fast into pit road, the game "respawns" you at the beginning of pit road. There will be a multitude of strategies I think. It will be interesting to see what all happens. 👍

^^I expect there to be a fairly large pack of cars close enough to each other, so pitting at the same time could be a much bigger mess.

Given that bumpdrafting is strongly discouraged for the leaders - catching up to the pack will only be hard if one ends up all alone.
Anyone have any idea what the pit delta is? Maybe you end-up exactly a lap down if you pit alone and don't lose the draft?

Do you know what the max speed is for entering the pit?

Good thing I just got a new flux capacitor put in
