As it says this is only the best way to get thier final product completed and avoid issues and bugs.

Regardless of who tests it the speed of release always resides with pd on how quick its released after bug fixes

I read the title as: "PD MUST hire MOST fat and experienced GTP members for game testing"

The only reason I clicked was because I was intrigued.

I disagree. They should hire the fastest and slowest and gamers in between. That way they can test the game for all racing styles.

No. They do not need to hire anybody!! Experienced GTP members members play the game anyway. They just have build strong and open communication with community.

Exactly, there Q&A sucks! They must hire regular gamers to do their testing so at least the average gamer won't get bored because it is a sim.

Average guys that I know that bought this game new haven't played it since like Jan or Feb of last year. But I still love it!

Hadn't the GT community been doing this for the last year?

People really don't understand what goes into game testing. It's not as simple as sitting down playing the game. I know somebody that did it for years and said it's very tedious and time consuming. Imagine playing your favourite game, but having to pick it to pieces and play it 7 hours a day, 5 days a week for years.

Technically the game is always being playtested around Gtplanet and other places.

In this day and age(of the Internet), isn't every game a "play test?" 90% of games get a day 1 "update" and more from there.

I'm sure PD already does have product game testers who could very well be as fast or faster than the GTplanet members.

You don't hear about them because they're all Japanese and are just doing their job.... But don't think GTPlanet members are the only ones who can be good product testers.

I've been a Sony beta tester for around three year snow and have to say that its not as much fun as its sounds (and as a beta tester we get it after its been through initial testing - those guys have the seriously hard and tedious work).

You would have to accept that the game will fall over, freeze, crash, fail to connect, throw you out of lobbies, etc; and then as well as accepting it you would have to keep trying even while its frustrating the hell out of you.

I also have my personal doubts that most of the GTP members could be objective enough about GT to function effectively as playtesters, you have to be able and willing to be critical of the title you are testing.

I wouldnt want to beta test any game you wouldnt get much enjoyment from constant crashes and reporting on issues

that must be the worst job in the world.

Easily the worst thing about GT5 are the menus. We literally spent whole days buying cars, going to GT auto and so on. That job means going through the menus for months.

I've done plenty of software testing and I can say, without a doubt, that the very last job I would ever want is to be a video game tester. I enjoy video games and would like to not have that change.

Not to throw this off-topic, but how did you get the opportunity to be a beta-tester?

As portrayed rather well in this video :)

The game testing bit is towards the end as I remember :)

Sony post on the official forums when they are looking for testers and you put your name forward, if you get picked they then let you know.

You get emailed with beta details and have to actively play and post on the beta forums (if you don't you can get 'fired' as a beta tester).

Actually it says "we're impatient and we want to play the game" and also "we think we know better than you". Neither is a particularly appealing image to present.

Also, when you do stumble across a glitch, you have to exhaustively detail the circumstances that surrounded it and try to replicate it unless the powers that be decide it was a one-off.

Not to mention that Beta testing can ruin the fun once you get the final game. Because you had to play it very intense for a while, the final version, even with a lot more content, can become boring pretty fast.

I've tested one game before that I had helped out with in it's initial design and concept stages as a sort of liaison between race teams and video gamers. Like Scaff and Shortbus said it's not glorious by any means. Luckily this was before playing online had come forward. You're doing constant bug hunting I think I had 8 pages of notes after 3 nights. But it was good fun for what it was. At the point that I got the game is towards the end before printing but it was minor details and tweaks that I was looking after.

The thing that made the game successful was due to the open line of communication from race drivers, gamers, and the developers, just like Raitziger said.

They should hire japaneese people because so they all speak the same language.

Beta testing has killed two series stone dead for me, simply because of that factor. Not to mention then having to test games in genres you don't even like.

That most be tough, beta testing that new Hannah Montana game

Lucky for me its only Sony published titles, some I really enjoy, others are a chore.

Did you do PS2 testing or just PS3?

I did a PS2 title and they sent a system to go with it that would "expire" after x amount of time.

+1, seems like the best way to fix anything these days. They get good company rep as well if they open communication. Wouldn't hurt to hire a company rep to reply/view and post on a community website like this.
