so.....I can't put Silver chrome on my 1954 300SL to look like the famous racing car 1952 300SL????
I did that, and it looks good.

Wings are useful in fast corners, by generating additional weight (note: not mass, weight) and increasing mechanical grip and in straight lines, by counteracting any upwards thrust generated by the shape of the car.
Pfffft.
Hahaha, is that the sound the BOV makes or is that the sound you make at my stupid joke?![]()
I used a gold chrome paint on my Z Act.

👍
And the RUF BTR is from 1986.
Strictly speaking, wings do not add weight, nor mass. Rather, Wings have the effect of increasing weight without having the effect of increasing mass.
[edit]
I am reading different definitions of weight. Sometimes weight is considered the overall downward force measured, as oppose to just the downward force generated by mass and gravity. In this instance, you would say that a wing physically adds weight to the car at speed.
However looking what NASA say is the interpretation I have always used, weight is attributed to purely mass x gravity, as such an aeroplane is described as generating lift as opposed to negative weight. In this definition, wings do not add weight, rather lift/downforce (whatever thrust you like).

And gravity = force. The force of 9.81N/kg (give or take) towards the Earth. By adding force in the same direction as gravity - downforce - you effectively add weight to a car. Place a car running with a wing at downforce-generating speeds on some scales (which you can't do, even on a treadmill) and the weight of the car increases.
Weight is mass multiplied by the forces acting on that mass. This is why you can experience weightlessness even when well inside the Earth's gravity well (such as the Vomit Comet) by counteracting those forces - mass stays the same, gravity stays the same but weight changes. Add to the forces and you increase weight.
Acceleration x direction doesn't half do funny things to the world.
I'll let you decide![]()
That's why it would be described as having the effect of adding weight, without adding mass. Strictly speaking its not adding weight as defined by the mechanics term but the resultant force acts in the same manner.
As an engineer, I would always separate thrust from weight, even if they resulting force is the same. Perhaps that is unnecessarily pedantic for this analysis of the wing though.![]()
Dylans1oThis is dare I say it..... WINNING!
I agree with th OP,Chrome shouldnt be wasted on standards,it should be reserved for The Samba Bus,Kubblewagon,Shwimwaggon,,Fiat 500,iMiev etc.
But just to annoy you i'm gonna go and Gold the lowest heap of standard junk i got a 14BHP Subaru 360 '58.![]()
What cars don't need them? Spoilers are performance parts. There is no bad taste in them. Why do people put spoilers on cars that just don't need them?
I'd rather not use Chrome at all.1. Do not waste matte and chrome on standard cars.
2. Don't paint cars silver chrome or gold if you actually think it looks cool.
3. In fact only use silver chrome on rims. Never gold.
4. Matte looks best on really sleek cars, with smooth lines.
5. Metallic paint can looks really good on some standards. Nothing too jaggy though.
6. Make sure you rims look good from ever possible angle and rotation, And they don't overpower the cars paint.
7. Don't add huge front overhangs to premiums, unless you can also put in a side skirt and rear diffusers(Rarely).
8. When in doubt try solid textures.
As a scientist I'd always separate weight from mass and class "effectively" and "technically" as "actually"
If an 80kg man is floating because he's in a spaceship doing 24,000mph around a planet, he's weightless but still 80kg. If a 700kg race car is exerting more force downwards, it's heavier but still 700kg. If it quacks, waddles and floats on water, it's probably the same weight as a witch.

And again, aero is performance. Your advice there isn't very good.

It's because they haven't raced in decades, possibly before wings even caught on.Then why don't you see more Aero parts on 300SLs or 512BBs or Miuras in real life ? Because it's AWFUL

👍9. Everybodys tastes and opnions are different and they can do what they wish.
Don't you guys think making gimmicky looking cars is played out?
Indeed they can, but that is not a free pass for having ****ty taste.9. Everybodys tastes and opnions are different and they can do what they wish.
