Like i mentioned earlyer - what do Ferrari have to gain from being in GT4?

As far as they are concerned - they are the best - they produce the most emotive cars and have such a strong history of 'being the best'. They are non-compromising (a broken auto gearbox in a 456gt will not be fixed they will only replace it - at a cost of $75,000!) and make no attempt to keep costs down, or produce an 'affordable model' - like a boxter for example. They court the very rich - and even then they are very choosey about who they sell to. They openly don't like people cheepening their name - they sue 'replica' makers, and frown upon people modifing their cars - Koenig etc.

Why would they be included in a game where a tuned toyota supra can piss all over one of their cars - what would that do to their 'untouchable' image?

Ferrari cars are magic because of the way they look when you see them 'in-the-skin', when you sit in one and touch and smell the quality materials they are made with, and the way they feel behind the wheel when you drive one. All of these things make a Ferrari 'special' and none of these things can be realised in a computer game.

Ferrari seem happy to be in a game where they can continue being the best - PGR2, or where they can be exclusive - Outrun. But as far as i can see they have nothing to gain from being in GranTurismo - only losses.

Don't get me wrong - i prefere Lambos and Porsches anyway!

That's some pretty good rationale, but Ferraris aren't the best in most NFS titles they've appeared in, so I don't know...

The petition to shut down the Gran Turismo 4 forums until GT4 comes out wasn't controversial, it was crap.

A cut down versions of Johns post below ...

"I like ferrari, but I don't think they will be in"

You've indirectly answered your own question... why would Ferrari want to be in GT... because to be the best you want to beat the best and you want to be in with the best. GT is the undisputed heaveyweight champ of automobile gaming... it is the most recognized and respected series especially in the automotive industry... hell it's being used to train for racing by real drivers (the Falken Skyline team used GT to practice for the 2004 24hr Nurburgring race) if that doesn't show how money GT is i don't know what will... so if Ferrari is going to be represented in digital form, it no doubt wants the attention to detail and precision they pay in manufacturing to be equally represented by the modellers and physics engine of GT. So it's obvious they'd want to be in GT.

I can guarantee Ferrari doesn't care at all that a tuned Supra could compete on the track with their factory cars... Ferrari's mystique and cost is built by the rareness and hand fabrication in the building of these gems... hell to get an Enzo you had to have previously owned an F40 and an F50 and then apply to Ferrari to be authorized to buy one of the 399 made... that's why they're going for $2+million (the original factory list price was $675,000).

There's no way you can say that games like PGR2 or Outrun improve Ferrari's image... whereas GT can... what better way to foster the lust and desire in the automobile enthusiast community then giving people the closest thing most will ever get to driving the premier vehicle in the world. 👍

I suppose there are many indepth arguements about Ferrari's involvement (or not) with the GranTurismo series - but until GT4 comes out and EA's licence with Ferrari expires in November - our questions won't be answered!

I'm liking this phantasm guy.
Yeah,me too. 👍 Regarding Ferrari, with their racing history and the like I would have thought they were the very essence of what Granturismo stands for.I mean how many models did they produce in the 50-70 that had "GT" in the title?

Going by that reckoning then Volkswagen would be the ultimate essence of GT!!!!!

So would Toyota, and Ford and Alfa....

I totally agree that Ferrari (and Lamborgini and especially Porsche, with their competition history being probably richer than Ferrari's) are thedefinition of GranTurismo but whether this is because of licencing deals or whether its because they don't belive they can benifit from being in the game doesn't change the fact that GT will not be complete until they are in the game. The more they try to squeeze obscure manufactures in (Gillet etc) the more the series appears lacking the vital ingredients that we all want.

Never played a GT game before? Porsches are included under the name "RUF", RUF is one of the main Porsche-tuners (+Gemballa). have a look around in some older threads...you'll find out the exact reason.

The Ruf's in GT are not tuned Porsches.

WHAT ARE THEY THAN??? PLEASE TELL ME!

The Cars are bought from porsche and licensed to be modified and then sold under the name RUF.....

Let me speak for the American car fans (some of you may hate me for this, but I'm doing this for if an American car lover wants to represent) by mentioning another GT. What about the Pontiac GTO? That Gran Turismo O... can't say the "O" part of GTO. This was off-topic for sure.

The body shells are bought direct from the manufacturing plant before having Porsche markings put on them, Ruf then buy's some parts from Porsche but it's parts only. Ruf then uses it's own parts for I think it's the remaining 70% of the car (it's something like that), because the majority of the cars parts are not identical to the Porsche equivelent the car is not a Porsche and as a result it is not a tuned Porsche. Ruf do offer tuning kits for Porsche owners, but the cars they build are Ruf's and only Ruf's.

the chassis and some parts are bought from Porsche, but the majority of the car is made by Ruf, hence the disapperance of all Porsche emblems... they are entirely unique cars from their Porsche parents, not merely 'tuned' versions of the production models. Most of the body panels, engine components, wheels, brakes, etc are all RUF components made by RUF.

"A Ruf sports car’s strength and appeal, is underplayed irresistability, is based on a concept that many sports car manufacturers appear to have lost. That is the basis of a car whose evolution is not dictated by model year or competitive products, but rather by recent completions and integrations of technical developments. Thus continued increases in performance are seen through engines built with extreme precision, optimal chassis tuning proven through extensive testing, technical expertise shown by the development of specially designed high speed brakes and wheels, and six speed transmissions; all trademarks of the Ruf philosophy. This approach has resulted in such vehicles as the CTR, CTR II, BTR, Turbo R, R-turbo, RGT, RCT, 3400 S and 3600 S models which have become known worldwide as being among the foremost examples of individually developed quality and performance."

The term GTO is "Gran Turismo Omologato" which means "Grand Touring class production car, homologated for racing" in Italian.

Ferrari 288 GTO 'The most beautiful'. IMO of course.

Ferrari does have something to gain from being in GT4, one word, sponsors. If driving a 360 or an Enzo in this game will spark an intrest in F1, then more viewers of sponsors on the car. The average GT4 player may not be able to afford a new 575, but a pack of Marbaralos (sp) or a Tommy Hillfiger shirt (they still sponsor Ferrari right?) is not out of their reach.

Haven't seen the ton of threads created about Ferrari and Porshe ?
Haven't seen the number of Porshes in the Signature Edition DVD? You look at some older threads buddy..

Not sure about Tommy Hillfiger but they may be. I know that despite being an avid non smoker, I'd buy some Marlboro crap if they ever looked like being in financial difficulty (it won't ever happen but I like to think I'm dedicated). Sponsors of racing cars placed in the game would probably be quite positive about the inclusion because it just expands their audience even further.

.....uummmm, not sure wether to post this pic, i've just found it on the alta vista image search facility, i don't even know if it is from GranTurismo or from 'Gothem' - but it does look like the high res photo mode screens, although i can't identify the track (hong kong?)

Anyway, its not the car i'm talking about, its the signage on the right-hand side that looks suspiciously familiar...
