^^ also he won't ask what your energy depletion will be over the round, you will want to keep that in mind as some courses get harder and more hilly as the round goes on, therefore you use more energy getting around the course thus not hitting 100% as hard as you can, just something to keep in mind mate,

While this is true, I normally play at a golf course where most of the holes are fairly hilly and can be quite a fair walk on a hot day.

I think I just need to start being more consistent with my swing speed.

Speaking of which how do you guys manage with your energy levels and such? I normally grab a hot dog and a Pepsi Max at halfway and I feel good to go.

Well my week day golf I tee off at 7am so its usually some macca's lol, it depends really on if I get up on time, I try to have something filling and hearty, like a big bowl of roasted oats with a decent portion of yogurt, fresh fruit and milk, keeps me going till late in the afternoon, but I do not eat within half hour of play, doctors tell me heavy solids ie steak, lamb, etc, in your digestive system can hinder your performance as your telling your muscles to do one thing and they have to do other things like absorb heavy nutrition, so during the game I top up with water and gatorade's or soft fruit, banana, apples, grapes etc,, saturdays is more a family social thing and we tee off after 12 even though we are in the comp so we generally top up with beer, which strangely in moderation was recommended by my GP, (whom was in my group that week lol) during our golf festivals I will grab a sausage half way to help out the charity but that's rare when they do a sizzle,

Haha fair enough, my breakfast is probably leftover chinese food we normally eat on a Saturday, still not too bad having some noodles and a few dumplings in the morning

Before the round, I usually eat a Snickers bar and drink a Blue Powerade. At the turn, another Blue Powerade and some sort of sandwich, sausage, a bratwurst, ham and cheese (no hotdogs) :yuck:.

I tried the RBZ driver today in many different shaft and head combinations, that thing feels so freakin sweet, I'd like to take it out for a round but our pro shop doesn't stock it,

Sucks that you can't take it out for a round, should try and find demo days to hit these drivers, so many choices for me!

The choices have been made harder by the technology that goes into the club head, taylor made, titleist and ping are so marginal, it comes down to comfort and feel, but you can't be to comfortable because you will lose distance, that's why I carry the R11, I'm not overly happy with the feel or the sound of the club, but when I smack the crap out of it I'm easily clearing 320m on the fly, if I hit it hard and perfect I have no problem driving a par 4 green and have it plug,

True that, I've got a few drivers on my list that I definitely want to try out.

Keep away from callaway, cleveland and cobra, they lose compression within the warranty, they can hit as long as the others but will gradually hit shorter and shorter and shorter, my first cobra driver was top of the market in distance in 2001, I lost 20 meters by 2003, I kept it because it wasn't worth anything when I tried to trade it in, but I used it early this year and its shorter again, I was almost going to use it as a 3 wood because its just a little longer longer then a 3 wood off the deck but with a better trajectory and flight pattern,

Haha alright, so I guess I'll stick between my two options of Ping and Taylormade

Well personally I'd drop the ping idea, they make a good bat but its not for me, I tried bubba watson's pink driver I hit it as far as the taylor made but the price really sent me packing lol,

Didn't know there was a thread like this! I've been playing since about 5 as my whole family are golf enthusiasts. My bag consists of the RBZ 1, 3, 5 and hybrid. All of which are the Tours. My iron set are the Taylor Burners and my wedges are Clevlands. I try a new putter about every week as I can't putt for my life. My game is rather good until I get to the green so my handicap is a 8, respectevly. Anyways does anybody have any good suggestions on a putter for a person that hits way to hard? My aim is alright but I kill them. I always have.

Have you tried using a reverse grip? That may be able to help, maybe you should try like a broomstick or belly putter

I had the same issue, I'm now using a a taylor made ghost 170 with a tiger shark fat grip, I have no problem sinking the 15 footers now lol,

You could also try the "claw" style putting, that nocked my mate from 16 to 3 handicap,

Whoa, well that was an awesome one hour fitting with my coach.

After trying out an RBZ, some Callaway and a Ping and having particular stats measured with a FlightScope, I was told statistically that I was using the Ping the best out of all the clubs. For some reason the face on the RBZ I found a tad too curvy and the white head sorta distracted me when I swung it back because it's white. The callaway I was hitting good but the trajectory was way too low. But when I was using the Ping, I was right in my comfort zone and the club in it's colour looks absolutely sexy :p

Hopefully I can get the driver before tomorrow so I can use it for my weekend rounds.

Ping i20 driver with 10.5 loft and a stiff shaft, sounds awesome :D

Its weird that they would give you a stiff shaft with that higher loft head on it,

I hit a 9.5 with a stiff shaft, the ball flight was good but was actually way lower then what I'm used to.

With 10.5 I was able to get the ball on a slightly better ball flight with more roll.

All of those companies have changed the material they use in the clubs since 2001. They all make great drivers. I have a cobra amp driver and can't complain at all. It's long and very forgiving.
I really can't believe you would say stay away from callaway, Cleveland, and cobra.

That cobra driver I spoke of was the most wanted club of its time, I loved it back then and still want to use it lol, I'm not saying they make junk, its just they struggling a bit in the technology race, cobra in cleveland in particular is about 2 years behind titleist in R&D and titleist are more focused on selling balls not clubs, also when greg norman owned cobra he new to make money that they would need a new producr every 2 years that was better then the previous product but not as good as it could be to get loyalist cash turnover, ping on the other hand give a 3 year warranty and if you manage to fracture a club head some how they will replace it at 50% of the original cost price if its outside its warranty,

Also with cobra, they stopped R&D from 2005-2009 because they needed to sell what they had, at a stupid high price to make it worth their while, the last greg norman owned cobra clubs there is a full set still sitting in my clubs pro shop since 2009 and the price has been dropped by almost $800, to around $350 I'm thinking of purchasing them for dad when he comes to visit with the folks, now cobra has been bought by puma clothing late 2010, but even still I can't get the distance out of a new cobra that I can out of a titleist or taylor made club, plus I'm not the only one sharing this issue at my club, a fella I play golf with sometimes got a cobra amp about 3 months ago, just watching his game change over the last 3 months has been great, he's dropped from 24 to 15 handicap his swing has improved so much, but he is losing distance off the tee, I talked him into trying out a titleist driver, and instead of using a 5 or 6 iron in, he's using at the most an 8 iron in now,

My personal game for me is all about driving distance, I get more enjoyment out of slaughtering everyone off the tee block then I do cashing in birdies, but the problem I have is shaping the flight, I'm between 2 drivers, the 910D3 at 10.5 with reg shaft for shaping or my R11 at 9.0 with grade 4 tour stiff shaft for what my club pro calls nuked darts lol, its rare that I get over tree height with the driver but I hit it that hard its travelling 300m before landing and getting a hell of a lot of run after that, I've driven more greens this year then all of the recorded green drives on the course, I usually drive 1 every 2 to 3 weeks, and they aren't the shortest par 4s in the world, I drove the 1st green in an ambrose this year, that's a 407m par 4 with an elevated tee, that was using the wilson staff FG tour X ball, that and the standard FG tour ball are the only balls I can get that distance out of, the rest of the balls I have tried penta, pro V1, tour D etc just don't go that far lol,

Wow, give me some of your muscles and driving distance

Meanwhile for me I've only been hitting my drives around 210 metres or so but hopefully that will change with my new driver and I play at a fairly short course (Par 65)

Hopefully with my i20 driver I'm able to hit the ball to the point where I'm only 100 metres out or so. I have hit my drives around that distance before but not consistently enough and around my course if I want to get down to singles then I need to be hitting the greens in regulation.

Cleveland wedges .... 👍

No putter is going to help you on speed control. While they may posses a different feel upon putting, it's all about the tempo of the swing. Slow down, take your time, take a breath, it will come with practice, practice and more practice.

I got the cleveland CG15 64 wedge in the bag, mainly use it for green side bunkers, even out of the sand they have great check

I do quite like my dad's cleveland wedges (52deg and 56deg CG12 I think), but I prefer my Wilson Staff TW9 60deg. I have a gap wedge in my bag at 50deg, Wilson Staff SW at 55deg, and my TW9 lob wedge. The lob wedge has great feel, and the backspin it generates makes me feel like I'm a way better golfer than I am :p

That's what I like doing, people can't believe how much backspin I get from the tee on a par 3 with my titleist AP2 PW-7iron nor can I, I aim for the back of the green completely fly the fron bunkers and have the ball come back,

I'm glad I found this thread. 👍 I am currently on my high school's golf team. As far as clubs, pretty much anything today is good. I use Cobra AMP driver which is 9.5 degree Aldila RIP stiff. I'm not crazy long like Dave  , but I can poke one about 275 every now and then. My 3-Wood is also Cobra AMP 15.5 degree Aldila RIP stiff. I use King Cobra oversize (Greg Norman) irons. They are muscle back with True Temper steel stiff shafts with Lamkin tour velvet grips. I use a dinosaur Cleveland CG-10 56 degree wedge that I have dug more grooves in twice. I also use a Cleveland CG-14 60 degree wedge when I am feeling aggressive with a flop shot or in bunkers. I use a Scotty Cameron Circa 62 putter that is about 5 years old. I bought it for 80 U.S. dollars about 3 years ago, and it has been the best $80 I have ever spent. I switched my putting stroke to the claw in early June. I no longer have the yips on those 4 footers. I like using the Bridgestone B330-S tour ball. I like them because they give extra spin to make up for my ancient wedge :p My handicap index is sitting at 13.5 right now. My favorite tour player at the moment is Matt Kuchar. The reason why I like Kuch so much is that I have a flat swing like he does.
