I once played a PGA tour course while it was still setup for them. I average mid 90s when I play a little more regularly and my god was it the most frustrating round of my life. I literally putt a ball off the green and into the water on one hole because the greens were so fast.

Well the round wasn't frustrating but the weather was absolutely shocking which didn't help my score. Also my playing partner putted his ball off the green and into the water as well

In the meantime I'm trying to aim to get down to single figures by February next year, shouldn't be too hard right?

This weekend I'll be playing in a 4 man scramble here at Great Trails Golf Course Yeah, we're stacked. :sly:

Evidently we were not stacked tall enough ... :grumpy:

We came in at -17 and lost the scramble by 1 stroke. (2nd place)
What does a team have to do to win a scramble around here ? 💡
Birdie EVERY hole obviously !!! ...... 17 birdies and 1 par just was not enough. :indiff:

Still had a lot of fun doing it.

Scrambles are a lot of fun, everyone chips in somehow, no matter how good or bad they are. I did one last year with my dad and a couple of his co-workers, it was fun. I'm pretty dependable with my driver, and I'm good for about 240 yards in the fairway almost every time. I went first and gave us something playable, then the other guys were free to just wind up and swing for the fences.

Just back from my round today. Shot a 98, 53 front and 45 back and in my defense I was half asleep on the front as we teed off at 7 am  I'm pretty happy with my back nine though. Had a 290 yard drive today which is the farthest I've ever hit a ball. No wind or elevation help either, 465 yard hole and I was about 15 yards shy of the 150 marker and I believe the tees were set a little further up in the box. Of course I naturally bogey the hole after hitting my 2nd in the sand.

That's me. I hit a great drive, and then duff it or put my approach/chip shots 30 feet from the hole

British Open time

Adam Scott leading the way at -6 after round 1.

My boy Lefty ... Phil Mickelson is a bit off pace ... +3 (Lets pick it up Phil :grumpy:)

So who do you like this weekend for the Open ?

Leaderboard after round 1

Come on Adam Scott!!!!!

I'd love it if he won The Open championship, it'd be his first major and really positive breakthrough in his career.

Ouch... 3 bogeys from A1 positions...

Then on the last, a too well hit 3 wood like a bullet, evading the wind into a fairway bunker. Hit a great third. Missed (read?) putt...

Game. Set. Match.

I'm happy for Ernie, I was not rooting for anyone in particular but there was some good play all about, he is a class act, it's not easy backing into a win like that. He deserved it and his climb back up after the difficulties he had with his son etc must make it pretty sweet.

👍 was a good 4 days of watch.

:nervous: Adam Scott :nervous:

I started pulling for him after Mickelson failed to make the cut. :grumpy:

Was the pressure too much ? Knowing he had a 4 stroke lead over Els all he head to do was just play golf, the same game of golf that kept him in the running all weekend for the championship and he would have been fine. I feel bad for Adam, it would have been great to see him pull off his first major and get that monkey off of his back.

There will be more chances Adam, hang in there and you'll get one of these biggies. He is talented and he will get one.

That was my birdie putt :D

Someone left a sneaker on the green? Wow! Did you just leave it there? It would certainly be a distraction when putting!!!!

Going to that same course again this afternoon, maybe another birdie putt is in the cards :sly:

Nope unfortunately, had an up and down for par on a long par 5 though.

Whoever said that it never rains on a golf course is lying.
We had a foursome planned today, but it is raining like it's nobody's business.

Oh well. :indiff:

WOOHOO!

After at least 6 months I finally played under my handicap with 12 over :D

That's impressive news, anytime you play under your handicap is a satisfying feeling for any golfer!

As for me, played today at Royal Pines (home of the Aus Ladies Masters) off the back tees. I've played there 7 times, rained every time. Today was miles different. Nothing but sun, and with that, my first great game in almost a year. Shooting +3 meant a good round, and finally a return back to form. Driver was its usual self (Pretty consistent, long enough (about 300+ yards) and finally my iron game worked. Putting is still scratchy at the moment, but it is improving!)

And in my bag, subject to change soon:
Titleist 910 D3 driver (8.5 degrees)
Taylormade R11 3 wood/hybrid (14.5 and 19 degrees)
Taylormade burner 2.0 irons (4 - PW)
Vokey wedges (GW, SW, LW)
Oydessy black series putter

Whoa, just donate your clubs to me once you're done with them :p

What handicap do you play off by the way?

:p

Currently, I'm playing off 9, but it's getting lower.

Wow nice, I'm trying aim for a single handicap by the end of February next year.

In the meantime I'm in the need for a new driver, my golf coach just told me that it has 12 degrees of loft :scared:

I can tell though, I hear the ball spin a lot more and I can't bomb the ball beyond around 200 metres without hitting the ball like a really tall rainbow :(

So what weapons are you in the market for ?

I've been kicking the idea around of a new set myself. Thinking of trading in my Cleveland TA6's for a set of Callaway RAZR X Musclebacks. I had a chance to hit these at a local pro shop (indoor range), these things are sweet, soft feel, not overweight by any matter. They just feel right. Also tossing the idea of going to a new driver. Trade in the Cleveland 460 Launcher for a Taylor Made R11. Had a chance to hit it also .... amazing driver. I plan on keeping my Cleveland wedges however. I can't part with these, I love them so much.

*cough* ... close to $1400.00 for new weapons. Better stay on the wife's good side 💡. She's ok with it though, I'm just being reluctant to drop that much ...... again. I probably will come next summer. I'll hit the shops, internet and see who is willing to cut the best deal on these.

Now tossing up the idea of whether I need a stiff shaft, hitting my mates Ping felt so good except I kept hitting them from inside the heel, and I still hit it miles past my current driver.

Stavingo, I've been constantly about an 8--9 index for last 4 years. Don't know what you hit (if it's the same Ping driver) but you need to realise you gotta compare apples with apples.

I have a Taylormade R9 Superquad, upgraded from an Taylormade R7 425 Quad, originally fitted with a 'S' 60gm Fujikura shaft. Sure when I hit it good, it went, and a little further than the R7. Conversely my misses were also 'bigger'.

I bit the pride bullet and brought a 'M' 60gm Fujikura shaft. New technology to be able to do that in the first instance is a godzend like you wouldn't believe. Heck even 10 years ago, it was off to the pro shop to get it changed (with lots of intrepidation).

The results is I (try to) swing 'within myself' (most of the time, as I get quick when hitting good consistently), doing this has promoted a little draw, so 'loss of distance' is present but not significant. However, my misses are first cut or just into rough. Not WHERE they were...

Sacrifice distance for position.

It's not that the driver is bad or anything, I'm exploring the idea of a stiff shaft after hitting my mates driver. I can tell the regular flex shaft is definitely having an effect on my bad drives (slice which sways about 10 metres right) but the bad shots are normally only around 10-20 metres shorter of my normal straight drives, but the height I get on some of my drives also makes me lose distance and I know that 12 degrees of loft is way too much for me.

It's just frustrating to fix because I have to slightly slow down my swing speed in order to hit the ball straighter, which I don't mind but I won't be off single figures anytime soon if I can only hit my driver 200 metres

In other news I somehow shot 41 points today with two doubles and a wipe

Stavingo, I use a taylor made R11 9.0 driver closed face and stiff shaft, 3-PW irons are titleist AP2 stiff shafts, which made the decision to go to a driver with a stiff shaft, the problem I have with the stiff shafted driver is that you really have to smack the guts out of it to gain the respective distance you would expect from the purchase, as a stiff shaft can be costly, plus you also need to know if your driver head is suited to a stiff shaft which not all are, well they are but the results vary, my suggestion which I'm doing currently is try out some different drivers with both reg and stiff shafts, I'm finding that I'm getting better length, accuracy and more successful flight shaping out of the titleist 910D3 driver at 10.5 closed reg shaft, but I get so much better length out of the R11, the problem with that is consistancy, you can't get consistant length with a stiff shaft,

In saying, trial and choose wisely,

Well I'm getting fitted on Thursday and I'll probably talk to my golf coach for some advice to see what he thinks.
