Played 18 for the first time in a month yesterday. Shot an 85 with a couple of balls lost in the leaves  Hope to get at least 5 more full rounds in this year before it's too cold.

Lol don't complain about losing balls. I lost 4 balls in 4 holes and I played about 12 holes or so.

I was just happy to get back on the course. It was over a month or so since I last played, been busy and the weather was crap. Yesterday was perfect though. After a morning rain it warmed to 60 degrees and sunny with little to no wind. Practically had the course to myself. Not going to have too many more days like that before it gets cold. I hit wayward tee shots but managed to have par putts on a few holes. Didn't make a birdie but only had one birdie putt anyways lol. Felt great to be back swinging the clubs. 👍

Played nine holes yesterday after work. It was cold and windy but good enough for me since the sun was out. Again I pretty much had the course to myself. Did not do good lol. Shot a 53 due to losing balls in the leaves. Some people wouldn't count those lost balls but I do to keep an accurate handicap. I think next time out I will take my leaf blower and replace it with my 4 iron, which I never use lol.

Gotta practice for the weekend, our team for the Encourage Shield is on a small winning streak and we're versing probably the hardest club on Sunday.

Hit the course for the first time in a month or 2 last week. Great feeling when you step up to the first tee and smash the 3-Wood 250+ right down the middle first up.

Then I didn't hit one like it the rest of the round....oh well.

My putting was super rusty, that's what dips the most if I don't play semi-often. My mates still think it's super bizarre with my left/right switching, but it seems the most comfortable for me so I'm sticking with it.

Played nine holes today after work with a buddy. Shot a 40 with a couple of birdies. Drove the ball well but could not chip at all. Weather was great for late October - 65 degrees and no wind at all. Best of all there was no one out there so we could play at our own pace. I always like that because if I feel rushed when it's busy I don't play well lol.

Wow, our team played so boss on the weekend in Encourage Shield. We won against the toughest club in our division and we are on a 3 game winning streak.

Stavingo, I was just wondering what the Encourage Shield is. Obviously it's competitive golf but is it for colleges or competing country clubs or such? Sounds fun cause I miss my high school golf days lol. Never pursued a golf scholarship but I always wonder what would have been if I worked harder on my game when I was in my teens. Oh well lol.

Encourage Shield isn't college or a high school golf event. Just a team event with 5 players and a reserve selected by your club versus another club in your division and you have 5 rounds against other clubs. Oh it's for juniors only as well.

Currently we've won 3 games in a row now and if we keep it up we should win in our division.

Anyone played this year? I haven't had time to get out yet, I've been too busy so far this year myself so I haven't hit one ball. Hopefully tommorow I will be at the range and getting a bit of swing time in.

I've got a few things I won't to try out with my swing and it will be good to eventually get those clubs a swinging.

Yesterday I played my first round of 18 so far this year. Had some thunderstorms roll through right about tee off time but nothing major. Had a slight drizzle all day, just enough to get the grips wet. Ended up shooting an 80, 41 -39 with a couple of birdies. I started the back nine off with 7 straight 4s and had one 6 on my card.

Time has been my worst enemy this year .... I don't have much of it :grumpy:. I've hit the driving range, worked out the winter bugs, got my swing back into shape and tomorrow I am going to the Legends of Massillon for 18. We'll see how this goes. :nervous:

After 6 months since I took up the game, I got my first birdie yesterday. Was on a nice 355 yard par 4 with a dogleg to the right and the drive over a lake.

Congrats, 1st birdie is always a good step in the right direction.

Next is eagle... (although there is one eagle that counts as double brag rights)

U.S. Open 2012 Olympic Club San Francisco

How about the numbers 14 and 79 ? Do they mean anything ? They sure do. 14 year old Andy Zhang entered the U.S. Open in hopes of possibly making a name for himself in the golf world today. I think he succeeded. He managed to shoot a 79 - 9 shots over par .... impressive for a 14 year old. At one time he was tied with Bubba Watson, your Masters Champion for '12 ... impressive. It's unlikely we will see him make the Friday cut, but none the less, great job Andy. 👍

Nick Watney .... an Albatross on #17. He went from +3 to even par with just one stroke.

Who do you like this weekend ? Go Lefty ... Mickelson fan (+ 6 today)

"Projected" cut is at +7 for the U.S. Open.
Lefty ..... (Mickelson, hanging on by a stroke) :nervous:
Furyk and Woods, the only two players in the field who are under par. -1

Leaderboard at time of post ... subject to change.

Anyone have this "Optishot Golf Simulator?" I've only played golf a handful of times, but would like to improve and $400 sounds better than greens fees. My only concern is that an errant club swing will break the camera.. :scared:

^
Seriously, the best thing to do is take up a few lessons. The majority of golf courses have an on sight PGA Tour instructor. They can actually show you hands on what you may or may not be doing correctly. The Optishot cannot do this as well as an instructor. It's a nice tool, but hands on training is the best route to go.

I see. Thanks for the input, I'll see what happens :).

Good Luck in improving your golf game. 👍

Most instructors get around $40.00 per 1/2 hr. as opposed to spending $400. and not quite figuring out what your flaws may be. At that rate you can take up quite a few lessons and take advantage of improving your weaknesses in the game.

It will come, as with anything, practice, practice, practice. ;)

That's normally how it is! Thanks again, sounds like a plan.

A golf thread! Excellent...

I'm about a 7 or 8 cap now. Was a 4 at my best. Played only twice this year due to a finger injury in the spring - pretty serious - my wife's suspension bit off part of the tip of a finger on my left hand. Can still play though!

Shot 79 and 77 the two times out, and a 40 playing just 9 one day. 40 I think. We really didn't keep score, and barely made it off the back after arriving on "league day" we didnt know about.

Wilson Staff Irons, some old forgings about 20 years old now. Scotty Cameron putter (what else!!!) a pair of Oakleys and some Srixon Z-Stars and I'm good to go.

Had a job out of college doing promotional work on the PGA Tour for Michelob Beer... Been to 70+ PGA and Senior Tour Events.

Big fan of the Big Break on Golf Channel, and Feherty's show as well. Brilliant interviewer. He really is that funny too. I walked with his group as a scorer in the PGA. hampionship once. Great guy.

It seems like every single golfer knows every single other golfer in my experience . A guy who plays at ECU (not professionally, mind you) just happens to know Webb Simpson and Bubba Watson pretty well.

Only been out once so far this year and will be going again this weekend.

The one time I've been out we played the morning after a massive rainstorm and I was fairly happy with my 108. I lost 2 balls that I'm quite sure were well in bounds but you couldn't see your shots most of the time because they had stuck in the ground too far. I also stepped into a muddy rough without knowing and had mud over my ankle. Putting was very very off as I expected since I don't putt well at the best of times let alone when I hadn't been in a year.

That was a 6800 yard course though and the one Sunday is only 5800 and it has been sunny and hot all week so it should be good to play on. Hopefully a lot better score.

Shot a 44 yesterday at a course I don't get out to that much. A couple bad mis hits but it was a good round overall. Today I played at my usual course, had a really bad first 7 holes, birdied the 8th, parred the 9th, and finished with a 50 :(

I did a lot of duffing and too many 3-putts. And I did a lot of cursing . Oh well, it was still fun, and the birdie on the 8th hole was awesome. It's a long par 4, and usually you tee off from behind a big ditch, and it's a 400ish yard hole. Today they had the white tees at the spot in front of the ditch, where the forward tees usually are, and it's about 340ish (very downhill) to the green. I crushed my drive down the big hill, and put it about 55 yards out. Chipped on within 5 feet with my 60 degree wedge, and had an easy birdie putt 👍.

That was my birdie putt :D

Wow, everyone is starting to play golf again! In the meantime I'm off a 14 handicap and recently played at The Lakes golf course, where they hosted the Australian Open and man that is a damn long course

I once played a PGA tour course while it was still setup for them. I average mid 90s when I play a little more regularly and my god was it the most frustrating round of my life. I literally putt a ball off the green and into the water on one hole because the greens were so fast.
