I don't think video games are over priced at all. Especially new ones. Think about the hours of enjoyment you get out of it.

I know some guys who buy games and then don't play them for a year, or buy games and play them for twenty minutes and never finish. I guess for them it could seem expensive since they're wasting money. But I play two games. I will continue to play these two games until they are completed and then I will get another one, and so on.

I think they are a good value.

And anyone who thinks piracy will bring prices down has their head up their ass.

Heh, i refer to it as stockpiling for a rainy day:D

I have several game like that, but i always go back and play them when there is a lag in the current release schedule.

I used your game purchasing rule at one time, milefile. Then my short attention span took over...now I have tons of unfinished games laying around. :\

So would you mind telling me how the development of a game is plagued by piracy?
I can't believe you just asked that. Hello, a little common sense here?

When you buy a pirated game, the company that made it recieves exactly $0 (the person who made the copy isn't going to be sending money back to PD or whoever ). If you don't buy a pirated game, and instead buy a real one, the company makes around $50.

50 > 0

Companies need profit to keep making their products. If they don't get money, then they stop functioning.

Seriously, do you need anymore explaining than that?

:irked:

And like milefile said, games are not overpriced by any means. I've had GT3 for a year and a half now... it's been my only PS2 game, yet it has kept me busy and excited every second I turn on my PS2. $50 is not too much for most games.

Yup, when you consider that Atari 2600 games cost $50 in the early eighties, $50 for a PS2 game (that has a much larger development crew and a longer development cycle) isn't unreasonable.

At least find a decent rationalization....

okay I am going to explain to everyone why I buy pirate games. The reason is............................I can't be bothered to wait for the game to come to these shores, thats right it bloody takes forever and sometimes not even coming out at all (xenogears) I will buy these games original when they do come out over here people and once again if 25% of this country alone was using piracy its not making a serious dent in the market .Games companies usually take years to make a big game like gran turismo or metal gear solid 2. Its not like they are making pong

With all sincerity, I don't know whether to cry or laugh...

Did you ever consider the fact that it's morally wrong to steal?

One word Dreamcast!!!!!! this was one of the main reasons of it's downfall..That and microshaft!!!

That's the difference between you and me (though I've never stolen in my life before).

Let me ask you this: What's a man without morals? What if no one had a half-decent grasp of morals and ethics?

its not to say I lack morals though theivery is my weakest moral and its not like I look to mug people or rob a bank and from my point of view I don't think I am stealing because I am still getting the games as originals as soon as they come out

You've never stolen in your life before? Not even when you were very little? (Sorry that's a little OT)

No. I might've forgotten to return a pencil or something like that, but I've never "stolen" on purpose.

It's d00d, you dumbface.

Well you gotta have a balance of people, horrible ugly scummy theifs (Asher) and people of upstanding moral character (Err Sage, I think).

I still kinda take his side though.

One example.

There was a killer game that I heard of called Xenogears, it was in all the magazines and it even had a release date for UK release. But for some dumb reason they axed the European version. So I had 2 options; 1) To look around for an imported copy 2) Go and find an illegal pirate copy.

So I trapse around various gameshops in London and ask for a copy of Xenogears. This was unsucesfull, because almost every shop I went in, they just said "whats that?" or "That will be £80 please". So after that waste of time I went out and bought a pirate copy.

I still would like to buy a legitimate copy, because now I could afford to pay that much, but I haven't seen it since.

BTW Xenogears is one of the best games on the PSX IMHO, or at least one of the best RPG's anyway.

So i'd rather have a copy instead of miss out because Sony are too dumb to bring out a game in this teritory.

Don't mind Keeno, he is at that delicate age.

Wow. Never intentionally stole anything? Well, I've never done that either...it's always been accidental... Nah, I'm just kidding, i believe you. I guess you're going to heaven or something then. ;)

No, he's just going to live his life with a cleaner conscience and a greater idea of his self worth than some of us; that's all.
From Mista Y's post:

Did the thought ever cross your mind that perhaps Sony decided not to release the Xenogears game in the UK because the profit margin was too small? That's usually the reason why companies decide not to do something. Might that be connected to... piracy?

Assuming you actually do that. How many games do you have that you still play in pirate version? Stealing is still stealing, whether you can see the person face-to-face or not. If you want the privelege of having a game before it is released natively, then you need to pay for an imported copy of it. If nothing else, that will encourage importers to bring more games over, and seeing better response on imports will encourage companies to distribute native versions to a wider market more quickly. Honestly, it doesn't take that much effort to think past the end of your own nose.

You are accusing youth_cycler of being self-righteous? At least he has a RIGHT to be! unlike you, who has cooked up this thin rationalization about your own immoral actions.

💡

By profit margin, do you mean the amount of money that they would make by selling that particular title?

As far as I know, it was quite a popular game in America, Sony (Actually I think it's published by Square/EA) were just afraid that it wouldn't sell well because it wasn't a big brand name game (Like final fantasy, or Gran turismo), not because people would buy it on pirate. Final Fantasy 7 is a simmilar type game to Xenogears but it got more publicity and advertising and it sold very well because of this.

Okay in answer to your question its only been 2 games as of late. and let me tell you why I am going for piracy instead of imports. Right first of all most import games for the ps2 are right out there in prices ranging between £50 and £80 quid and most the time they don't stock a decent variety in import games cause they are unsure if its worth getting usually they would go for the big titles such as soul calibre 2 and metal gear solid 2. Now second thing modification as it stands my console has a neo 2.2 allowing me to play pirate cd burned ps2 games nothing more nothing less. If however I wanted to play import games I would have to get a messiah chip, that chip is hard to come by since sony found out about it and band it from coming to the uk thus making it extremely difficult to find and extremely expensive to purchase and install. The last time I checked around my "suppliers" they could do it for £115 quid so that plus £80 quids worth of game is frankly too expensive I ain't Richie Rich for god sake. Finally I am a theif (on occasion) wheither you like it or not.

if he steals that is his buisness and i do not mean to sound mean but you need to stay out of keeno buissness and leave him alone even though you are a gt forum superviser person does not mean you can critisize him he can talk abought any thing cant he that is how he got so many people to read his threads and is getting so many posts techinicaly you are getting a lot of people on this site and that benifits you so you are getting a lot of visitors to this site, i am new to this site and i post stuff on and people do not like it i am not very popular at this site but keeno is so just let him do what he does and leave him alone please

Well, i'd have to say that it's keeno's fault for making a thread that say's Piracy I love it.

This is stupid because.
A) It's against the rules of the site to talk about illegal activities
B)It's like making a thread that says Beating people up and taking their money, I love it!

Shut up. When Keeno posts his business on a public forum it becomes everybody's business, moderator or not, just as your assinine defense of theft became my business.
