This is an utter spam of a post but unless anyone objects/it's too much trouble could you please put the pics of the c9 and r89 in this thread? my 56k modem would take about 2 hours to load all the pics in Skunkwerx's post but i really need to see those two cars :) please?

Ok here they are but they will go when all of Skunkwerx's pics in that other thread go. I'll show you five of the best imo including the C9 and R89.

ta speedy. Interesting view on McLaren, I still think that technically the cars Bruce McLaren built and raced are more historically important in terms of motorsport. You're probably right about it not being rememberred though - how many of our generation even know what can am means?

News of these Group C cars is such music to my ears! They have a special place in my heart cos it reminds me of Playing Scalectrix with my brother :) I had a c9 and a 787B and my brother had the r89c and the Silk Cut Jag.

Live, me and you on the Nurb, 10 laps. I got the CLK-GTR. Your car? GT4 online might be the most active online game made this gen. I thought the cars would have back fire, no word on this.

I'm impressed Mercedes allowed the CLK-GTR in there in race trim, given what happened at Le Mans to the '99 CLR.

Does anyone know what happened to the CLRs that flipped at Le Mans? I seem to vaguely recall they may have been destroyed and buried somewhere, but readily concede that's unlikely to be true.

I really hope that the road going McLaren F1 is in the game. If the GT version is in, I don't see why the road going version will not be.

Unless someone can explain why this could happen.

I'd rather have McLaren and Porsche than Ferrari and Lambourghini.

But if there are 500-800 cars, I'm sure I'll find one or two that I'd like.;) :)

I'm more than aware of the aerodynamic issues that lead to the cars flipping - there's a fantasic article here on the problem that affected this, and quite a few other LM-GTP cars.

What I was referring to was the fate of the cars after Le Mans. I assume given what happened that Mercedes aren't touring around showing these things off, and I doubt they're sitting in a museum somewhere. I was just wondering what happened to the cars once Mercedes got them back to the factory.

Just got back from Day 2. I'm going to read the questions now and answer them as best as I can (in order received).

Soman - Checked out FSW, graphics were really crisp and detailed (very unlike the usual "hazy" X-box graphics). The gameplay was way more slow and methodical than I'm used to, but the people playing looked to enjoying the game.

cubits - The TCS and ACS symbols didn't go off on my drive, but it was to be expected because it is a Shelby after all...

MasterGT - I didn't drive San Marco, I only watched the replay. It looked great, but I can't really recall and standout details. I'll check again tomorrow. The people there didn't give out any information about any track counts or car counts (I'm not even sure they knew anyway). As for the Taiko game, it's a blast, but it's no more different than the Japanese version save for the English translation. Fun game solo. Great game with two players and a ton of fun at parties.

I'll get to the rest after a bit of dinner...

Heh - got mobbed at the sports bar where I was trying to meet some cousins because the Lakers won today...

Anyway, back to the questions at hand.

Lamborace - I've got one photo that I made myself of my friend's VW R32. I tried to make another on of a WRX STi (type GC), but it froze up before I could print. I'll get a couple more and scan them and post them.

cobragt - The graphics aren't any different than GT4P's on the surface. They're still good, and honestly IMHO, there aren't any racing games out there that look significantly better. I noticed the G-meter, but didn't really put 2 and 2 together about it. I played Enthusia and that one had a G-meter in it as well, but it had a 4-way meter. And as for the N'Ring...you can race a full set of 6 on it. It seems the best way to win those is to drive really conservatively - just wait for the others to make mistakes.

I also logged a bunch of time with the photo mode and I liked it a lot. Printing takes forever and a day (a few minutes per print), but the quality is phenomenal. The car and the camera have specific places where you place them, so you don't have complete freedom, but where you can place items are alway picturesque anyway. The camera has full range mobility - pan left or right, tilt up and down, raise the camera up or down or dolly the cam left or right. But probably my favorite aspect of the options is ability to change the focal length and aperture of the shot - just like real photos. I just hope that they add the ability to turn the wheels or do something to simulate car motion.

Jizzmirk, regarding the Photo Mode, all the photos thus far seem to show the car in a stationary position... do you know if its possible to make a photo of a car in mid-drift (tail going out, with the wheels in opposite lock)?

Apparently, PM will allow printing of pictures from normal-res replays, not just the 16 special locales. This leads me to believe that many of the promotional pictures we have seen, over the past year or so, may have been produced by this Photo Mode.

One of the night pictures, of Shibuya, showed light streaks, possibly from passing vehicles, and I think the Maxi/Piazza picture showed spinning wheels. So movements effects, including blurring might be available.

We also get to choose different "films", so we "might" be able to pick a slow one. No info yet.

It's an interesting feature. I wonder how often we'll use it.

Cheers,

MasterGT

Hi,

jizzmirk, did you notice any improvement of the AI? It's one thing I've noticed that nonone has said much if anything at all about. Hopefully the ai will be decent as I wont be able to play GT4 online.

there's an ariticle on IGN (or possibly gamespot) where they spoke to KY about the photo mode and yes, you can take shots from replays, and yes, you can add motion blur effects as well as all sorts of lighting and filters :)

From the photo mode, the Shibuya locale has the tail light and head light blurs baked into the scene. Meaning that you just place your car in the scene somewhere and the light blurs are stationary objects in the foreground and background.

As for the AI, I tried running against them on the Ring and they all blew me away (I still don't know the course). But I did see the car in-front of me go off course (on his own) once. What I've noticed in several races is that the there is a large diversity in the AI skill - meaning that the racing pack sometimes is split. I've seen more than a few races where the lead AI car is smoking the main racing pack. I haven't been able to maintain leads in the Ring and in Hong Kong, but I've won at Fuji and Tsukuba. I'll give another go today and try some pack racing and trying to flat out beat everybody.

BTW, 8400 - I sent you a PM, check it out.

You got to be kidding me... so the Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR will be in GT4? I say it's about time. I got a little sick of pretending my DTM Mercedes in GT3 was the CLK-GTR. This car was initially supposed to be a car for GT2, but since the licensing wasn't done in time, it didn't make it. Great shame. I think if GT2 had a few more GTPs, That Sauber from the late 1980s would be a great race car to take to the track. As far as that 788hp Nissan on the last page goes, it would be nice to race that bad boy on whatever tracks PD is offering for GT4. Since it's an older car, its horsepower is great for the track, but may be a little too quick and not have so much of a good top speed. For example, I heard of (boy, if PD got Porsche, this car would have been KILLER) the 1000-1100 horsepower Porsche 917s that did 200 mph even with old aerodynamics. I'm sure the car will still perform as maybe a BMW M1 (also rated at more than 1000 hp). But in terms of historically significant Japanese cars, PD did good bringing in the loud and raspy Mazda 787B from 1991. So even though horsepower is good, making it work is also as important. I think this car would be a little faster than the GT-One if it had just one more gear.

Oops, jizzmirk, you kinda misunderstood what i said.

ABS has been compulsary in every GT game until GT4, where it will be optional. That finally means we can lock up into corners, which will making passing risky/interesting.

Might only apply to the wheel controller though...

Ehm, I'll take you up on that :) Do you realise how spectacularly you will lose against the pescarolo or BMW LMR?

Dude,you are talking about The GT-One here.As far as i'm concerned nothing beats it,except an F1 car.:D
I hope to god they put in Le Mans in the game.If they can cram the Ring in there they can definetly put in Le Mans aswell.

Yep if the ring makes it in then the shorter LeMans circuit is certainly possible but my house can only be used in a bet by me Eagle lol.

I got one more question jiz. I'm sure you have seen the new trailer of gt4. Now when I saw it, I was kind of, this can't be on the ps2, you know? Did the gt4 build you played look exactly like the trailer? I wouldn't mind knowing because the trailer blew my pants off lol. Also, I have noticed the nice car reflections in the vids and pics, how do the reflections on the car look first hand and how does Forza compare to gt4?

I think the car reflections are being a bit overdone to be honest, someone else pointed out cars don't look like mirrors on a race track, and that's damn right - some reflection is good but I can't say I've seen any on F1 or LM cars at the start of a race of the level we've seen in some GT clips.

You know, some of the trailer (and parts of the GT4P intro) looked VERY close to the actual gameplay - but somehow fell just a little short. I can't really explain it. Maybe it was the blur and camera motion.
