I would hope majority of core features are free including all share functions as well as free online gaming with all the cross-game chat functions. I think they may also give some free game streaming services such as time limited game try outs as standard and games you might own on PS3 when they get that service running. It will be a big disappointment if most of these features are not free.

Of course, everyone wants everything free.... No one will disagree :)

As someone may have mentioned earlier, allowing for most if not all of these features to be free would be the best way to go for Sony. As for the streaming services, Sony can put time restrictions for the free users, and allow for unlimited streaming for PS+ members.

2Ghz is low for me (I am a PC gamer with the exception of playing GT5). Also, AMD most likely will not be on a 20nm process seeing as they're still working on 28. I think it still stands that if they used an Intel CPU, they could lower the TDP a lot more since Intel makes CPUs that have better performance and lower power draw
Will be better than 1.6GHz at least if rumour is true that it is going up to 2GHz. AMD will use 20nm and then 14nm for PS4 die shrinks very soon, 2014 and 2015 hopefully. Depends on foundry they will be using really and cost. It should be very quick to get a PS4 to 14nm die shrink but after 2015 or 2016 14nm PS4, I think it will be a good few years before another reduction is made. Potentially half the power consumption in two years which I think Sony will be happy with and consumers too. That will make it potentially take less power than the original PS3 slim did gaming at less than 100W.

Going with AMD CPU is more beneficial for Sony due to being able to do the unified memory thing and also the very high levels of integration and also cost wise it will be much cheaper than going with Intel and probably power consumption will be lower too. Memory bandwidth is weakness in current desktop AMD CPUs compared to Intel but that has been eradicated by the unified GDDR5 memory and favours the PS4 by a big margin over an Intel desktop system.

Not all PS4 cloud features will be available on launch day

PS4 Daily
Features available at launch:

-“Share button” — instantly share your gameplay feed with friends.

-Twitter/Facebook integration

-All games will be available digitally

-PlayStation Vita cross play is supported (games may or may not ship with it)

-Trophy system will be available on day one

-Streaming media (Hulu, Netflx)

What may not be available day one:

-Streaming of PS1, PS2 and PS3 games might be limited since older games need to be prepared for the service

-Not all “Share” features might be online.

-Features such as other players guiding someone through the game or taking over the controls.

-Playing PS4 games remotely on the PlayStation Vita.

I'm pretty annoyed that they are even going to force PSX games to be played through streaming.

I don't feel all that confident that they will have every game available. There have been some really crappy legacy games on PSN. Yet, no GT1-GT4, SONY's biggest franchise. People will be expecting the full catalog on day one because the PS4 launch library will be anemic.

This will be regarding PS4 games.

Thats why I try to wait at least a year before buying a new console. Some of the advertised features are not even going to be available for some time. Basically unfinished at launch which is not good. Also not a good sign of next gen console gaming. Seems to continue the path of "Release now" patch and finish later.

Should they delay the launch for unimportant features that could be a few days off? I see and have no problem with this. I want the system for its main features like playing PS4 games.

You and I both know it wont be just "a few days off". :sly:
At least they gave us a heads up that it is going to happen. 👍

I don't know why anyone is surprised, the way the Gaikai spokesperson worded his pitch at the event it was clear the service wasn't going to be fully ready to go on day 1.

I do agree it's pretty ridiculous that they're not even hardware emulating PS1, that's a piece of cake. I'm not paying to stream some games when I've got them on disc. I bought a few PS1 classics from the store to support Sony and so I could play them in comfort, in future I guess i'll stick to emulating them on my PC and PSP.

Hopefully they do the hardware emulating regarding PS1 and maybe even PS2 too. It will interesting to see CD situation if it is true or not but PSN PSone Classics should be made to work at the very least.

welcome to the club. i think im gonna buy a cheap gaming pc just for emulation.

My 2.5GHz Thinkpad Laptop can work emulation of PS1 with no issues, you mightnt even need a gaming PC!

Of course you don't. You can run PS1 emulators (and Nintendo 64 emulators, for that amtter) on basically anything that was released in the last five to ten years. Even on low-end, crappy, old office PCs they're using in public schools.

You can run them on an android phone, including my Xperia play.

I would hope so but they have been pretty clear in what they've said so far, no backwards compatibility at all. Given that it would be a software emulator though they could change their minds and add it in an update. I hope so, streaming a PS1 game is pretty stupid.

I had to buy a ps2 just to be able to collect gt3 and 4 emulation would solve limited shelf space.

I have a xbox360, ps3, ps2 and a dvd player on 1 tv.

Would be good to free space.

Edit: especially since im getting the ps4 as well and since no backwards compatibility will exist at launch thats alot of hardware to juggle.

A one-box-plays-all solution is surely what every gamer would like. It's just so much easier. Well except that one guy who kept posting over and over again that he didn't want BC.

He must trade his hardware and games alot.

I like to keep mine.

I only heard that regarding PS3 and that emulation plans will be revealed later from what I remember. I think it could be a big thing at E3 if they do announce PS1 & PS2 backward compatibility. Should have enough hardware power now for PS2 emulation.

I once had like PS3, PS2, SNES, Wii, Xbox 360, PC and like a Sky HD box connected to my TV monitor . Got it much simpler now with just PS3, PC and Sky HD Box.

Lol but it gets a bit much once you go another gen im planning on getting the nextbox too.

Sorry what I meant was they said PS1 and PS2 discs won't work, they haven't finalised software emulation of downloaded titles.

Yep. I think it is good to either relegate old consoles to another TV or some family member or put away in storage. I plan to probably get a PS4, Wii U and maybe a slimmer PS3. Probably need to get TV with more HDMI ports or get a switcher thing but I will deal with that problem when I do get hold of them consoles which will be a while yet.

That is IGN's assumption of what will work. Discs of PS1 and PS2 games have not been ruled out as far as I know.

See unlike my brother I don't trade games or my consoles. If the xbox 720 is backwards compatible then ill trade my 360 if I find games I like I will keep them thats why I have 50 + games on my ps3.

It is highly unlikely the next Xbox can play 360 games if it does indeed use an AMD CPU. I only will sell my game consoles if I am upgrading to say a newer model and I also keep the games I buy too. One thing good about next consoles should be less frustrations that people will probably less likely go back to older console like say PS3 if you have PS4 later in its life cycle.
