It is highly unlikely the next Xbox can play 360 games if it does indeed use an AMD CPU. I only will sell my game consoles if I am upgrading to say a newer model and I also keep the games I buy too. One thing good about next consoles should be less frustrations that people will probably less likely go back to older console like say PS3 if you have PS4 later in its life cycle.

Well looks like ill be moving consoles to other tvs I love my games collection and play them regularly.

Hopefully you can replace your PS2 and DVD player with just PS4 so less need to move consoles about. I am tempted to bring my SNES console back soon, maybe when PS4 comes out  as I doubt I will get one at launch but will treat myself to a retro console launch by playing the real next-gen games ;).

I would hope so but they have been pretty clear in what they've said so far, no backwards compatibility at all. Given that it would be a software emulator though they could change their minds and add it in an update. I hope so, streaming a PS1 game is pretty stupid.

I hope the back catalogue streaming covers all PS consoles. I don't have many PSone games on disc and a handful on PS2 still left. But if part of my Plus subscription or a little on top means I could pull up a large portion of the library of PSone/PS2 classics and start playing them instantly would be just awesome.

Why would it be highly unlikely?? The X360 uses a Xenos GPU developed by AMD and the CPU was designed by IBM but manufactured by AMD. The PS4 BC with PS3 games is what is in question due to the complexity of CELL. It might be why Sony has Gaikai now, hut we will see. If either console does BC it is more likely to be MS next xbox.

Do we have any confirmed info that all PS4 games will be 1080p ?

Kill Zone was the best looking game and yet I'll risk saying it looked worse than Beyond Two Souls which looks unbelievable - so was Kill Zone in 1080p or in 720p ? One thing for the KZ though - it wasn't pre-rendered graphics or whole game-play - guys who were playing it next day in some TV show proved that it was in game.

And one side comment to original thread creator - I hope you know who Mr. Wacław Sierpiński was ?...

It still isn't x86, and in fact isn't that far removed from CELL in design. The most we would probably see are individual games like we did original XBox titles.

PS4 pretty much confirmed to allow used games.

Also this is rather interesting. PS4 games are actually supposed to be cheaper than PS3 games.

U.S. department of labor’s inflation calculator clarified $60 games in 2006 would round up to $68.54 as in 2013. Considering if the PS4 happen to be around for the next 5 or 6 years price would keep rising up. Meaning at this point a $60 price for games in 2013 is really cheap.

That's an old interview. There have been a couple since from various other Sony executives that have been a lot more... ambiguous. Now it looks like it will allow used games, but publishers will be given the option to disallow them.

I don't like his region-locked answer. Regionless games has been a massive success for little known developers, and going to a more arcane system like Nintendo, [I mean seriously, region lock games and the controller? This isn't 1983 any more.] is going to spell trouble with sales world wide.

What are we comparing if I may ask? They are two very different games. It is full 1080p.

Um yeah, Beyond is all about close up facial details, Killzone clearly isn't with it's large environments and heavy action. I don't play FPS but it looked pretty good to me, assuming it wasn't a bullclip.

I don't think they have confirmed all games will be 1080p though, no. I should hope most of them are though.

Killzone 2 & 3 were both in 720p & in my opinion, still look great. To my knowledge, none of the PS4 games or demos shown have been officially confirmed to be in 1080p. Speculation has the PS4 being able to render games at 1080p 30fps &/or 1080p 60fps, but depends on the game & dev. No official word from Sony if all games will be rendered in 1080p.

I can't imagine any of the PS3 games are in actual 1080p. Try going and playing PC games that are really at 1080p and then going back to any game on a console. It will make your eyes hurt trying to focus for the first few minutes. I couldn't believe the difference in GT5 after playing high res games. It looked awful as far as resolution goes and so did pretty much any other game I tried.

I'm not trying to start a PC vs console thing, but it really does show how low resolution all the console games are. I don't know how they get by claiming 1080p on any of them because they obviously are not.

I do imagine though that PS4 should have most of the games in 1080p. I can't see them trying to go low resolution anymore with all of the HD televisions in people's homes now.

So what about ports? Did they say anything about what kind of or how many ports will be on the console? USB 3.0? AV Multi-Out? Etc.
It'd be heartbreaking for my brother if they don't support AV Multi-Out or whatever the cord with the Red/White/Yellow is called, He still plays on a CRT

That's a good question. I read that ps4 will support USB 3.0 but I'm not sure whether that was confirmed or speculation. As for scart output, I'd imagine that they will still support it as not everybody has an HDTV and they won't want to limit their install base.

Sony played this well IMO.

GT6 and the actual box are in reserve to boost the hype again. The hype wouldn't have got that much bigger if they showed them now but if they show them when interest is going down then it could be a great asset.

If Drive club was shown on Feb 20th, I believe it means Sony already knows that GT6 is not going to be ready anytime soon (who would be surprised anyways?) and they had to show a racer for their Ps4.

I still don't understand why Sony doesn't push Pd to release their GT games quicker. Over a year since the vita got released and not a decent racer on it. 4 years (or 3?)to get GT5 on the PS3.
Ubisoft has 400 people working on Assassin's creed. They push one out every year which sells millions of copies.
Why won't Sony/PD do the same?

Part of me wants drive club to be a massive success (though I doubt it) just so Pd realizes they need to get things done faster if they don't want their number one spot taken.

Because companies that release a "new" game for their franchise every year, sucks? Same kind of companies that put little to no effort into their games, and who loves DLC season pass.

Whipeout HD has native 1080P, though at times it scales it back to 720.

He was asking about Killzone Shadow Fall. There is a Youtube video in full 1080p and it looks spectacular. Sacred 2 is full 1080p on PS3, but I wasn't referring to PS3.

Nobody told you that there should be a GT every year. but 4 years to do a game that popular is a waste of a good business opportunity and Sony knows it since they have Drive club to fill the void. All I was trying to say is that PD could beef up their ranks and they might be able to deliver a game every other year or so.

Not all but the majority yes.

I can't wait to see what this thing looks like.
I'm hoping for something along the lines of the Xbox 360 and PS3 Slim combined. The bulky "powerful" look of the Xbox would go great with PS3's smooth curves. 👍

The 360 looks like a bottle of Vaseline Intensive Care lotion without the spout.

Lol, I'll give you that. Only when looked at from the front and when vertical, though.
I don't know. It's just that when I look at the 360, it just looks powerful. The PS3, especially the SuperSlim, looks alot more "delicate".

Maybe that's just me.

Nvidia Announces PhysX and APEX Support for PS4

NVIDIA
Game designers use PhysX and APEX technologies for collision detection and simulation of rigid bodies, clothing, fluids, particle systems and more across a wide range of platforms, including desktop PCs, game consoles, and mobile and handheld devices.

Taking PhysX technology content creation to the next level, Nvidia APEX technology lets artists create intricate physics-enabled environments. They can expand the quantity and visual quality of destructible objects; make smoke and other particle-based fluids integral to game play; and create life-like clothing that interacts with the character's body to achieve more realism in their games.

Great news 👍
So, Physx is basically collision detection and Apex is fluids/animations, right?
