The camera thing was a good move, the article goes on about how it won't be supported i.e probably going to die, but I really couldn't care less, I don't want motion controls and if it makes the price that cheap then I am all for the decision. It means that there is more chance that I can get my PS4 this year too.

However that said, I do expect there to be a SKU including it, being made available at some stage in the future .

I don't want them either but if it does fail and fade into obscurity it will obviously cost Sony money in the long run.

Oh and do you mean SKU? :p

This is what is supposed to be in every PS4 box, it's nice to have the HDMI cable with it.

That is a very well bundled package. MUCH better than when the PS3 launched. The PS3 had no headset and no hd cables. Terrible launch for Sony with PS3. Just terrible.

I was going to post that yesterday but I was sure everyone knew that by now. Smart marketing decision by Sony or they would have lost another generation of gaming especially now that you have to pay to play online. If they had launched the PS4 at $500.00 AND charged to play online, it would have been a massacre for Sony. Looks like they learned their lesson from this generation. Very smart move. 👍

How would it, the consoles would have been even in that case. It would have all come down to the games (or loyalty).

As opposed to my 360 which came without a hard drive, no HDMI port at all, no wi-fi, a wired controller, no headset... I don't think it even came with a memory card. Yeah, the PS3's launch was just the worst, wasn't it?

If I have to roll my eyes this hard again I'm sending you the optician's bill.

How on earth did you miss the proposed mandatory 24-hourly check-in, fees to play second hand games, mandatory Kinect and all those other smart marketing moves Microsoft made before they realised that had they actually gone ahead with their proposals they would have "lost" this generation before it even started? But yeah, I'm glad I'm not getting a camera with my console. If I were to suffer the requisite blow to the head to get me to buy a One I'd only turn the Kinect off anyway.

Yep, I'm pretty sure I just severed my optic nerves so expect that bill in the post.

And...this was supposed to be the 500$ PS4 package that got replaced by the package that I mentioned above.
PS4-Knack-Bundle.jpg

I wondered what the $40 discrepancy would have been and now I can see, Knack. Still begs the question why they wouldn't sell that bundle as well.

There is one bundle that I wouldn't mind having. PS4 + Killzone Shadow Fall + Eye + 3months of PS Plus = 499Euros, give it to me Sony. :sly:

Haha thanks for the correction ! :)

In regards to other posts, don't understand how PS3 "lost" this gen when it has outsold Xbox360 worldwide ?.

It's available on amazon as far as I know.

EDIT: There's a knack bundle but it has no camera.

The camera alone does only cost 60$. I wonder just as you do why there's no bundle with camera for 450/460$ or 500$ with game. Maybe later...

Another thing I really wonder about is if the DS4 will be just as good or even better than a "real" PS Move controller.

A PS4 with camera costs 460$, still cheaper than a X1.

The only problem could be that the software support will be smaller. But in my eyes it's not even needed that every damn game has some half-baked move, or in X1s case a kinect, support.

Sony "sacrificed" the camera? That's a nice spin on it. They took out the camera so they could save money.

I'll be getting a camera, mainly for online streaming, and DS4 tracking as the controller is still set up for it. It's just not gonna be support right from the off, but will still get the odd updates.

@ Omnis

They took it out so they could beat MS on the console price.

Sony still beats MS price even with the camera, and even maybe a game bundle.

The 360 didn't come with a headset or HD cables either, you had to buy a more expensive SKU to get it. With PS3 it already had too much stuff for the core console alone and couldn't take an even bigger hit to include things like that. What was terrible was buying the Xbox 360 core system. With PS3 you could use PS2 HD cables like I did.

Mine came with it, although it was so long ago that I cant recall if it was more expensive or not. I dont think it was.

If you got it in 2005-6, then it was the more expensive Premium SKU..or the Pro SKU..not sure. The 360 has had so many this generation, it's a little ridiculous.

I'm deadly sure SONY are expecting more sales, at a lower price, equalling more profit.

Having a "starters kit" (headset, HDMI cable, etc.) wouldn't hurt either :p.

He is way more interesting to listen to than Bill Gates and John Carmack when it comes to listening to nerds. Maybe because he speaks and sounds like a Robot. Steve Jobs sounds too normal nerd where the other two guys I mention sound uber nerd. Cerny is robotic nerd and that's too cool.

After watching the entire Video I can see why Microsoft went with DDR3. Also Ken Kutaragi's departure was the best thing that could happen for Sony's future.

It was a pretty good in depth presentation. I even learned a lot even after being a Sony PS fan since 1995 when I got PS1 on my 17th birthday.

That assumes that the PS4 will be sold at a profit, and given the past for both MS and Sony that is highly unlikely.

Market share and cash flow will be Sony's goals with the PS4 for at least the first year, same with MS. They will both sell at a loss to establish market share, with cash flow keeping the divisions running while profit will come from software and online charges at first.

It's to do with the project management triangle, cost, time and scope.

Translated:

"It's considerably easier to develop on PS4, so the likelihood is that you're going to get better quality games on PS4."

I interpreted it from that picture as with PS4 they have gone back to first corner of traingle giving idea of a cycle which PS1 started (Think though PS4 onwards it will be different). Triangle being also Playstation relevant due to being a controller button. Seems like good choice of words to sum it up to me on current situation.
