Why does Sony always have to do this? Why can't they just buy Oculus Rift, pump money into an already promising development with people that actually think outside the box?

They always have to go for the proprietary measure. "VHS? WE CAN DO BETTER. SD card? CHECK OUT THESE SWEET EXPENSIVE ONES THAT ONLY WORK ON OUR STUFF!"
The list just goes on and on.

They would help out the gaming world a lot more if they would just work with other companies more. I hate this paradigm so much.

Why can't they just buy Oculus Rift

Because Sony have been working on VR headsets well before Oculus Rift was ever heard of, what would be the point of spending all those years and all that money just to spend even more money on somebody else's unreleased product, when you already have working versions of your own?

There's also nothing to say that Oculus Rift won't have any PS4 support either, not yet anyway.

Exactly for the same reasons I gave. If Sony truly had a good system going, the industry would've been talking about it. Sony's shelved way bigger projects than this, only for the concepts to end up never seeing the light of day. I just wish they would try to collaborate for once, it would benefit everyone. And no, in this case competition isn't a good thing since Oculus VR doesn't have nearly the capacity Sony does.

They claim to be all about indies on software, but they'll never change their tune when it comes to hardware, which I really think is one of their biggest weaknesses.

Maybe it comes from trying to work with Nintendo way back when and it fell apart.

Look at what happen with the "move" thing. It was just a desperate copy mashup of the Wiimote and Kinect. They started out great with the Eyetoy but never pushed it because no one else was doing it. Not enough initiative.

I'm going to preorder 2 games for the PS4. But I'm torn between Driveclub and NFS: Rivals.

What would you guys go for? I'm leaning toward NFS at the moment.

I don't see DriveClub releasing a new game EVERY year. The same cannot be said about NFS.

Wardez, SONY had a Move demo at an E3 on PS2. Nintendo picked up SONY's scraps and turned it into gold. (And now there is the Wii 2)

Kids these days, jeez!

Damn, the amount of hours me and my friends used to sink into the PS2 with this game series, and on the good old multitap. Those days were gaming nirvana.

Instant buy for me, and a significant addition to the PS4's game list in my opinion, I think a lot of people will be excited to see this franchise come back. I wouldn't mind reliving those PS2 days.

Rime does look great. That is the only game so far that I'm excited for on PS4.

Are you joking? You must be joking!

Oh ****, I forgot to hide my opinion :scared:

Most of the indie games have better conclusions as apposed to some AAA games and I usually get more out of endings. Look at LIMBO, while the game had no text or voice overs, it ultimately communicated a message far better than some games that have taken years to create. I also tend to get more out of artistic approaches in games generally more exaggerated colors, and less shading/shaders give me more of a comforting feeling, as something I can just kick back and just enjoy. Rime is a stunning looking game, as Flower, Journey were. I don't really care about the AAA lineup of the PS4 much. I mean Kill Zone looks amazing, and will probably be awesome for online, and Infamous will be fun for it's antics, but other that, I don't really care about those games.

Like the PS3, the creative, and 'experimental' games were what kept me coming back.

Edit: Just watched that Rime trailer again and it left a huge smile on my face.

I just saw Rime for the first time. It looks really interesting. From what I saw it looks half Journey and half ICO which is Definitely a game I will play. I agree though. I'm excited for Killzone and a few other but I wouldn't be surprised if I spent more than a hundred bucks on indies the first couple months. Witness looks good, Something New 'N Tasty can't come quick enough and I know I'm forgetting a few on top of those.

Edit: just saw Ddrizle made the same Rime comparison.:D

I agree with PhillKillv2 that the games i most enjoyed on the PS3 were indie titles. So called AAA titles seem to offer nothing new but slightly increased graphical umff, if your a fan if the franchise then that's fine but I like to try different things.

I only watch remakes of films or sequels for the updated special effects and geeky nods to the original film, but its very rare to find one that adds to the story and improves upon it, it's the same with games. The only exception to the rule is if further films or games are needed and they carry forward the main story arc in a good way and not let the game take over. For example MGS the story arcs are added upon and expand the gaming universe but each game reinvents the game mechanics but keeps its core in tact. Killzone moved its story along but couldn't quite reinvent game mechanics because its stuck trying to reinvent the FPS-wheel and what they've brought to the table this time doesn't add enough to make me feel I haven't seen it before.

Now don't get me wrong this is my opinion and its the same on all platforms and I love franchises that don't add much to the mix for example Zelda is a poor choice for innovation in story and level design evolution but it does shake up the mechanics and add something that makes me come back game after game to play.

To me indie titles are offering new takes and spins on old games and inject a bit of gaming gold back in to what is in my opinion a plethora of crud and stale ideas.

That's very true but I would rather spend £43.99 on NFS and get Driveclub for free thru PS+ which costs less than the game on Amazon.

Rime reminds me of both ICO and Journey in many ways.

I don't know why but I get the feeling that this is what Naughty Dog have been working on.

When the girl climbs across the cliffs sideways the animations look very similar to Uncharted's. Around 0:34

Is it possible to get it in time of PS4 release???
"Only just after it leaked out, the folks at HDMI Licensing are announcing HDMI 2.0 officially. Arriving just in time for the wide rollout of a new generation of Ultra HDTVs, it adds a few key capabilities to the connection standard. With a bandwidth capacity of up to 18Gbps, it has enough room to carry 3,840 x 2,160 resolution video at up to 60fps. It also has support for up to 32 audio channels, "dynamic auto lipsync" and additional CEC extensions.

The connector itself is unchanged, which is good for backwards compatibility but may disappoint anyone hoping for something sturdier to support all of those suddenly-popular dongles. The cables won't change either, as the group claims current high-speed Category 2 wires can handle the increased bandwidth.

Some companies have suggested upgrade paths for their UHDTVs already on the market -- hopefully we'll find out more about those plans this week at IFA 2013."

Incoming.

Sony Japan’s PS4 Press Conference 2013 with english translation Ustream channel now open

Dual Shockers
On Monday September 9th, at 3 PM Japan Time (that translates to 2 AM on the east coast of the United States, 11 PM on the west coast, 7 AM in the UK and 8 AM in Central Europe) Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia is expected to unveil the Japanese release date of the PS4, and will possibly make some pretty big announcements as well in a relevant press conference.

Adrian Chmielarz (former People can fly), claims that
I think Adrian should jump into the conversation. He does it all the time in his blogs.

Here I am. So...

1. I am not doing a damage control, but I do want to clarify one thing. But first, yes, devs I know -- and as someone has shown it before in this thread, some other devs already talked about it too -- claim that there's 50% speed difference WHEN DEVELOPING in cross-gen/next-gen PS4/XO games. So there we are, I said it and I stand by it. Notice: WHEN DEVELOPING. It'll become clear in a second.

2. Will this change in the future? WIll devs discover some tricks to narrow the gap? Will stuff like XO cloud computing help? Hell if I know. Uhm, maybe? I know that devs -- well, most of them -- will do whatever they can do get you the best games possible. You're going to see a lot of multiplatform games this next gen, just as you've seen them in this gen, so it's in studios' best interest that there's no clear advantage in one version over the other.

3. Does it mean studios will cripple PS4 versions to match XO ones? Not really, do not underestimate the devs. Even if this happens, you will not know that and that's okay. You've never seen most games in their most powerful form anyway (when we work on them on our ninja dev PCs in 1080p 120fps with all the antialiasings and stuff turned on for ***** and giggles). But most of the time devs have a target and they meet this target. If it's a multiplatform game, it's designed with this in mind from the start. So maybe it's not maxing out one console while going 100% on the other. Maybe it's 100% on both, but they take extra time for super-extra optimizations on the weaker hardware to make sure things look the same as on the more powerful platform. Etc. etc.

4. So what is that "one thing" I want to clarify, that some people may consider "damage control", but really is just an explanation. Someone mentioned Titanfall, which looks money and enjoys a great hype. Exactly. A great dev will make a great game no matter what's the hardware. Current gen CoDs looks great and it's 60 fps, on both platforms (well, and PC :). To most devs that is just impossible to achieve. And yet...

Think about it this way. X360 is faster than PS3. Not just easier to program on, it's faster overall (although PS is faster/better in SOME areas). And yet no exclusive on X360 looks like The Last of Us. Halo 4 looks great. Gears blew my mind in 2006. And still, the best looking AAA game of this generation belongs to the supposedly weaker platform.

So if you think that the war is over because PS4 is 50% faster TODAY, then you're delusional. This is far from over, and will probably never be over, at least not this upcoming gen.

interesting

It's the game i want to play the most out of any launch titles. Sadly it's not a launch title. Have to wait until release day :ouch:

But looks amazing already. Journey was mind blowing, but short. Would be nice to travel longer distance, have to avoid more creatures, could get killed not just shortened cape. Things like that. 👍

DroveClub will not be free. DriveClub Plus Edition will be a stripped down version. I'm thinking GT5p vs GT5 until we get full details. I do get your point though, and it will be enough to get some enjoyment out of the system. A lot of us played that MotorStorm demo for months trying to beat each other's times, until the full game came out.

I'm just ticked off that GT6 won't be a dual release. Me personally, I don't have a whole lot of incentive to get a PS4 now. But I will anyway.

#DriveClub Plus Edition will have just a few tracks and cars missing but will contain all Trophies and in-game achievements. Evolution said this just the other day. There will be the ability to upgrade to the full version straight away.

What games do you plan on getting guys? I will be buying Battlefield 4 and Killzone Shadow Fall and will receive #DriveClub and Rezogun with PlayStation Plus. Watch_dogs and Call of Duty Ghosts will be Christmas additions.

Roll on 29 November...
