Stayed up to watch the stream last night/this morning and i was impressed by what i heard and saw, most of the game trailers and demos were fantastic!, Apart from the Witness (i dont like puzzle games, i find them boring) and drive club (thought it looked meh!) but overall everything looks and sounds good and im looking forward to hearing and seeing more 👍
 
I'm really surprised all anyone is talking about is the hardware. There's really no reason to even worry about the hardware. It's not a PC and we have no idea what a certain GPU or CPU will do in a console. They always get alot more out of the console the the PC conterpart with the hardware.

What I am amazed by is that they seemed to have actually addressed the single biggest problem with the PS3 which is the PSN. I stopped playing my PS3 because the PSN just pailed in comparison to xbox live. It was a pain to meet with friends and join their games, and was really just an awful experience compared to it's rival.

Some of the ideas they have for the PSN look fantastic. I love the live streaming. That will come in super handy for sports leagues. It will be an actuall way to stop cheesing and make them more realistic. Being able to play back catalogs of PS games on your tablet or phone, did I see PS4 on the vita?

It seems like they are really moving forward with the PSN and i can't believe more isn't being said about it. The hardware will obviously be a huge improvement over what is now, and the games will look fantastic. Just look at high end PC screen shots now and that's what the games will look like. The reall story is in how they will take the PSN and make it actually usable when you want to play with friends.

Actually we discussed this a LOT in this thread already especially around pages 100 or so. Some people seem to think the free PSN works just as well as the paid xboxlive. :lol:
Xboxlive is miles ahead IMO. I gave up on that beat up horse yesterday. They also didnt say if PSN was going to be free on the PS4. Some say it will always be free but they also said Playstation would never be announced before the xbox. Which we know is also wrong.

Switching gears, it will be interresting to see how it works with backward compatible games. It says you can stream PS1 PS2 and PS3 games but I have a feeling we will have to purchase them all over again. Which is just bs. I already paid for the game once, should not have to pay for it again to play on the new console. I guess we will see. No one is talking about the Blu Ray player on the PS4 at all. Did I miss something??

I think I will try to watch some of it on my lunch break. I didnt watch any of it last night. I just figured I would wait today to see the announced specs and details. (listed in the first post of this thread)
 
About the controller on first proper glance I think it looks pretty good, ergonomics wise. The grips seem longer, less arched and the whole thing is a little bit bulkier, just what I hoped for.

Triggers also look better, fingers won't slide off so easily. Wish the stick had been moved to the D-Pad location but ah well.

So if they announced where is it? Where is a proof, a picture of actual machine. Not the new Dual Shock Controller, won't be fulled by that.

Step back few years back and try to remember how PS3 announcement looked like rather give dictionary rules that was clearly broken. It was fun to watch how the eat a cookie and still have this cookie. :) Sony know how to surprise us, and i didn't for a second doubt they didn't show us actual game console. I was right, and so it was true what they statement few weeks earlier saying that Sony did not make same mistake again by showing next game console before Microsoft does. 👍

You got it wrong and no shame at all exists in acknowledging that, what does you not favours at all is this utterly silly attempt to deny that Sony quite clearly announced the PS4 last night.

Which is exactly what they did, you made no mention before yesterday of having to see the physical box, and the have quite clearly described specs (pictures of which are all over the web) and the also stated a release window (Holidays 2013).

The web is quite frankly overloaded with info all about Sony announcing the PS4, at this moment you are utterly alone on the planet in denying that.

I like the looks of the new controller a lot. As I stated before, the PS controllers felt too small in my hands and I would get cramps. The xbox controllers never gave me any problems. The PS4 controllers are closer to the size of the 360 controllers which will be much more comfortable to me. Also more ergonomic. 👍

They probably just haven't finished the case design, doesn't mean you have to rant.about it
 
The only odd thing about the controller is that they showed it, talked about the touch pad then (unless I missed it) didn't show a single use of it in the whole two hours. Bit strange to show off the biggest change to the controller then not bother showing us what it's used for.

Also, Sony got REALLY smart about their team: A software developer was put in charge of the console's design and power and internal stuff, a cloud gaming company was put in charge of the online stuff and the creative minds at Media Molecule are in charge of Move support and other aspects? Seriously, modding could easily be supported with this set up.

I can't believe they still refuse to swap the dpad and left thumbstick. It's crazy. The thumbstick is now the main control device and if it's current location was the best that's where they would have stuck the dpad on the original PS1. Madness.

It's not the hardware that dictates whether modding is possible or not, it just defines how easy or difficult it would be. The operating system has to allow for it and a suitable platform to build the mod on has to exist, if you think you'll be able to take a mod for, say... I don't know, let's say Project CARS, copy it to a USB stick and then upload it to your PS4, you're mistaken.


About the controller, I wasn't convinced when they first showed it but looking at it now and imagining what it'll feel like to hold, I'm quite excited. I imagine it'll have a bit of heft to it and the PS3 grips are too small for me. I look forward to killing my first one and cracking it open to have a look inside!

While I can't argue with that, the sticks are higher up now and should be more comfortable to use than the DS3's.

Well if they swapped them around I would hate it. I like the position as it is thanks.
 
I forgot to mention the headphone jack on the PS4 controller will be a welcome feature too. Hopefully most any headset will work instead of having to get a blu Tooth.

Not really. It's not a touch screen though. It's a touch pad. I hoped it would have a touch screen as developers could make good use of one to cut down on ingame menus or allowing gamers to store their own shortcuts. Alas, it wasn't to be. It's probably for the best though. A touchscreen would drastically cut battery life and increase costs.

Except it's still personal preference, so "well, the 360 did it" still isn't an actual reason why Sony needs to do it.

I do prefer the PS3 layout. Going up/right on Xbox analog makes my thumb feel stretched. I'd prefer they didnt go that way but I could easily adapt over a few weeks of playing.
 
Anyway my thoughts on the games.

Deep Down - Doesn't look like it'd be my thing at all, looked visually very impressive though.
Destiny - No interest in FPS.
Diablo 3 - No interest in that sort of game.
Drive Club - Certainly my genre and from what we saw it looked like a decent PGR style game but teams/clubs aren't my thing so if that is the only option and there is no straight up single player i'll probably not be interested.
Final Fantasy - Well it was a pretty pointless announcement because we know what their release schedules are like, I'm still waiting for FFX HD. Which was the last FF game I enjoyed so unless the core mechanics are more like that and earlier, doubt i'd be interested.
Infamous: Second Son - I played the first Infamous and didn't like it at all so again didn't really pique my interest.
Killzone see Destiny.
Knack I like these sorts of platform games so it could be good, didn't look anything too revolutionary though. Need to see more.
The Witness Pretty meh, again nothing to set the world alight, just a puzzle game as we've seen for years. Might be fun but yeah, not exciting.
Watch Dogs Certainly looks impressive but as something we'd already seen it was hard to get excited. Gameplay looked good, if a little disjointed in who the guy was and what his aims were/which 'side' he was on.

So yeah overall those few games did very little for me personally, hopefully I see a lot more over the next few months and E3 that are more my thing.

Oh by the way, all the 4k gaming talk has been put to bed, Sony have confirmed what most sane people expected, 4k multimedia yes, 4k gaming no.

Stick placement doesn't actually bother me, I can switch between the two quite easily.

I do however prefer the size and build of the 360's controller, the Dual Shock has always felt a bit 'fragile' in comparison.
 
I was speaking purely from stick placement. There are things that the 360 controller does better (mostly the shape), but stick placement wasn't one of them I feel.




Some good news:

The official specs are in for the PlayStation 4 and what we have is, by and large, confirmation of existing DigitalFoundry stories - with one outstanding, exciting exception. At the PlayStation Meeting yesterday, Sony revealed that its new console ships with 8GB of GDDR5 RAM, not the 4GB we previously reported. It was a pleasant surprise not just for us, but also for many game developers out there working on PS4 titles now and completely unaware of the upgrade - a final flourish to the design seemingly added in at the last moment to make PlayStation 4 the most technologically advanced games console of the next gaming era.

Read: PS4 developers have been designing games for (and possibly with development kits containing) 4GB, and now they have twice as much to use. A far cry from when Sony did the opposite with the PS3.

I love the new controller, I mean the look of it but I have a feeling that it will be better than the DS3, I mean DAT blue light lol
