You can't simply use a normal blueray (reader) drive as burner.

Or do I misunderstand you and you simply mean that every disc comes from factory with a unique code? Well, that's very much possible and practicable.

I was just making a suggestion. Just because they said they won't use online DRM, doesn't mean they won't use DRM at all.

Where did they say that they're not going to use online DRM? As far as I know they only said that it would be left to publishers.

I wasn't even mentioning the second point btw.

I am as big a PlayStation fan as anyone, and would never consider buying any Xbox, but saying the Xbox One will be disastrous is silly I think. Yes it's unveiling has been underwhelming but Microsoft is more than capable of changing people's perceptions of it.

Roll on E3. For PlayStation not Xbox!

Again, we have yet to receive the whole picture from Sony regarding the PS4, and if MS are having cooling problems with the XBone, what's to say that the PS4 won't? There's still lots of info we haven't got yet.

For example, people are saying that the PS4 will have 8Gb of memory available, but first of all there is an OS sitting in the background, as well as the installation system, the Gaikai system, sharing across internet system, the ability to take control of someone else's game, etc.

Do you really think that this doesn't take any memory? Do you think that the game is the only thing the console runs while it's streaming to the internet? If so, you are sorely mistaken.

the memory thing is bugging me now. people have to understand its data swap space. if I put 6GB of GDDR5 on a GTX 560ti, it won't make it any faster or able. it will be wasted ram.

I'm seeing that people mention ram as GPU performance. Xbox is using cache ram, like a cache SSD/HDD. Sony is using SSD if you like,.

Making PS4/One 16Gb won't bring more power, the GPU isn't up to the task of showing that load. The new systems seem well balanced. Putting 500mb of vram on a GTX titan would be bad but there's a point where it can only carry so much. The 6gb of ram on the TITAN is for SLI, meaning any game using 4-5GB of vram would need two titans, so like a modern game running at 4k would be 20-30fps and maxing out the GPU. Add another Titan in and you'll be able to run that game demanding 4-5gb of vram.

console wil have unified ram so vram and system ram is one, they have like 2-3Gbs of system and 2-3Gbs of vram to manage how they want. That's easliy enough for a 7790 or 7850 even when taking out bloated OS and DX11 api.

they've gone overboard as apps take ram space, multitasking does. More ram leads to better expansion. the PSN store is gimped by Sony low ram issue. Anything outside a game has a minscule amount to play with. This was an huge oversight by Sony back in 2005 but the landscape did change a lot from being more than a game box and bluray player. Now they can have stuff in the background running and add in future apps. before they had to be coding geniuses

There is quite a big advantage for PS4 compared to Xbox One regarding memory. Memory bandwidth is a lot higher than Xbox One although not as much as Microsoft claim for Xbox 360 :lol:. Main thing though is whole memory has that speed, Xbox One peak fully optimised is not as high as PS4 level. Xbox is closer to a memory bottleneck level but I think the way it is architected, it doesn't make much a negative difference. You have to work harder for that speed though.

GPU on PS4 is a lot more powerful so should show a decent difference for next-gen effects. Load times and higher quality textures might be an advantage over Xbox One regarding memory.

Only thing that can put me off PS4 is if they charge for online gaming. DRM thing I am not worried about as it should hopefully be better than PC gaming or worst case slightly worse in some parts but with some benefits.
 
I have a feeling if Sony doesn't have a used game system like MS publishers won't make games for the PS4 giving the Xbox One the upper hand over time. So oddly I want the PS4 to have a slightly better but similar used game setup as the One.

I think publishers will make games for PS4 still like they are currently for PS3 if they keep restricitions as they are now. If Sony dominates the market with PS4, Microsoft are the ones in trouble. Money for timed exclusives can get you so far in short term, if there is little attraction there as a whole in the future, it strengthens position of the leader.

They will like the platform which gives them the most profit. If PS4 dominates, then it will be console they want to be on the most.

If it dominates I agree. If its 50/50 or 60/40 then the Xbone will be the publishers desired choice I feel.

After all the doom surrounding Xbone, I still don't see it being dominated. Time will tell.

Then it's time to make games people want to keep instead of this yearly BS. They can't force us to buy either console. If they both intend to screw us, console gaming is dead.

PS3 has finally overtaken Xbox 360 so momentum is with Sony. Given that PS4 might be releasing at same time, and should cost similar or even cheaper than Xbox One, have a big advantage in graphics department and if they keep PSN free but make it worlds fastest gaming network like Gaikai person mentioned with all the extra social features, then I think it is looking very promising for Sony. It will be interesting to see sales performance of both consoles in first year, if Microsoft can overcome all the negativity. Both consoles should be able to hit quite low price points quickly which is a good thing I think for both.

If 60/40 I doubt publishers will be repelling Sony.

That is all so far regarding DRM, and also you can use PS4 totally offline. Sony said they are listening though so will be great if they keep it like how it is with PS3.

This better be cleared up at E3. If people are still in the dark after E3, it's gonna get ugly.

Yep hopefully everything is cleared up. The way it is currently though, publishers will get the negativity if they disable games being allowed to be sold.

If they were not going to use it then it's better PR to announce it at E3

I'm pretty sure publishers are in the business of selling games, which is something they won't be doing a lot of on an unpopular console.
 
I'm not gonna lie, all I knew about DRM was that for some reason many people hated it, not once did I know what the hell it actually was :lol:

It's a product of the outlandish system of intellectual property rights here in the US. Basically what it's boiling down to is that the digital media is the property of whoever made it and when you give them money you're not actually buying it, only gaining permission to use it as long as they let you.

I mean ... sure xbone will be atrocious when it comes to actual sharing (and due to several accounts like the no indies anymore, content as well) but I'm still concern a bit about Sony, BF4 is a title released to it and having EA saying no online passes makes it hard to believe that PS4 will stay in the same scheme of this generation.

That said maybe Sony isn't as money grabbing as .. Microsoft, because MS really do like to charge for their services (like any other company) and then charge more for arbitrary BS no one cares about. Howver it seems that this whole thing is indeed driven by 3rd party publishers, which makes me think that .. it might not be as much of a brilliant future for mainstream gaming, which sucks because watch dogs looks really cool on PS4, and so does Driveclub.

Also, the future being all platforms being like Steam is a huge pile of stinking manure, I can get a physical copy of GT5 here, but I cannot buy/get a game through Steam that easily(I'm yet to buy ArmA III, I do have the money but it can't be transfer to Paypal neither I can use Mastercard or Visa because of my location), so screw that, whoever supports that **** needs to realize that the world is far far bigger than the US.

Well, I don't live in the US, and I fully understand the plus' to a cloud based gaming console.
