Did you really just say nobody uses CD and MP3? Seriously?

As for backwards compatibility it's always been about convenience, people will always prefer and all in one box to do it all rather than needing two. Not everyone has the space for 2+ consoles either.

I understand why Sony stopped the PS3 from playing PS2 games because it was ruining them but for PS4,surely putting PS3 hardware in it can't be that expensive can it?
Even if it was 80 pounds more at 430 pounds, and plays PS1 games too,you have a PS4,PS3 and PS1 in 1 and I think that justifies more money and then there's no need for streaming old games.
Even a PS2 emulator inside can't cost that much, there old cheap pieces of hardware now.
But for inability to play MP3's and CD's is annoying, what about first time console buyers aswell?
As Samus said,convenience.

I could care less about MP3's and especial backward compatibility in PS4. And don't tell me that your PS3 is all round entertainment system because it isn't You would have to use CFW on your PS3 to fully enjoy PS3 multimedia capabilities. But since you using PS3 OFW your console is handicapped. I know because i had it for some time and i missed much.

Since PS4 is next generation it should do more than just play old CD mp3 files no one really uses and backward compatibility that is unnecessary taking into this equation the fact we all already have PS3, so why do we need another one? That's the most ridicules customers demand of all time. Keep your PS3 and Buy PS4, you spend less money on new system in this case.
So what your saying is to keep our ps3 taking up space on our rack or stand or whoever you have your media just so we can use it be our media server.

If your so thrilled with Sony why did they take the streaming capabilities out of the ps3? What's your reasoning for that? It already worked great so why remove it?

I'm also not sure you understand the extent that people used the ps3 to stream media. It could use anything from your PC including streaming blue ray movies, all music and is a really easy way to show your kids their family photos. Kids love seeing their picture on a tv.

All I'm saying is that the ps3 was a very capable media server. There's only one reason for Sony to leave it out entirely and it's to try and get people to subscribe to a service.

Or like posted above maybe they will add it later and it's just not ready yet.

It has nothing to do with old tech or whatever your claiming. Streaming video and playing digital music is current tech.

I really don't see how you can argue for Sony leaving out the ability to play music and stream video.

Wait a minute, I got fixated on the 'no one really uses' ridiculousness and missed the general point the first time I read this. So what exactly is PS4 doing more in terms of multimedia, or anything?

The problem is not with sony, they now what their doing. The problem is with customers because they are not educated enough in terms of new technologies. Customers knowledge is way behind the hardware capabilities. Ill give you an example.

Most of customers cry about lack of backward compatibility and mp3 and cd. But the fact is no one would ever used those features in PS4. Rather listening mp3 on PS4 you would use your mobile phone or iphone or mp3 player because it's more convenient and more comfortable. No one would ever play PS3 games anymore since almost every one want's to jump on PS4 and Xbox One. So why you would bother ??

Customers are not educated enough these days. Backing up your theory with saying that PS3 would take some space under your TV is the proof of that. Your TV has multiple inputs, there is at least 3 or 4 HDMI inputs you could use to connect new device such as PS4 or you could also use component cable. PS4 comes with HDMI cable, so sony think that through. Most PS3 users never used more than one HDMI output if they had only one console. Thanks to PS4 this would change. Or if someone still decide to sell he's ps3 to backup cash reserve and buy PS4 then it's just like i tell you. He's not educated enough in terms on new technologies. Being unaware of what your ps3 is capable and selling it to replace with hardware that doesn't have those capabilities is the customers fault. Sony did good thing by cutting cd + mp3 + ps3 backward compatibility, and media server. Since you already have device i mean PS3 that can do all that there is no reason for PS4 to have them.

You already have media server in your PS3, why would you need it in another device ??? :odd: Keep your PS3, problem solved. 💡

Sky TV box, PS3, and PC. And I only have two HDMI's. Now do you see the issue.

Got my spare DS4. Been playing BF4 with it on PC and it works great. Tried it on PS3 as well, it's fine except the PS button doesn't work :/

Thumbsticks are just slightly farther apart and it makes quite a difference in feel and use, especially combined with the indentations.

I love how your argument is "people are dumb, Sony knows what's best for you".

What about people who don't have a PS3? Or will Sony only sell PS4s to people who have owned a PS3?

I have a good feeling I'm going to like the DS4, might have to wait till Christmas for that and PS4 though.. Better late than never I suppose :P

Folks correct me if i am wrong but wasn't it said that the PS4 is easier to make, in terms of graphics cards, sound cards and processors etc ?.Also was it said that the games will be easier to make as well ?.Compared with the Cell processor anyway. That should make games developers jump on the PS4 bandwagon then if it's true. And would it free up money too, as it wouldn't be as hard to make the PS4 and games to go with it.

It is easier to develop for than the Xbox One as it doesn't have the cloud thing that MS are betting the Ones success on. If you have noticed, no third party title that will release with the One is making use of the MS cloud. This could be because developers are not willing to invest their time and money on making a game that uses the cloud, instead developing on system that does not use such feature, making it easier for developers to make games. I reckon many next generation games will the PS4 as the lead platform, with the Xbox One getting the ports. We already have an example of this, Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty Ghosts both proven to run better on PS4.

No idea how trustworthy this source is, but I thought it's worth posting.

Perhaps not in that regard, but from a general point of view his first statement isn't really wrong when looking at averages:

The problem is not with sony, they now what their doing. The problem is with customers because they are not educated enough in terms of new technologies. Customers knowledge is way behind the hardware capabilities. Ill give you an example.

the ps3 is not a media server any longer. The last ps3 update will no longer let you use it as a media server. And also no one that has a quality surround sound uses mp3. I don't think you know what a media server or lossless audio is. No one with nice speakers wants to hook a phone up to the high end audio system and hear junk mp3 files play over their nice speakers. They want to stream their lossless music they have saved on a huge hdd, computer or other device to their AVR.

And why would it matter how many hdmi inputs your tv has? You only need one when you use an AVR with nice speakers.

I'm starting to see which customer it is that's uneducated on technology.

For me the ps3 was a failure as far as gaming goes. I almost strictly play online with real friends and it was terrible for that. It did though have a few great single player exclusives. I assumed the ps4 wouldn't cut out the few things the ps3 did great and that was helping to eliminate the need for a separate media server.

With Microsoft announcing that the xbone will do the streaming and music I can't imagine Sony not patching it in. Hopefully the article is correct posted above.

Your reasoning for not having those features makes no sense at all though. With your logic cell phones should only make calls and to get the features a smart phone has you should need to carry around a cell phone, MP3 player, laptop, gps system, handheld gaming device, and thousands of other tools to be able to enjoy the convenience of a modern phone.

So you've still not explained, what are these 'new technologies' PS4 is doing that's better than CD and MP3?

What on earth makes you think you know what everyone does? Why would I listen to music via the crappy speakers in my phone when I could have it coming out of my much better TV speakers?

No one would ever play PS3 games anymore since almost every one want's to jump on PS4 and Xbox One. So why you would bother ??

Again, absolutely ridiculous for you to tell us what everyone will do. PS3 games will not suddenly turn to dust, they're still games. I play SNES games still on occasion, why wouldn't I still play PS3 games?

...and that helps with space how? Oh and yet again you're assuming you know everything about everyone. My TV has two HDMI inputs, not 3 or 4. That also still doesn't solve the space/moving/swapping consoles around issue, does it?

Do you have a mobile phone? Or a DVD player? Or a camera? Maybe these manufacturers can take out important features in the next version? Why did Sony include a Blu-Ray player on PS4, everyone can use the PS3 for that, can't they?

You already have media server in your PS3, why would you need it in another device ??? :odd: Keep your PS3, problem solved. 💡

If you still haven't got it then you never will.

"...proven to run better on PS4.", consoles are not even out yet but it's "proven". I have heard that those games on the X1 may only be 720p and PS4 1080p but that is not enough to say they run better - it may be hard to differentiate between the resolution. I have a good Panasonic plasma that is 720p and a good 1080p Samsung LED but I cannot tell the difference - maybe if I put side by side. These games "may" run better, whom I to say at this point, but this is how statements become facts in the minds of many, "...I read it on the forums...". Just saying...

There has been some bollocks spouted on here the last couple of days telling us what we should do or be content with. I would have thought MP3 and Cd playback would be the bare minimum it should play. It's not like everyone is kicking off because it doesn't play tapes or floppy disks.

To be honest this next gen release is turning into a bit of farce, with constant backtracking, game delays and confusing information. I can't wait for a year down the road where everyone knows what is going on.

@Samus. You just did.

No no clear your throat, you can say it again. I insist.

On a serious note I can only really repeat what I said yesterday...

It's funny how some people will go to any length to defend a piece of hardware by a company they have absolutely no affiliation with.

It's also funny how people are happy to listen to their music through laptop/pc/docking station. My 7.1 surround sound system, might as well go in the bin.

Indeed, just plug your phone into your 2W pc speakers, that's the future. The GBs of FLAC I have on my PC? They're old hat, ain't nobody got time for that.

I'm going to ignore every other typical ussr-style uninformed rantings in this post and focus on this one thing:

Customers are not educated enough these days. Backing up your theory with saying that PS3 would take some space under your TV is the proof of that. Your TV has multiple inputs, there is at least 3 or 4 HDMI inputs you could use to connect new device such as PS4 or you could also use component cable.

Did you just seriously attempt to dictate how many hookups people's TV's have as proof that their owners are uneducated?

My PS3 with latest FW 4.51 still works as media server, I use it everyday for music and movies, as well picture viewing ( I connected my PS3 to my laptop which has 3 external HDD with over 4TB total storage ). I also plays my Mp3 using PS3 through my Mordaunt Short Carnival 5.1 speakers with Harman Kardon AVR, it sounds decent enough.
