So is this the British equivalent of a Lenco Bearcat?

To an extent, these were developed to stop specific threats regularly encountered from armed civilians during service. The main one (as you can see) is rolling barrels under them as they're on patrol. Some were explosive but most were simply intended to "beach" the vehicle.

Remember when LAPD got a bunch of BMW i3s and Teslas? Well turns out they weren't even using them.

Both the local and LAPD leadership talked boldly in 2016 about greener practices and technologies, with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti telling the Los Angeles Times we “should be thinking green in everything we do.” The LA Times reported that the BMW i3 fleet, made up of 100 cars on lease by LAPD, would cost about $1.4 million over three years—$387 a month per car, according to the story. An additional $1.5 million went into infrastructure investment for electric cars.

An investigation by CBS Los Angeles found the cars, meant to be used for non-emergency purposes like outreach and police business instead of patrols or chases, haven’t really been used at all.

Records searched by CBS Los Angeles found that the LAPD’s BMWs, many of which have been in use for more than a year, had between a few hundred and a few thousand miles on them. A car that had an in-service date of May 27, 2016 only had 400 miles on it at the time of the investigation

As previously reported, the imported ZB Commodore – a rebadged but locally tuned version of the Opel Insignia – is being considered for police duties in various states and territories, but an official decision is yet to be reached.

Victoria Police has already announced that up to 80 diesel-powered BMW 530d sedans are joining its highway patrol fleet this year, while the Chrysler 300 SRT Core will join NSW Police’s pursuit team.

GTI's and R models of the both current and previous generation of the Volkswagen Golf are surprisingly popular as a hot hatchback over here. Something cannot be sad about any other Hot Hatchbacks ever.

What i didn't know is that Abu Dhabi used to have a GTI as one of their police cars. It's not as insane as those Dubai Supercars but i kinda like it more anyways.

That being said, the current Abu Dhabi police livery looks bad compared to the previous one (shown above):

Nice Porsche 924, awful livery.
