I was thinking - when you have your car in GT5, and it's possible to write it off, what do you think about the idea of buying insurance for it?

So, if you write it off and it's your only car, you could get some money from insurance if you have bought it . . . interesting gamble!

What does everybody else think about this idea? Thanks guys :)

Ewwww no...i dont think its The Real Car Headaches That Everyone Try To Avoid Simulator.... it is The Real Driving Simulator...i just cant imagine of crashing the car ive bought and tuned to its finest point, and then the Insurance thingy and...bah its just a bad idea :/

I like the idea of insurance and even more so the ability to wreck a car beyond repair.

To some this may seem like an annoyance, but to me it would make the car seem so much more real and make it feel "yours" as you will actually have to take care of it and worry about crashing it.

I would like to see a certain amount of credits deducted from your stash every so many GT days.

How much should be determined by what plan you bought. One plan may only cover cars up to a certain price. Another plan may require you to go 50/50 over the repair cost. Another plan may only repair up to 100,000 credits worth of damage every 100 GT days. There is alot of possibilities.

Also, I would like clean drivers who rarely get in wrecks to have their rates go down over time, while wreckless drivers have their rates go up.l

Its a game. I mean we play it to have fun not to worry about our insurance rate. I'm for a cost to the damage repairs but that's pushing it a bit.
BTW we don't even know if there will be damage on street cars.

I really dont see the point of all these imaginary 'what if' threads. It's not going to be in the game and a thread asking for opinions on a random idea will result in some members saying 'ok' and others 'nah'. Don't mean to be antisocial, but come on.

Ideas are flowing. These could be potential features. Many great things in history have happened because some people said "What if?"...Of course, there were many that also said "I really don't see the point":sly:

For those against insurance or the ability to destroy a car beyond repair, I have a question for you, how else in the virtual world can you make the car feel more like you own it?

A PD spokesman said that including a cockpit view made the car feel more "yours" but that can go only so far.

To take virtual car ownership to the next level you need to introduce real life variables into the virtual world.

In real life you have to do Car maintence. This means car washes, oil changes etc. That has already found its way in GT.

Car repair. In real life your car can blow a head gasket, clog up an air filter, need new sparkplugs, etc etc. There is custom air filters and other tuning parts in GT. It would be even more realistic if parts like spark plugs wore down and you bought your car a tuneup every once in a while, like you would in real life.

Car damage. In real life your car may get damaged or you may damage another car so you would need insurance.

Sorry Earth it doesn't fly with me. Though it is a good idea i don't think it would happen.

I actually think it would be a great way to moderate the online games. Every player could get a rating from A+ to F based on how much damage they cause. A-rated players would be the cleanest of the lot, B-rated players might get into the occasional scrape, C-rated players attract more damage than your average, D-rated players usually can't finish a race without hitting something, E-rated players have mistaken the game for a demolition derby and F-rated players are the idiots who think the only way to pass is to punt the opposition off. At the end of the race, the damage is assessed and a certain amount deducted from prize money. The beauty of it is that even if some moron gets an F-rating and then changes to a car in pristine condition for the next race, he's still going to lose money for it. The deduction would have to be worked out in such a way that if you're racing with a rating of F, you're going to be making a loss until you start driving properly.

The only downside is that collision detection might be a bit iffy. I can't count the number of times I've been rallying in GT4 and taken a time penalty when the other car hit me, like at the beginning of Swiss Alps (Reverse); because the AI is offline, he always moves across, and because the start is always staggered, you'll hit him in the side and get a penalty for it. It would really suck if you're a pretty clean racer but get a bad rating because some idiot hit you and the game judged it your fault.

Umm... GT is a driving simulator, not a hassle simulator...

Why would I buy GT so I can experience insurance buying gameplay? Serious. XD

In real life, there are virtually no insurers that cover track racing. It's more effective to just pay the damages. So I don't see why it should have a place in any game.

The point is to insure youself against punters on the interwebs, and if you damage your own car you do not have to pay to get it repaired.

You could always not pay the insurance and run the risk of damaging your car and then having to pay for damage, or writing it off and not getting a replacement vehicle.

In any case if insurance was to be included in the game it should only be paid for before the start of a race for a small sum of credits. (sort of like a non compulsory entry fee).

no, it's a racing sim not a life sim. no banks, no loans, no insurance. i just want driving. i drive/play gt to get away from all that garbage, why would i want it in the game?

This crazy. What if this what if that.
If you you dont want to damage your car race with the damage off until you can race with the real men or lady's.
All these noob threads are becoming a joke.

I like the idea of service the car. We already have step one with oil change and carwash. It would be cool to do a full service to ensure you have the optimal Power and Stability available.

While Gran Turismo is a pretty realistic driving simulator, it is not REAL LIFE and therefore a line has to be drawn somewhere between a GAME and REALITY. This is as good a place as any. Sure having to pay for damage, or for a service could have a place in a GAME, but having to have insurance is taking it too far.

It has to be simple and not get too complicated. I can't see a simple way of putting insurance in the game. So it's out! But I want more parts to wear out, so brakes, suspension, turbo, crankshaft and all that stuff should get worse. Buying a used car shouldn't be a new car with old oil in it. But paying for a full service should make it as new again :)

ok ok... if you told me that if i punt a car damaging it, i've to repair it with my money would be a truly good thing, it could prevent punters online...

Oh no... what if the GT Bank went bankrupt!
the crisis of credit in Gran Turismo..
No thanks, it's another pointless idea

Wasn't it in GT2 that everything was split up in cities?

Maybe they could have an insurance for new cars for errors made in the assembly of the car. If the engine suddenly stops or catches fire or something like that. And of course you would have to pay road tax for cars you use more than xx miles a week. Not to forget the insurance when you do the service of your car. 2 weeks open affair so you can go back to the dealer with the car if you're not happy. And when you tune your car you get insurance for turbos and stuff but then your regular insurance expands. To make it easier to keep track of all your insurances you can hire a bank man who tells you if it's a good deal or not.

or... we could just keep it a Gran Turismo game :P

How about this...Your online user name has a "grade" on how you drive that is consantly updated after everyrace you drive. "A" being a clean driver. "F" being a wrecking ball on wheels. And so fourth. Then allow race hosts to set grade requirments for their races. I think that would get rid of the punters and force them to drive properly. But that's just what I think.

An option for fully comp or TPFT. Pay in lump sum or monthly.

Your first year of racing is gonna be expensive, but after a few years it comes down.

Oh and what about no claims bonuses?

And your not covered if you modify your car without informing insurers.

I dont see how exactly this would fit into a GT5 but it would be nice to get back some cash after totaling your car perhaps it could be sold to the GT junk yard as scrap metal. Seriously this insurance thing would just encourage some people to drive more wreckless knowing that they are covered by insurance.
