Works great, although it was a disaster in GT4 (which forced steering on the x-axis of the right stick even if you reassigned it, so even the tiniest forward or back pressure on the right stick while turning would override left-stick inputs, resulting in failing to brake going into corners or really weak acceleration on exit). Thankfully they fixed that for GT5.

I'll need to pick up a wheel one of these days, though.

Wow! I'm surprised that so many people are using L2 and R2 as throttle controls.

I'm still using the traditional X and Square for throttle, albeit with the analog stick to control steering.

Anyhow, I am still going to stick with what I have been using, I've been pretty successful racing online in this manner, even beating several people driving with G25s and other great racing wheels.

There are some many other games set up like that, plus they have a longer throw, why not? Those buttons are too short a throw IMHO, they're good unless you have something better and something better is built right in to the controller. If you tried the triggers a while I bet you'd never go back.

Yeah, I used to use X and Square in GT3 and GT4, but got used to R2 and L2 in NFS games, and I like it much better in GT5 now too.

I have a new DFGT and tried it a few times, but the set up physically hurt (sitting on the couch, leaning over with the wheel stuck on the coffee table.) I need to build some sort of basic set up so I can sit comfortably and use it. For now, analog sticks. At least it's very familiar, and I have had no problems racing with the regular controller thus far.

It's because you can apply gas/brake at the same time while still having good pressure sensitivity on both. If you use the right stick for gas and brake then you can only do one or the other.

But isn't doing "one or another" how you drive in real life? At least, I've never tried to brake and accelerate at the same time. Is this "cheating" or do actually race drivers ever do this (I'm genuinely interested since I don't know)?

I'm driving old style..... GT2 fashion! I've been using this method since GT2 and the analog controller. I'm turning with the left analog stick, X and square buttons for throttle and left 2 and right 2 for shifting gears!

I can never EVER get used to using triggers for gas/brake. It gets uncomfortable to keep pulling on the trigger for a long amount of time ...

You ain't kidding!

I use L2/R2 for brake/accelerate and on the endurance races, I've started switching to holding X on straights briefly, just to give my hand chance to recover from "PS3 claw" syndrome.

Daily driving no for most people. For race drivers yes they do.

Had no trouble with them "cracking" ?
They do look like exactly what I need, to be honest.
After 2hrs, the entire controller starts to feel like it's slipping in my hands due to numbness and trying to maintain control.

Actually I have had a few "crack" on me. It was my error each time though. If you drop your controller a few times, the back part that clips on to the original trigger will crack causing them to pop off easily. I've actually been through 3-4 pairs because of this. You should definitely give them a try though, I recommend them to everyone I can. I saw them a Walmart and they came 2 pair in one pack for about $7

I just got those yesterday, I saw them at Bestbuys, and thought $4.99 why not. Got home put them on and thought to myself... Why didn't Sony do this!

X and Square are "analog", so pressure sensitive, not comparable with a PC keyboard.

Correct, but the sensitivity and accuracy are fairly... terrible. It's more comparably to WASD than to a trigger.

There's a better alternative to WASD? Most RPG's still use that because it works so well, and typically shift is used to toggle run. There's nothing "lol territory" about any of it.

It's total lol territory. Keyboards weren't designed for gaming, it's basically a hack job. It's nerds making do with the crappy hardware they were stuck with and eventually getting used to it, and manufacturers and game developers being too lazy to come up with a sensible standard alternative. The W key isn't even directly above the S! So you can run, crawl and walk... now I'd like you to walk at a speed between walking and running. You can't? This is an RPG isn't it? PC's are surely more powerful than consoles, so where's your variable speed? Oh it's not there because WASD sucks.

I almost always drive with right foot braking, but I'd imagine that almost all race car drivers use left foot braking (like I do in GT5) because it's much quicker to switch from gas to brake. And brake to clutch, etc...

But I use MT in GT5 right now... I don't want to have to worry about shifting right now. XD

You mean "ex" or "cross", and not "X". X is a letter of the alphabet, but there are no letters on Sony's controllers; only shapes. Yes, technically the letter X is an ex/cross, but not all exes/crosses are the letter X. Similarly, there is no O on the controller, but rather a circle, and while the letter O can be a circle not all circles are the letter O.

The shapes on Sony controllers are:

• ex / cross
• circle
• square
• triangle

Personally, I'm an advocate of the industry-standard A/B/X/Y, but Sony likes to fly in the face of logic and reason just for the sake of doing so. They're like rebels without a clue (obvious reference to "rebel without a cause").

And what's so great about A/B/X/Y compared to X,O,Square,Triangle? Let the buttons be called whatever they're called. If you want A/B/X/Y so much, go play Forza.

Well, for oval courses I'll use the analogue stick for obvious reasons.

But usually I'll just change whenever it just feels right. I'm pretty sure I developed this habit in GT5P.

Bahahahaha!!! That's hilarious, I had to flip mine like that for one day, because my left thumb (steering thumb) was sore from the day before, doing a long-ass endurance race.. And lets just stay, that my flip-flopped controls didn't work so well, either.. 👍
