Nürburgring Nordschleife - Love or Hate?

Hate coz I'm bad at it
But love coz it's so hard.

Love it - i drove the full 4 hour endurance in one go, it just flows brilliantly and i will never tire of it.

I hate it. I much prefer average-size circuit driving.

I hate how popular it is online, with 16 people destroying each other within the first few corners.

I hate racing it with real track edge grip on and spinning out for just going 1% too hard out of a bend.

That said, I have managed to learn it somewhat. Got the Official GTR 7:29 trophy yesterday, and have won a few online races on it in the past.

Still hate it though.

Its popular as it incorperates nealy of the other real tracks into one. I see more people crash in a drag room than the Nurburgring and that is a straight line. Well whose fault is it when you crash? I personally have a hard time crashing on the course. Another reason is that GT online is plagued with Drift- slide and crash/Drag- drive straight then crash/Nascar- drive on a banked oval and crash rooms. People who want to seriously race host the ring.

Love it. Who can hate the nordschleife? (ignoring the fact you crashed more than ten times on it.)

I love knowing what Not to do on the track, but while thinking about what not to do, you end up doing it, and paying 10-15 seconds for it.

the ring is not great for online races as it's too chaotic, with lag and lack of spatial awareness, etc.

it depends who you race with but on the whole is fairly chaotic.

Virtually the only track I drive whenever I boot up the game, took a while to learn it but I know most of the corners very well, especially the first half, the latter half I still need to ease off a little. Love this track more than anything, the perfect testing ground and when you're in the groove makes this the best driving game out there. Plus I feel like the Nurburgring, despite how long it is, is probably the most detailed and believable track in the game by far, has lots of little bumps and every corner is unique. Some of the other real world tracks feel a little dated now like they're missing details on the track surface, they're too arcadey, too easy ;)

Before GT5 I was indifferent of it. I didn't log a lot of hours into GT4 but remember having some moments of frustration were I thought "how can I ever learn this track". Now, I absolutely love it and could be satisfied with having only it. There was a two week period where all I did was race online on either the 24hr layout or Nordschleife. Love it.

Oh wow! You mean there are other tracks besides the Ring??? I haven't noticed, I love the ring, the ring is my friend,,,,

Totally love it!!! It doesn't feel like you are in a racetrack but actually going somewhere... fast...

So much variation on this track that I don't get bored with it. Love it. 👍

how do i love thee? let me count the curves, and each one down Fuchsröhre double!

but the GT4 version was better. funkier, and not only because of all the grafs.

The only corner I'm really having trouble with now it Schwedenkreuz... I can't seem to get the braking distance right, and the little bump in the turn throws me off the track and into a bad place going into Aremberg... any tips?
It is a very difficult corner, the line between losing several seconds taking it slowly and going off is razor thin. Depending on the car I've found the real trick is to not be afraid to keep on the power to stay on the track. In something like the GTR you late brake up to it and if you don't keep your foot in it to use the cars power to keep traction round it it just slides off.
i hear you on schwedenkreuz. very tricky to know at what speed you can approach it, and once you're in it your options are already used up. my feeling is that there's too much to lose by screwing up the drive down to aremberg, so easy does it every time.

By far the best track in the game.👍

I think it's the only track where you can test and tune your car's. There is fast and slow sections and it makes it fun track. Definitely Love it!!

It's certainly a challenge, but it's not that great...maybe a better scenery would help. Not that it's bad, it's...alright.

I hated it the first 25 or so times I drove around it. Now I can't live without it.

I love it. When I'm playing on my wheel I just give up grinding on Indy to grind the German Touring Car, just so I can polish my skills on the "Green Hell".

This track has a bit of everything you could want, the "Nurb" is da BOMB!
P.S. love it.

How could anyone hate the track. 56 people don't know how to drive :)

The only people who hate this track haven't taken the time to learn it yet.

Hi, it's the most complex track there is.. ever!! Except the Isle of Mann (motorbikes). It takes a lot of practice but when you get it you'll LOVE it!! For the "Extreme German touring car" race get a Merc. CLK touring car (D2 1.2 mil. Tranny about 330), fully tune it up (624hp @ 1000kg ) and have a blast. Leave the skid recovery ON for starters. 1 lap @ 6:40.???...Have fun.

depends on the car, but i personally tend to try to set up my approach so that i can gas through the corner. most if not all of my cars can do that.
know that.
A) you will slip a bit of you do this (depending on downforce, but most cars slip)

B) your braking point is .5-1.0 second after the end of the bend, and because of the speed, should be hard.

C) use your downshifting in conjunction with your braking after the bend, i find that this is critical in this section because the following corner is a mid speed corner leading into a downhill straight.

I usually approach the bend in new setups/cars with caution, release the gas, test the grip of the car with a little wobble, and ease through the corner progressively.

once the network is back, i'd be happy to have some nordschleiffe sessions with any hardcore lovers of this track

56 people hate racing! hmmm:odd:

The Norderschleife is fantastic...sure it can be a hard track to get use to, yeah it's long, ok so it's narrow and undulated. But it's these challenges that make the Nurburg so unique!:trouble: All this variation keeps things interesting. What's the point in a track that is dead flat, no undulations, no tricky corners etc...where's the test of driver skill there?
I want to be tested and to put to the test!:sly:

agree. that's why you have to approach it at a lower speed than you're going to take it at then start turning up the wick. once you start the turn you can adjust speed up but absolutely not down. and no matter what your exit speed is there's always enough time to brake for arenburg (the most murderous dead zone on the circuit) IF you're in shape and NEVER enough if you aren't. and if you get off at arenburg not only are you in the gobi desert for entire seconds, you blow your drive all the way to adenauer, and for many cars fuchsröhre is (i think: it's no place to check your gauges) the fastest stretch on the course. so in the same way a butterfly's wings can start a hurricane, this little pissant of an almost non-corner called schwedenkreuz can blow up your whole world.

and that's why nurburgring is the best. it is, despite its overwhelming magnitude, an organic whole. a truly zen experience.
