Nürburgring Nordschleife - Love or Hate?

It's not a great track for on-line racing as there aren't really any passing places if the field is equally matched in skill and car.

But it's awesome for just running laps on.
 
HATE this track... its just too narrow, sub-standard drivers can keep you behind them easily and in trying to find a way round you end up putting a wheel on the grass and going into the wall...

You really haven't raced on Ze Schleife quite enough. There are plenty of passing opportunities scattered throughout the track. Some require you to take quite a big risk, but they're there.


My opinion on the track is that it is single handedly the greatest thing in GT5. I wouldn't play the game nearly as much if the Nurburgring wasn't there. My other favorite track would definitely have to be Circuit de la Sarthe ;-)
 
I have been driving on this track lately, and I am starting to love it. It is not boring unlike the other tracks, and you really need discipline to complete a lap without spinning out or hitting a wall. My knees do get sore after a few laps, it is mostly due to my seating arrangement with the wheel and all.

But Stotty is correct.
Nurb is not very good for online racing, it's good only for hot-lapping and enduros.

For a good online race on Nurb you need at least 10 laps (if the competition is serious, aka good & clean racers).

By the way I love Nurburgring, best track there is.

I disagree. It's not that narrow. You also don't need 10 laps. A good half an hour blast can be very satisfying. True, it's not an autobahn but still, plenty of passing opportunities. I know every single corner and crevice of the track exceptionally well.

I used to find this track extremely daunting. But, I knew it was a wonderful track.

Now, I find it's extreme. And, it's a masterpiece of a track.

For online racing 2 to 3 laps is great.

Hate it most of the time. Maybe once in a very long while I will be it the right frame of mind for it but usually it just stresses me out. That said I absolutely LOVE when I put together a good lap on it and beat a whole field of competitors. But mostly I hate it.

Are you always using a higher powered car? Something over 300hp or so.
 
Never been online - on my PS3, anyway! So don't really know the kind of mayhem that takes place on this monster of all tracks.
This is one of my staple tracks, though. Have to drive the Ring at least once a day, usually with a different car.
And, yes . . . I do hope to do it IRL one day.

OCD - sometimes I drive a car around it keeping to a speed of around 10 mph, diligently examining every inch of the scenary.

👍 That's pretty cool. I'd rather drive an avg. speed limit, though. So like 40 miles an hour. I will try it.

A truly great track. My race buddies and I have enjoyed some epic duels around here. It features almost every week we race, usually the last of the evening.

There are other tracks in the game that are as technical, but this is the Grandaddy. From start to finish you're complete attention is required. It can be hugely frustrating and yet immensely rewarding.

I hated this track in GT4, the AMG Challenge in GT5 forced me to realise just how good it really is. If you disliked this course before, then at least Silver the Challenge, it'll change your mind. Having to convince myself that I could drive that manky old Merc through some of those sections without lifting off was a revelation.

You should see me now in a 400bhp 4WD production car, 🤬 it, you should see me in my RKM Civic Turbo around there..!! :mad:

Oh, my hatred towards Nordshleife is endless. To put things straight from the start:
I don't know how cool is NN in real life. That's why i judge its digital version and its value in _game_ , not real life.
Upside:
Good looking asphalt. Really! The One good looking in game.
Non repetitive aspect of it.
Nice level of intensity.
Downside:
ITS TOO LONG. Simple as that. 90% of my races there was decided from first 10 corners.
Everything aside from esphalt is looking crappy. Again, in real life all that matters - track. But its a game and looking at claustrophobic corridor all the time really isn't my thing. Trees are horrible.
Online NN is a mess. People ramming you, pushing u towards grass and all that! Track is too narrow for ONLINE in this GAME.
Overused. Cmon, why u need to play same track over and over? Why nobody want to play Suzuka? Its hard, fast and its ok for online.
Too much attention towards it from game itself. Why can't we learn other tracks as we learn NN in AMG special? Id like to recieve same attitude to Laguna Seca or Suzuka(Oh god i adore it).

And yes, i don't care how important NN in real life. Its a game. And playing long and tedious races is not my idea of fun. And u guys know it too. Becouse nobody likes Endurance.

You lost me. You say it's intense. That's one of the best reasons why I love this track. How many other tracks have that same quality? Fun is good, but satisfaction is better for a "game" like this.
 
It is amazing! The best thing you can do in GT5 no doubt.
 
Dunno man, but a lot of tracks\challanges are intense for me, when you have proper car. Rally stuff, etc. Vettel is intense in the same way. I just get enough of intensity very soon.
 
Love . If I was granted one wish it would be to take my mustang to Germany . Or have a 1985 gt 302 premium on Gran Turismo.
 
It's absolutely staggering track. It truly has deserved it's world's most dangerous motor track title. It isn't short, so you can drive around it more often.
There is lots of different types of corners, what makes the track interesting while it has a lot of height differences. It is nearly impossible to drive it many times in a row without crashing in a very powerful car.And it has different variants like Type V and 24H.

Although it is my second favorite track, it still kicks ***!
 
It's one of the better tracks in GT5, It's overused online though which makes it repetitive and easy to get bored of.
 
I love it. Now that I learned how to drive it, it's even better :)
And online, yes it's used a lot, but I haven't got bored yet. And it's really beautiful in sunsets and sunrises.
 
The track can be a great place for professional driving practices, but it can be a pain sometimes when racing at the place in Gran Turismo. I was always nervous when driving a complete lap for the IA-15 License test in Gran Turismo 4, just managing to get at least bronze.
I don't hate it nor love it, I will stick with neutral.

LOL! Yup! Actually more than a couple of hours at times: I stop, sometimes back up to check a signboard or patch of graffiti, or even just park on the side of the road to figure out if there is a way to 'break out'.
Remember the 'Cote d'Azure' glitch in GT4 that allowed drivers to break out through the wall just after the tunnel, and then go cruising around the docks? I never could get that right, (still trying on occasion), but wish I could. Kaz and his team (IMHO) place these 'easter eggs' around the program just to keep us sniffing around, I think. Like the music at GT Auto (Scott Joplin's ragtime "Entertainer" which was also the theme music for the movie "The Sting." Hilarious. I always feel like there is a Sting Operation on when I go in there for an engine overhaul.
I don't do the two hour trip everyday, though, but I do take a couple of hot laps trying to reach that elusive 6 and a half min mark.
When I do a longer drive my family members would come around and ask:
"Do you have a flat?'
"No....."
"Your car is broken?"
"Um . . . no. Leave me alone."
They usually go away making me feel totally eccentric.
Thanks for the thumbs up. Now I feel a lot less eccentric! :) Yeah, the 40 - 60 mph cruise is a relaxing drive, too.
Try a Nascar Stock car. And of course, the classic Volkswagen Beetle.
Have your GF sit beside you while you drive.

Actually i watched the 599xx lap on youtube, it looks extremely bumpy (in real life) and you can see how bumpy some of the corners if you brake hard. But thats what makes it interesting.

I assume there are a lot of people who have done the suzuka 1000 but not the 24hr nurb because of time, and the 6.5 hrs in the rain (astra dtm car) at suzuka is just crazy and not fun after the first 20 mins, but i agree with you on laguna seca, it's extremely fun to me, it and nurb, are among my favorites
 
Love love love! I've been racing this track since the day GT4 came out, and I don't race a car without giving it at least 6 miles on the ring in GT5. I think I know every turn, bump and breaking point except two, which I have never been able to get to grips with. I need more practise!!
 
Completely love it. It's a track that you can always get better at, where you can always push the envelope of your own abilities, rather than whatever game's physics model.

I often watch Derek Bell's Porsche 956 lap and try to nail it like he does, even though he's going slow (!):
