Nürburgring Nordschleife - Love or Hate?

I love to hate it and I hate to love it...
 
What's not to love, it literally puts to the test every single driving aspect of a car, from tight tight cornering to top speed.
 
Love it. My favorite track of all time. I almost never get tired of taking cars from 100 - 700 hp around it just for the experience.
 
Hated it in GT4 but now I have a wheel, boy what an awesome track.

Have to have at least 3 laps with one of the German Touring cars every day or I feel bad.

I use to just be neutral at this track.
When I tried Mission 34 in GT4 (after countless attempts, I still lost by 0.4 seconds :( ) I loved it half, half love (?)
During and after getting Gold in the AMG Driving Academy Special Events, I really started to love the Nurburgring, really appreciate it.
Before I use to just keep crashing, but now I understand why it's such a great track.

Hated the track in GT4, and at the beginning of GT5, now I just love it.

I AGREE! I thought it would suck but not only did the car drive WAY better than I thought but the race itself was REALLY fun! :) Pretty quick lap times too.
 
I love the 'Ring *and* hate the 'Ring.

I love it for its beauty. I love it for its technical challenge. I love it for its history. I love it for how I would de-stress back in GT4 days by hopping in my race-tuned E-type and running a couple hours at about 80% there with the soundtrack set to infinite loop Pachelbel's Canon (which matched up *really* well to my pace in relaxation mode with that car). I love it for being the greatest race track in the world. I love it for being the ultimate test of man *and* machine.

I hate it for biting me hard when I try pushing to make a pass in the late stages of a race there. I hate it for nearly killing Niki Lauda. But most of all, I hate it for my not being able to get that last ^(@%&*@# second to get gold on any of the AMG Academy tests!

Still, more love than hate...
 
Love because it is a long, challenging and well detailed track, hate because it is over used online. Still, my love to hate ratio is 60:40, but I voted for neutral.
 
Love. First thing I do when I buy a car is take it for a lap here, and then usually Monza. Nothing beats the ring, you dont even have to go all out to really enjoy it.
 
Looooove if I`m using my wheel, neutral with a pad. It`s my favourite track by far, suzuka being my second most beloved one.

to me it depends on the car im using

if its a slow to med speed car its a great track

but once you get into like a zonda or the like its too effing narrow the road is bumpy as hell and half the time im off the track

this is mostly to do with the tracks age when it was made a "racing" car reached maybe 120mph max and that was insanely fast so the narro road and all its bumps werent an issue

but now in modern times where cars hit over 200mph the track shows its age and flaws the road surface is far too uneven the track itself is too narrow to pass in most areas and at thoes speeds a fraction of a second mistake will put you in the grass or gravel on the side

so im neutral id guess tho id change that to love if it had a smooth tarmac and was about 1/2 more wide than it is now

That's the fun of it all ! The risk that you might crash and die, and that feeling you get when you're thinking "holy * i'm going way too fast!!" !! You get that surge of adrenaline, even when you're playing in a video game. However, the above cannot apply in real life .

Still, Love it.

P.S : That's my opinion, I'm not going to force you to follow it, or agree to it :p .
 
There should have been a poll option for "It's just to hard"..

Something tells me that the "hate" and "neutral" options would have gotten less votes.

Personally I think the Ring is the greatest track in the world, and GT5 has nailed it better then any other titel has.

I love it, went there in real life and it's awesome.

There's too many online lobby with racing on it tho. I wish people would use more tracks and not only Nurb. Dont get me wrong I love to race on it but trackdays or stuff like that kinda sucks on it because if an idiot decide to not let you pass or smash you he just waste 15-16mn of your life (outside pit lap and the time attack lap). So yeah.
 
Can love it and hate it ....

Get the right car and right race and its just still an awesome piece of tarmac but it can be a nightmare ....

I found the Nascar special event horrid (only 2 laps at least) just as i couldn't find a setup i liked

Switch to the German touring car extreme race with the AMG Evo DTM car and its just joyful

Only started racing the GT series with GT5-P and now with GT5 of course.
When I first saw and tried the track I hated it. That was mostly because my skills sucked so bad on the standard controller, almost all of my game play over the years has been on the PC platform. But now after gaining a little experience on PS3 games and getting a Driving Force GT for Christmas this has turned into one of my favorite tracks.
 
Loved it in gt4 love it more now, and gt4 was the first game i had driven it in. And was awed by it even then when i had to figure out each turn of the track crashed me car more times than i could count but when did manage a clean just over min lap in my saleen s7 fully upgraded it was like jump up n down a scream victory after weeks and weeks of work on that track.
 
Pure unconditional love.
If the game was only Nordschleife + 1000 cars I'd be happy.

In fact, I'd be happy if it was only Nordschleife + McLaren F1.
 
With the FGT in the rain around this track though ,is down right scary .

I was sweating after 3 laps trying to stay in the lead .
 
After doing the Nurb 4 hour endurance in the 787B I gained a whole new respect for this track, and a much better understanding of it. Just became one of my favorites. :D

The only corner I'm really having trouble with now it Schwedenkreuz... I can't seem to get the braking distance right, and the little bump in the turn throws me off the track and into a bad place going into Aremberg... any tips?

It is a very difficult corner, the line between losing several seconds taking it slowly and going off is razor thin. Depending on the car I've found the real trick is to not be afraid to keep on the power to stay on the track. In something like the GTR you late brake up to it and if you don't keep your foot in it to use the cars power to keep traction round it it just slides off.

I thought about the same thing for different tracks, but that'd be way too many topics about close to the same thing... I don't know though. :crazy:

Nurburgring is such a popular track with so much to talk about and many people have strong opinions about it, so I figured this thread would (and obviously has) really taken off.

Hated it on prior GT games, and I blame that on using a controller.

The G27 has made me appreciate and even enjoy it. 👍
 
I love this track. Its not so much a race track but an exceptional piece of country road. Need more tracks like this, like the 'best driving roads' they had on top gear. Much prefer these technical stretches of road compared to the flat race tracks.
