On a scale of 1-10 I would give Gran Turismo 5 a . . .

The only things that really killed GT for me is the offline career and how GT5 B-spec is implemented. It seemed like the career was a last minute thought. B-spec could at least have different events. Instead they are exact copies of its A-spec, but with more laps. A-spec is lacking so many things from past GTs, especially GT3. This is dissapointing, considering the fact that they have so many features in GT5 like rally, kart, nascar, weather, etc. Even mechanical damage isn't used in offline, career races! I expected the extreme races to at least have it, as well as tire wear. Instead, extreme was nothing more than another set of race with possibly more laps.

Everything else is great for me. I love the online and community features. The ability to drive 900 plus cars will always be a pleasure to me. Graphics (overall) are great. The premiums look good (perhaps too good). Framerate is solid at most times.

Also, I think its safe to say that GT5 is not so much a grind anymore. So really, that can't be taken into the argument anymore.

That said, by GT's standard, this game gets a 8.5 from me. While it may have dropped some things from past GTs that we liked, it does improve considerably in a lot of other categories. However, by driving/racing games' standard in general, it's a 9.5 imo.

I just don't believe how some of you could say as low as 5 and 7 saying you're "generous." Tough community... my goodness. Some of you guys would make horrible critics, particulary because the reasonings doesn't level to what is being said and given. It just hurts to see one or two reasons that's bad about the game resulting in a devasting 50% of the game's rating. It's like completely ignoring the positives, and all the good things that PD have put extra time and effort to make the game at least a bit enjoyable.

I voted 7.8-8.0 and thats being generous. The standard cars truly ruined this game for me. How can you have a simulation game to simulate driving, without having an interior view looking through the windshield???!! :ouch:
How much of your interior (and how many steering wheels) do you see when driving a real car? 💡
Every single one and thats coming from someone with at least 10 years of real life road track racing and hundreds of videos to back it up. Every single car I have driven in real life....wait for it........ I LOOK OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD while I am driving. To simulate real driving, I need to at least be LOOKING OUT THE WINDSHIELD!!!! I can only do that with 20% of the cars in GT5 (premium). Bumper cam or hood view or 3rd person view is not simulation driving. Unless you are car surfing.💡

Exactly. You're looking out of your windshield. When you look out of your windshield you don't see your glove compartment.
The so called "bumper cam" is actually not at bumper level but at eye level.
But to each his own.

So by your ridiculous theory that means we shouldnt have gauges. Because apparently in your special world you dont drive looking through the windshield. You magically only see the road in front of you and nothing else. Please tell me you are at least old enough to drive. Because your replies have convinced me otherwise. Anyone saying they dont see the interior of their car or the steering wheel or the gauges while they drive, must to be driving a car in real life. :dunce: There is no way to defend a simulation game that does not simulate driving a car from inside with at least some way to look through or out of the windshield. :dunce: Even the PSP had an interior view that allowed you to look through the windshield and these cars are imported directly from the PSP. So what happened to the interior view or at least a windshield???? :dunce:

I give it a 9 because it's not perfect but I'm enjoying it so much that I've clocked up 76 hours on GT5 so far and loving it. Yes I've actually counted the hours I've put into GT5.

I went with a 7-7.5 in it's current state. I still feel it's behind forza 3 in a few very important areas.

The fact that you cant crash in forza without it damaging your car and forcing you to lose the race automatically makes it a better game. It's more realistic. In GT5 I can smash into a wall doing 150 and still win, which is a joke. The fact that it says "simulator" on the cover is a crime.

Another issue I have is in career mode, how they let me race more powerful cars than my AI opponents. Forza uses a class system, and it works to keep every race competitive. I hate playing A-spec because I am constantly blowing the AI out in every race. It's not fun at all.

IVe got a lot more issues with GT5 than just this, but those 2 are game breakers for me.

I'd give it a 9 as the only things I would change is to add a lot more premium cars, more tracks and more championships in A-Spec and add an online-leader board for time-trials

If GT5 had the things you listed I'd give it a 9-10 too. But it doesn't. Your first 3 wants is exactly what I wanted in GT5. Didn't get it. Therefore its impossible for me to rate higher than the 7-7.5 I gave it. Your rating is based on what it could be. Not what it is now. It appears that most of you all are confusing what it is now with what it could be. IF they give us all this, then we can revote in the future

If you saying all the game needs is this, it needs that, your rating in inaccurate if you gave it an A rating. A perfect game for most of us is a game that delivered your basic needs.

6.8 because look at my sig. If a-spec wasn't such a pathetic joke, and was AT LEAST as big as GT4, I would give it an 8.5.

GT5 has so much potential, but Kaz and PD would rather work on stupid stuff than give us a proper career mode.

Same here. I think PD/Sony tried too hard to introduce advancements, that they failed to stick with the formula that worked and advance on that formula. They tried to write a new book in a way.

i'm still stuck around a five on this game. i've played every gt since 1 and it just seems like the series kind of peaked at gt4.

the car list is my biggest hangup. too many filler cars. i enjoy video games to do things i can't in real life. there are some welcome additions in gt5's lineup (ferrari, bugatti, lambo etc.) but for the most part all the other vehicles don't have my interest. i don't lay awake at night dreaming about what its like to drive a '92 honda civic.

i've been really thinking lately at 28 years old maybe i've just outgrown the series.
as a DRIVING Sim. this game is awesome.
just wish it was more racing oriented. like i said maybe i'm getting to old but i can simulate driving an ordinary car anytime i want by going outside, getting in my forester and driving it.

if gt6 has the "less is more" approach on its car list i'll be a lot happier. 1031 cars in gt5 isn't that impressive to me when there only probably about 331 that excite me.

6.5.

It looks amazing.
Premium Cars are incredible.
It drives great.

That's it.

-No fun championships.
-Some stupid Endurance races (9h at Tsukuba?? WTF?).
-16 cars grid is uselss when AI fills it with just 3 different model but 5 of each and only one is a premium.
-800 Std cars that look like they were done 5 years ago.
-No FF or Rewind in replay. Good luck catching that backfire..
-Stupid Paint model.
-17 cars can be RM'd only. Out of those a Golf and some ****** Acura.WTF!
-Gazzillions of Skylines, Miatas, RX7s + Prius, Midgets cars but One Maserati? No Premium Ruf?
Etc...

Overall ranking from me is at a 6 until AI is changed. It is sad that in a race against AI all you need to do to beat them is get along side them and watch them get on the brakes and refuse to get back in the gas until you move away from . Thanks PD that is just too much of a challenge to over come.

I have the same opinion. TOO MUCH potential wasted.
I remember my reaction, for example, with the "super gt" series.. "what? 3 f... race? where's my championship?"
The thing is.. we're not talking about incredible-impossible stuff... just more event, where's the problem? "festa del cavallino" JUST ONE SINGLE RACE LOL embarassing.

If you can't resist taking more powerful cars against the competition, that says more about you than it does GT5...

I'm still enjoying it because I have so many cars now, seeing as I don't swallow my tongue at the Standards like some of you, that I have a ridiculous number of choices available for almost every race. It's a great deal of fun to figure out which cars work best, and then going round and round various races with them.

So you're saying it's good game design to leave it up to the player to find a challenge in the game? Come on. I want to win the races, I want the money and the XP, so if they are going to let me enter with an overpowered car then I will to get what I want, but I ALSO want a challenge, I want the game to force that on me. Good games do that. Forza does it, worked fine there.

Yeah the difficulty level and ai all go into the category of "proper career mode"..

Everything we need is there already. All PD need to do is 30 days of programing and build a "C-Spec" or something like that with a proper career mode in it and throw it into GT5.

It would be ten thousand times easier and quicker than making all the tracks and cars and everything that took 6 years.. Just put some good races and championships together for us to "play through" like GT1, GT2, GT3, and GT4 had. WTF

I get annoyed just thinking about how bad Kaz and PD screwed up, and ripped us off and ripped themselves off.

They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

They ran a marathon and quit 3 feet before the finish.

They went 23 hours and 59 seconds in 1st place in a 24hr race and then quit.

GT5 could so easily be epic. As it is? It's a fun game with amazing potential that most people will get sick of after a few months. It's freaking sad. Oh well it's "just a game"..

I gave a score of 8.5-9. The amount of cars and content is amazing. Online play course maker, all the car info, the detail into the tracks etc. it's very impressive. Plus they've really kept on the ball with the updates that provide for Seasonal Events to make up for the fairly lacking amount of A-spec races. Towards the end it definitely becomes a grind to accumulate the remaining cars and get to level 40 though. To me, that is far outweighed by the massive playground they've basically created for me to have fun with the 850+ cars I've accumulated up to this point. It definitely needs more polish but I don't mind.

To me it's a solid 9 and I've clearly got my money worth out of it. The difficulty is average for a console game. There are a lot other consoles game I've play that is easier to beat. It has a lot of content and now can be run in multi-screen and in 3D as well.

The flaw with interior view is (maybe 3D helps) you tell your eyes what you want to see and what to ignore IRL. For example if a car has an antenna sticking up in the middle of my view my eyes will look through the antenna. In cockpit view ion a game I see a solid antenna directly in my view which is annoying. It's the same if a bug splash on the windshield, I will look through the bug since I'm not interested looking at a bug while driving.

I dont really have a score for it, but here is my piece.

The cars look great, they drive great and there is a ton of them

The AI is bad

The tuning is the same as its been since GT1

Im tired of just going out and just running each race.

It was a first day buy for me and I played it for about 2 weeks and its sitting on the shelf now collecting dust.

So what kind of rating do you think I would give it

This game is seriously flawed and honestly has gotten boring.

I wonder what the trade in values for it are, maybe ill pick it up again when tis 20 dollars

The GTPlanet demographic is in no way representative of anything but GT fans (from the polls I'd say its representative of rabid little fangirls). But 250+ votes are 8+. This is simply not an 8 game. 8 signifies Very Good or good. Its simply not a good game. Its a "Good Enough Game" from the sales and this threads ratings, Kaz really did "just enough" to coast into our wallets and please the rabid little fangirls.

As a GT fan, i have to register my displeasure with this latest "Good Enough" iteration of this amazing, but marred franchise.

It's about field of view and viewing angles. Of course you can see the gauges when driving, but you need to lower and refocus your eyes.
When playing GT even a large screen will cover an angle of only about 15°. So in cockpit view the whole interior is always in plain view and also at the same distance as the outside world.
There have to be tradeoffs to create a convincing representation of a 3D world on a 2D screen. Not showing the rest of the car is one too, but to me it's the better one.

I'm glad to see that most people are happy with the game now. I honestly think seeing all the thread around the forum that more people would hate the game but it seems that no it's just whiner that try to get attention from people.

Yeah GT5 is perfect. Anyone who says otherwise is a whiner, I agree. You are so smart, thank you for pointing this out to me.

Did I ever mention perfect, I've just said it was a good game. Good =/= perfect as far as I know.

I guess all those "whiners" aren't just whiners as you call them then because they are discussing faults with a game you just admitted is not perfect, therefore has faults.

Oh and your theory that those same whiners are "just trying to get attention" as you put it is also false because they have, admitted by you, a reason to discuss GT5's faults.

So your initial post is false, and you admit it. I agree. You are smart, convincing me to agree with you all the time.

8.5-9.0 Great game which keeps getting better, I think the people giving it low scores should go out and try a lot of other games as there are a lot worse than GT5 out there for the same money, not that GT5 is bad at all.

It is worth the money and it is a good game. If I had never heard of Gran Turismo before and hadn't played though GT1, GT2, GT3, and GT4 I would give GT5 a higher score (but not that much). I know what it could and should be so I expect more from it, as do many others.

4 for me

I was expecting something different. I should have gone iRacing instead

Fair point, imo this is the problem with sequels they are expected to better their predecessors and it doesn't always happen. I have owned all of the previous titles and if I'm honest GT4 didn't do a lot for me when it came out as the physics in that one were not up to scratch.

This is where it's at for me and GT5 nails it in this aspect, now if we had GT5's physics and graphics in GT4's game I don't think there would be much to complain about, having said that though it might end up being as big if not bigger than GT4 eventually but we will see.

I gave it 7.

1.) Based on the fact GT5 should not have any standard cars in it.

2.) There's not enough to do in the game if you're not in the mood to always race. I want to design car liveries and car tunings and sell them online to friends and GTP players etc.

3.) I want to participate in championships with friends - so where are the qualifying sessions and multiple race championships with accumulating point. Glaring omissions.

I think this is true with most game forums. Usually the complainers and fault-finders are in a small minority while the majority of gamers are satisfied with the game or at least move on to something else.
Some of the complaints I've seen is GT5 is not like some other game which GT series has never been about. For example car liveries, I'm not surprised at all this is not in the game since GT series has never been about painting up your car no more than having cops chase you and ramming you off the road. The series has always been about cars... the kind you see driving off the dealership. PD loves cars and the details of the interiors of these cars show it. If I want to paint up my car or have cops chasing me I simply play a racing game that has those options.
