They both have their strong points and weak points that could be argued until the end of time.Whats your preference.I am a fan of both, however I may lean on the drag race side for this reason (again personal reasoning).

1. reaction time, who can catch the other guy sleeping at the light ?
2. grabbing traction, being able to control wheel spin, getting it going quickly
while the other guy is struggling to hook up.
3. massive horsepower and torque , who does not like to see a wheel stand
from a standing stop ?
4. being able to control all of the horsepower and torque , yet keep it in a
straight line
just a few reasons, what do you prefer and why ?

Road racing. You can still get everything you describe at the takeoff, then you have to deal with even more skill throughout the rest of the race.

Road Racing FTW,

In NFS:PS i could have hung myself and had more fun than draging, but GT drag was more fun, but only for a few minutes this its back to the track for some real fun.

im going to agree with you on this one lennon, i think that drag racing would be better. also having the option between 1/4 and 1/8 mile i think would better. GT5P has been mosty about being able to have the a bility to control your car, lets pretty much elliminate the steering aspect and go for straight and fast!!!

If I have to pick one for Gran Turismo it's definitely road racing, but I'm a huge fan of drag racing and would love if PD finally adds a complete drag racing mode in GT5!

BTW you should check THIS THREAD out..

I like them both as well, I do lean a little tward drag raceing as its the weekend hobby for me :D And for those of you that think its easy just hit the gas, its anything but. The big boys have so much power the rear is literally trying to pass the front and you have to keep it in line not to mention John Force said he cant see till 1/8 mile because of the G-forces.

Road racing, as it involves more than just car control (e.g. tactics) to get good results.

Road racing no doubt, though I would like GT5's drag racing aspect to be improved (I want drag tyres) as I like to have some fun on the strip from time to time.

Is this seriously a question?!?!?!?

I'm sure you will find me, and the entire forums biased to road racing. I drag raced before and it gets boring fast, there is nothing like trying to master a coarse.

In previous games they've included a drag-style track which you can use to test your launch and acceleration but I think that's about as much as I'd want to do with it.

I like chucking the car round corners, way too much to want to completely eliminate that from the game. So the back end on a dragster wants to step out? Fine - so does the back end on a Stock Corvette when you're trying to come out of a hairpin. So essentially drag racing is the same deal but without the hairpin? You're going to have a seriously hard sell on your hands trying to convince me it's the way forward.

I would opt for road racing. Having to take time to learn a track to the best of your ability, but adding drag racing into GT5 would be an extra element that would be fun to do.

Road racing.

Anyone remember the road courses in the original need for speed? (before they raped the 'need for speed' franchise)

I remember racing countless hours in the Corvette ZR-1 on the point to point roads in NFS 1 (the best NFS IMO)

Multiplayer drag racing seems a bit pointless to me, I'd probably only use a drag strip to fine tune cars for good starting in proper races, however there is clearly more than a few people that would enjoy having it in GT, so why not give it to 'em... after all how hard can it be to add a track that is just a straight piece of road?

+1 👍

It'll probably be in the license qualifiers anyroad. They usually throw in a couple of - drive in a straight line then stop inside the box - tests anyway.

Road racing.
I recommend a poll to give a good impression of where this will head, lol. 👍

I prefer road racing..
But I'm looking forward to having GT5 maybe with something like the Las Vegas strip in GT4

Road racing has always been my favorite style of racing but I would love it if PD included some form of drag racing. To me, drag racing gets really boring in a standalone game but if they included it with GT, it would be great. GT4 was a good start and if they added a 2P option, it would be good enough for me. With GT having ralley and now drifting, I don't see why they wouldn't keep drag racing in some form.

I guess another point towards drag racing would be this :
depending on classification of car in the race , you only have 4.5 seconds (top fuel , and funny car) up to lets say 15 seconds ( stock eliminator)to get everything right , you do not have the opportunity of several laps to come back , you get a 1/4 mile of track and thats it , gotta be dead on , unless competitor red lights.
Point towards road racing :
you have to be masterful at being able to go left, right, accelerate, decelerate, braking points, very trying.
Both are excellent forms of racing, both require skill from beyond to be considered great.
Looks like there are 3 drag votes , many road votes , I think I see where this one is going. Good answers guys / girls ? LOL

road racing ftw, but trying to launch a 700+ WHP EVO with a triple disk clutch with the antilag setting on a motech is not that easy.
