Presented, and then Scrapped (Or not?)

By the logic I'm seeing here, you should be able to play as a businesswoman with a machine gun in CoD Black Ops because it appeared in a commercial.

Trailers and demos aren't representative of the final product, this has been a fact for as long as trailers and demos have existed.

I agree... Kaz goes down as a blagger and a conman in my books, just as I read this im just bored with GT5, its an amazing drive... but there is way too many flaws.

Its just like Walkers showing you a full packet a crisps on the telly and scrapping half of the contents its not really nice because it causes the hype by not showing the true contents

Are you telling me you've encountered a full packet of Walkers crisps at some point!? :sly:

Aren't there cut-scenes of the rally events in Grand Tour? It's of the podium start line. Go check it out.

Trailers rarely represent any game they're made for accurately, especially ones made years before the game is actually released. It's a valid point when people say they shouldn't put things in trailers if they're not going to be in the game but the fact is we don't know if the intention was to include these things at the time. There's a video available from the Playstation store on the making of Heavy Rain which shows a lot of the game that was made and either changed or cut completely for various reasons before it's release, all things that could easily have been shown in a trailer a year before when the intention was there to include them. Unfortunately these things happen with most games.

Haha my name is not Gary Lineker :p, But I have to admit the OP does have a point I mean why show something that looks like its in the game if its not like the however many cars in a photo at the TGTT ?

I don't want to cut the crap out of what you say Stephen, because I really have no idea..honestly.
But in my opinion, Sony/PD..who ever, by showing these early "test shots" deliberately set out to deceive. 👎
Now, no one, not even me..know one way or the other, whether or not, PD had originally intended such content to be included..fair point.
But how the blazes did these snippets of footage escape PD's grasp and make their way to the net..? Poor security ?
If such material was known "not to be included", why the heck haven't PD tried to stop it.?

Not having a go at you directly mate, my apologies if it come across like that. ;)

Do you have any proof to substantiate that claim? I'm guessing you don't, beyond the footage appearing in trailers and not featuring in the game. The problem with the post is that you're basically accusing somebody of wrongdoing without any kind of evidence to back up what you say. The truth is that neither you nor I nor anybody else on this forum can say with any degree of certainty what the original intentions were. This is a problem, because it could very well prove to be libellous. I'd suggest you refrain from making these claims in the future, unless you have solid evidence to back up your accusations. If you don't, I'll delete any of your posts on sight, and further moderator action may be required. I'm not trying to stamp out your opinion here, but make you aware that if you're going to say something like this, you'd better be willing to back it up without using adverb ridden-qualifiers to avoid committing yourself to the truth of what your are saying.

My opinion is that we're eventually going to see the missing content slowly patch after patch (or by DLC) or worse, held up for GT6. I feel that PD/Sony want to artificially keep the game "fresh" by supplying planned updates as times goes, depending probably on sales and the interest the game is generating at a given moment.

Actually IMO I feel they haven't got a final build of the game they wanted in time for release. The release was forced upon them due to public outcry.

There probably is a final build somewhere, but we may or may not see it, now that they have already sold us a game, and are patching it out of good karma...

It's very possible they considered including these things in the game, but for whatever reason: Time/Money/Space/Licensing, they didn't.

Remember, we've been told that they had to leave a lot on the floor with GT5. It's hopeful that some of these things will be patched in with future updates, but I won't hold my breath.

And, come on... 99% of the games on the market are marketed with intro movie trailers and nothing more. Marketing is always about putting your best foot forward. So, for once, GT is better in the trailers than in reality. It's annoying, but not entirely out of sync with the rest of the industry.

There is never a final build with Kaz at the helms. :grumpy:

You forgot about the NAPA NASCAR being scrapped.

You forgot about the NAPA NASCAR being scrapped.

I mentioned that when I said all the NASCAR cars in the E3 09 Trailer never made it to GT5. Therefore, I covered the NAPA car.

Also, my first post has been updated with more things PD seemed to have scrapped.

How many times do you see leaked footage from yet to be released games on the internet? A lot. How do they get there? I've no idea at all to be perfectly honest.

My opinion is that if these trailers were released by Sony/PD 2 or 3 months before GT5 was hitting the shelves then I'd say yes, they've deliberately decieved people because they would know fine well the things shown wouldn't be in the game. The fact that the trailers are from a year ago and as far back as 3 years would suggest that PD didn't know for definite if they would be included. It could simply be that they did make the things shown and weren't happy with the finished article.

Regarding the 900 degree wheel animation ... you would have to assume that PD were never happy with the final aesthetic result, they even mention it needs refining in the video posted.

Personally I think it looked fine - certainly a lot more realistic than we currently have!

You forgot the
1. Animated GT5 Prologue (before race) pit-stops were not in GT5...
2. Full-motion track videos are not in GT5...
3. Intro movie in GT5 was first time ever runs at 30 fps (not 60) - what a shame...
4. GT Citroen runs at London track@night on its trailer...
5. Wind tunnel in FT-86 trailer...

Also entire race with 16 premium cars in GT5P loads FASTER than GT-Auto menu in GT5...WTF?

That just what I remember.

I'm pretty sure this has already been covered somewhere.

That's what the search function is for. Please use it.

Unless I misunderstood your first post interludes, you were accusing the OP of starting a topic that is adequately covered elsewhere. I have not seen any threads that are very similar to this topic, so I challenged you to produce a link to such a thread as evidence of your insinuation, and you respond that I should use the search function to find your evidence for you?
Forgive me, but that doesn't make much sense. I did not bring up the issue, therefore it should be obvious that I have no interest in using the search function to find another thread covering the same topic as this one does. I am already following this one, my only 'interest' in a link was for you to produce one to back up your statement.

Unless I misunderstood your original statement.

Sam48 you forgot the 900 degrees steering animation. We could see it with chase cam in GT HD concept and in cockpit view in one or two old videos of GT5 Prologue's demo.
I'm pretty sure that was been explained by Kaz that 900 degree animations were left out because PD was having a lot of trouble getting them to work right.

One thing I've noticed that isn't trailer related but was paraded around a lot in marketing materials and isn't in the final game (as recently as September, in fact) is the 18 Megapixel Photomode shots (supposedly at 5760x3240). The final game, however, only allows saving up 1920x1080.

Maybe the added cost of the sensor wasn't worth bundling it into the game? Or it wouldn't fit into a camera body small enough for the little AI Elves who carry the camera around the track to carry?

Possibly, though, this could be due to the fact that they haven't finished modelling all the cars to "Premium" spec. It's annoying to get that "too close" message when you try to zoom in on Standard cars.

Frankly, I'm flabbergasted by the dynamic range available for Photo-mode... if they built a camera this good in real-life, a lot of people would be lined up to buy one...

Apex says (drifting topic): never cross your hands! I mean ability not crossing them is a more advanced for racing. (hands are always on the wheel)

Very wrong. Photo-mode allows you to save anything between 1920x1080 up to 7680x4320 resolution. It's depended on location. All photo-mode locations allow minimum of 3840x2160.

Edited: Oops!Sorry - 4x magnification was scrapped...Only 3840x2160 for now.(but I'm sure it was there before patch)

This is very interesting! I think the NASCAR n WRC intros would be amazing, the intro in the grand tour event really makes that event feel special. Wish they all had intros and outros.

I would guess most of this stuff will appear as dlc/patches over the coming years!

Photomode. Not Photo Travel. I know Photo Travel allows you to increase the image size (though not to 18 megapixels either, as you admit). I haven't seen a single track/car combination that allows you to increase that photo size at all in Photomode. Fair enough if there is one, but I haven't found it, and there were 18 MP Photomode pictures frequently spliced in with the Photo Travel marketing stuff as well (and none of it implied that it would be so limited if there is some track that allows magnification). Including the batch released at the end of September.

Agreed! 👍

Ok, I haven't read the whole thread but this is a very disturbing yet fascinating topic...

As a game developer for nearly 18 years this appears like a game that never had any serious intention of shipping but was rather enjoying its regal status and having LOTS of fun with R&D... I don't mean to be brash but I have seen games where they spent as much time pulling incomplete and broken "could have been cool features" out as they did building the core game...

There is a lot more in those videos you didn't even call out like texture quality and track surface quality, etc. And I remember that car coming off the truck video and thought that was going to be for every car!!! :/ But it does appear clear like this was an "open source" project... Kaz's personal toy and lacked any sort of formal management (always an issue when VP and up dable in day to day dev, often lacking the understanding of the ramifications of their "idea" and what it means to an actual worker in ear shot...)

This looks like the last six months where pulling stuff out and then stitching it back together... and even I knew not to follow this project until it was closer to an actual release... but still... this like GT 2 and GT 4 is a .5 version... at least its a predictable trend...

GT6 will be better... it has to, they have rested on their larals for too long and others are finally knocking at the door...
