Prize Cars in GT5

Why can't we just select the prize car we want and which colour for a select amount of Cr (if we don't want it random)?

I have an idea for a new carousel system.

Bring back the Carousel and have 4 cars all locked in the game that you can win. Now after you win the race, you get your prize money and 1 of the 4 cars at random. However, having completed and won the race, you also unlock all 4 cars in their respective showrooms. So you can then also buy the cars. Rather than having to redo the race minimum 4 times to get all the cars and even then you probably will end up with a double.

That works I think doesn't it?

I remember back in GT1 I thought that would be the case when I finally won the Copperhead. Head to the Dodge dealership... nope, still unpurchaseable.

PD really should adopt this policy you've mentioned. Once I've won a car, give me the chance to buy it if I want.

CAROUSEL FTW
It gives you replay value, and it's only for prize car collectors like me, you don't need to win everything to get 100%.

It's artificially added replay value, the racing game equivalent of RPG back-tracking. I shouldn't have to do a race 4 (or more) times!

replay value = online racing
screw the carousel...that was annoying, even with saving the race event and just redoing the last race in a series until you got the car you wanted...and endurance races...hell no

need to have 1 prize car per series, and let you pick which color you want on it or have the livery editor

now i like the sound of that, that along with an auction online car list.... the possibilities are endless i really want PD to implement stuff like this
Try out Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2 (PS2).
That has cars in the used car lot that do often have modifications done to them, such as suspension tuning and reinforcement.
I'd like to see the system resale value developed like in Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero - Do massive tuning work and spend a huge amount of money, and get back (if you choose to sell the car) the price of everything you did to it or more.
Red Text - Forza 3 has something similar to this, but most of the time it is for the highest power vehicles and ones that have 'cool' paint jobs (livery editor.)
I don't like it because you might have something like a replica GT40 (example) you painted and slaved over, and you could be outdone by some dude who has no concept of what might be considered cool by racing standards, instead making something like a Michael Jackson Tribute car.
BTW the carousel prize system was annoying as heck, as it most of the time (for me) didn't reward me with the car I wanted.👎

I like the elimination style carousel. I think there should be a scaled number of possible prize cars per the event 'size'

So the GT championship (or whatever it may be called) would have something like 10 cars on the wheel of fortune. Whichever car you actually do win is taken off the carousel so that the next time you beat it, there are only 9 cars. I think this would be a compelling reason to complete races over again but would eliminate the possible frustration of acquiring more copies of the same car. Then once you acquire all 10 cars the system could switch to something else, like specially modified versions (special paint [hello gold, chrome and CF cars! :P], special tuning, etc) of those cars that are unobtainable elsewhere. This might be likened to 'prestiging' like the call of duty system (or obtaining legendary status in read dead redemption)

Going back to tokyo extreme racer, there was a system in place that allowed you to do an engine swap (i4, v6, 2 rotor, inline six, v8 etc) after you had driven a ridiculous amount of miles in the car you wished to swap the engine...so that when you finally DID unlock the upgrade, it actually felt special. Unlike Forza where you just plop a new motor in. Realism (ala Forza in this case) isn't always the most compelling answer.

I want GT5 to be completely self-sufficient and engrossing OFFline. I hate online racing games. I play video games when I want to disassociate myself from the world...during this time listening to 12-15 year olds screaming at each other in shrill voices is not what I'm looking for.

All of this is irrelevant because the game is already finished, but heres hoping.

In GT4 I've kept every single prize car that I won the very first time I done that event. As for GT5, in my opinion they should give all Prize Cars a good re-sale value. Even for the cars that you buy, they should increase the Resale Value. I mean theres nothing worse than purchasing a vehicle for say 65,000Cr and spending X amount of credits on modifications, then only being able to sell the car for say 20,000 Cr. So you should get for a figure 40,000Cr instead of 20,000 Cr.

Factor in how many times you crashed the car and mileage put on a modified engine. That would depreciate it more, wouldn't it? :sly:

So you´d have to do the 24hrs of Le Mans at least 10 times to get all the cars? No thanks! One prize car is plenty enough. Just let us repaint it in a paintshop!

Ugh, if they adopted this I'd become one of those people who just downloads a save with all the prizes available. I don't want to have to be forced to drive the same series 10 times just to get the prize cars. Sure, it's eliminating the frustration of acquiring copies... by introducing the GT version of RPG grinding. One frustration for another? How is this progress?!

There are so many more options for PD to take in regards to prize cars, and one would assume that its one of the last details nailed down. They've still got about a month to work on the game, so I imagine they're figuring this whole thing out right now. It's one aspect we definitely won't know anything about until release, though...

Hmmm I do see your point. However I still think there should be special rewards that are very difficult to achieve. Maybe unlock special upgrades or paint schemes for cars after a certain amount of wins or miles or some other wild card car statistic (drift points)

Gran Turismo, above all other games is about the cars baby! Make them feel special, make them feel like our own. So I'm just imagining taking my first gen RX7 (car I have in real life by the way) and putting 2,000 in-game miles on it. If this is truly a favorite car, then this will not be a grind, because it would (seemingly) be a car that you would drive quite a bit. At the 2,000 mile marker, you unlock the option for a unique paint scheme (IMSA livery?) or engine swap (hello 13b-rew!) This would be a car that you wouldn't want to sell because it was special. I think a *bit* of RPG-ness would make the single player game more compelling, if it didn't come across as a grind, as you say.

I see what you're getting at, and it reminds me of the talk about trophies we had just yesterday in one of the other threads. My main issue with your suggestion is that these special rewards wouldn't be about actual difficulty so much as just forcing the player to invest a bunch of time. Achieving a certain number on my odometer requires no skill, meanwhile as an easy example, getting all gold on a license does.

First-gen RX-7? Nice! I used that car a ton in GT2, miss it plenty 👍

Yeah point taken. I do like the License tests but they aren't car specific. What difficult 'mission' could you accomplish with each and every car should you so choose? NFS shift had a skill-tracking feature where it would keep of track of all of the corners you had mastered. Maybe this could be implemented in some way? It would be awesome to be able to 'master' a car. Hell it could even be some unseen arbitrary calculation dependent on how well you drive the car, accounting for things like crashes and moments of lost control (such as a mid-drift spin), and off track excursions negatively affecting it, and smooth drifts, perfect apexes, and accident avoidance positively affecting it. It would sort of be a blend of iRacing's safety license, and NFS-shifts skill grades.

edit: Just thought of an idea. Going on the above:

What if you could both master cars and tracks (via the methods I described)
When you 'master' a track you could unlock some special (historic-themed) challenge there. Tiger Woods golf has a similar feature for its courses. For instance, if you 'master' Suzuka perhaps you could unlock a special time trial challenge with the NSX (a nod to Ayrton Senna) and if you beat it you unlock a special Mclaren MP4/4-livery NSX? THAT would be cool. [I would say put the actual historic times for you to try and beat, but GT5 would have to be extremely accurate for this to work. ]

Or say you master a particular car. At that point maybe a special championship for that car would open up? Or maybe a difficult time trial? All resulting in a special prize of some nature.

[^^ big rant...stream of consciousness going, sorry]

I think if they finally let us sort the garage it would help. And maybe in the background, behind the car, you could have assorted 'trophies' for various accomplishments with cars. For example, you could have a 'patch' for every race track driven and raced at. Then (not unlike volvo emblems of the same nature) you could get mileage emblems. It wouldn't be so much of a requirement, but just a reminder of things you have done in particular cars. That's not so much skill, but it would reinforce which cars you like the most against the wash of others that you might not ever even drive.

I have only got GT4 in the past 6 months but I've found that by using the prize car from Isle of Capri rally to make money it's too easy to get the good cars and thus missing out on having to earn your way through the lesser cars.

I don't understand, I never have. It's easier to not make money than it is to make money. Just don't get or sell the good/valuable cars. And I should point out, to really make money, you need to race over and over again. You can't put the blame on the unlock system, it's the fault of the player if they make too much money.

In relation to the topic, at the beginning of the game, we should be presented with these options:

100% complete

or

Custom:
- Prize car rate: 0-200%
- Prize cash amount: 0-200%
- Damage cost amount: 0-200%

Everyone is happy.

It should be one car for one prize , not 4 randome cars in one race :/(gt3)

Well I suppose next to that the Alfa would seem like a Bugatti Veyron.:dopey::lol:

Yeah if it works. It would be great if PD could make cars that are unreliable in real life, unreliable in the game too. It could make things interesting.

I think that for some race series you should be allowed to rent a car, and a percentage of your winnings would be taken (say 25-50%), but if you use your own car, you wouldn't lose that percentage of your winnings. This would help in racing series requiring very expensive cars, e.g. NASCAR, Super GT, WRC.

Nice idea 👍

I'd like something that is easy and quick to get, so I can keep getting it over and over again to make massive money (very similar to the RSC Rally Car.)
I don't care what else is being made a Prize Car, as long as I can get them all.

Yeah,I guess I'm on board with this.

Nope Nope! Race and win money to buy cars the old fashion way. Like Gran Turismo has alway done!!!!

On GT4 I did this American Cars challenge because that was how you won the Shelby Mustang GT350 (pretty much my favorite car) but I ended up with a 90s Camaro race car. After tuning it though I suddenly became my best car, just abit tricky to drive! When I started the race, often it would fust wheelspin if I used too much power!

If PD has a sense of humor, they will reward us with an all electric car for winning any of the 24hr races.

Aren't those the only cars we've seen being driven in gameplay videos? So I wouldn't believe that.

Having an all electric car wouldn't be bad, I wouldn't mind something like a GT by Citroen LM Concept or something.

i just want to avoid the saving up $ to by an Audi TT to enter the Audi TT races only to win an Audi TT!

b

Now that pissed me off a lot in GT4 :yuck:
I sure hope they change that in GT5

You mean GT3 as you won the R8 concept for the TT comp in GT4.

oops quoted the wrong post...
