Oof. Big crash between Supra and Mustang for P2. Mustang in pieces. Driver got out all okay.

Edit: Weird race, but as long as the numbers stay the same and keep building, the series is in good hands.

There’s no way nobody else picked up Summer Rintoule referring to the McLaren as a “go-kart on wheels”.

But yeah, odd race finish with those pending penalties but still fun to see these cars tackle Phillip Island.

Yeah, the Arturo’s are scary quick and tossable. All the circuits they head to keep the cars even. Not sure what layout they’ll use for The Bend.

Imagine if Kia gave GRM a crack at Gen2.

If Supercars had of kept the option to go with a twin turbo V6, the whole reason for the dropping of the V8 from the category title, who knows what the potential could have been.
I don't know of any V8 they could have adopted other than the generic option Supercars were offering, and I don't believe the KIA boardroom would have approved any budget for that.
Anyway, trying to balance the parity of three V8s is difficult enough without throwing a Korean curveball.

It’s like the Mustang Cup in Ausssie Racing Cars.
More people there involved with those racing, than there are spectators.
I knew the fuel issues we're having would have some influence, but there's almost no one there.

Yeah I noticed that myself during qualifying. The spectator area down the main straight was empty, aside from one small family.

Honestly, you could replace Aussie Racing Cars with a number of Australian racing series.

I thought there maybe more turn up this afternoon but there's more putting on the show than there are watching it.
If there's more than 100 then they're not watching from the spectator areas.

If Cody Garland is to be believed, and what was reported on Speedcafe is accurate, Aussie Racing Cars have some major issues to sort.

That’s wild. The Aussie Racing cars are as unique as the when the V8 Supercars championship began. Can’t be making the category a mini version of what V8SC been going through.

As for the main race, nice to see A45, a host of GR86, BRZ, RX-8, VWs, Mazdas and the Accord Euro :D. Nice to see RCF as well. I bet a Skyline would go well versus the Kia and lesser BMWs.

I knew you'd be impressed with the qualifying effort of the Accord Euro.
It's got that VTEC induction roar happening too.
For pioneers with nothing more than a blank notebook to start with, they've done well so far.

I noticed you mentioned the Lexus RCF.
Steve Owen is the lead driver in that car, and someone I knew as a 16yo karter that worked part-time at my local go-kart track 35 years ago.
Steve and I used to swap the lap record, taking tenths and hundredths off each other every chance we got until the place closed.
He got the bragging rights in the end, but he was a good 10kg or so lighter than me, which doesn't sound like much, but we only 5hp at our disposal.

Doubt I’ll see it circling the track though. It’s not a Kia, BMW or Ford. ;)

Yeah, can’t recall Steve Owen doing that well in the main game. I remember watching that smash with the fireball at either Winton, Queensland or Perth. (Looked it up real quick: at Perth, into the back of Karl Reindler)
Some success as a co-driver though. Last year, the RCF finished 25th out of the 50 cars that completed the race. 19 DNF.

Maybe it was the lead in to the split qualifying session that was the reason for yesterday's coverage, that caused so much on air for the C, D & E classes.

Steve won the Sandown 500 with Cam Waters and finished 2nd with Whincup at Bathurst in the Vodafone 1-2 of 2010.
He's also one of the few to win what is now Super2 twice.
He has a Wikipedia page if you want to have a read.

So, I'm watching this Bathurst 6 hours for the first time, and I'm curious: what's the background on this series and the cars? Are the top cars "professional" touring cars prepped by major OEMs, or is it more like the lower classes of NLS, where most, if not all of the cars partaking are garage builds and/or prepped by local tuners?

One of the Mazdas are now leading the class with the Euro P2.

Yeah, had a look at Steve’s career. A few good finishes in the FG X.

These cars race in an enduro series at various other circuits. Run and built by anyone from family teams to garage tuners. All types of drivers experience. It gets a lot of attention from professional drivers entering(retired racers, current V8 Supercars drivers, celebrities). Many of the which have known the team owners and many are friends.

As for the cars, there is a price cap( I think it’s about $120,000AUD -might have gone up. Edit: $150,000AUD) and a minimum of four seats to keep people from entering sports cars.

Whole lot of happening going on while the clock runs down. Not as many roundels up the front since the start.

Edit: What the heck?! The yellow was before the Mazda and Green after. Why was he still trying to overtake? Geez.

Very nasty crash. The lack of replays and commentary pretending nothing happened is concerning, but then you would think a red flag would be called for a serious situation. Glad to hear the drivers are at least in a stable condition.

Yeah, they go all quiet and don't show the replays until they're sure all involved are stable.
It was definitely a biggie, totally avoidable and I suspect will involve a giant beasting from the Stewards.

So did anyone pick up on the comment from a competitor about GT4 cars for the 2027 Bathurst 6 hour?
Nothing confirmed as yet, but he did seem hopeful GT4 cars would be eligible for the race.

Yep. That was Mark Griffith. I went straight to Speedcafe.com to see if there was any news I missed when he said it. He was one of the first to run an AMG GT4 in the GT series and 12H and during the production series when GT4 were merged before the current official GT4 series.

That's fantastic news for Lachie.
So good to see another young Aussie making the giant leap offshore to try and build an international career.
I wish him all the very best for a super successful 2026 and beyond.

Good to see the Lotus up there in the top 5 for a while at the start of this one.

Great battle for the overall lead at the start of this one.
