I'll do both on and offline racing, though I don't see me doing the career. The races are to short at the start for me, from what I've seen in the videos.

I really hope SMS saw the need for good options and layout for league racing online. Especially with Forza 5 having zero options and PS4 not even having a decent league racer.

yeah...this is why the whole resolution war does not bother me...I play my Xbox on a 32' inch tv about 8" from it...I would never notice the difference as the Xbox One outputs on 1080p which is my tv resolution. If I was in a bigger room playing on a bigger screen, well that would be a different story...
Once in a while I toy with setting up triple screens and running them at 720p which would look as good or better than my current 55" at 1080p and I'm happy with the way that looks. It should also run almost as well at 3x720p s it does at 1080p

I also think the average Tom dick and harry won't notice the difference in the res but some certainly will.

Don't see how anyone will notice the difference unless they are running the XB1 version and PS4 version side by side at the same time

Pretty sure the race length is fully adjustable and many of the videos have had the race length reduced. Some classes have a sprint race and a feature race per round so you get a bit of both worlds. ;)

You do realise you can start your career doing the longer races if you want to, you could jump straight into LMP1 or Formula A at the start of career.. you don't have to do the shorter races

Yes I know that, but I think I'll enjoy the slower classes the most. When I played Forza I really got into the B and A class cars the most. So I ses myself living in the GT classes and maybe the lower formula cars.

If the races are a minimum of 10 laps I'll race in the career. The races were far to short in Forza's career. And if not I'll make up my own story line.

Took me a little while to find it but I think you'll like this quote of DrJustice from the Video thread. ;)

It's a short special event as FuriousDemon says. A club race using road cars even...

Some examples of typical race lengths doing a few random picks in the race calendar:
Clio Cup 15-30 laps
FA 50-80 laps
GT3 20-50 laps
Endurance, 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, 184 laps...

My take on race lengths: :) 👍

Don't understand, you spend loads of dosh on a PS4 for what could possibly be the best RaceSim yet, great physics etc but choose to use a controller? I suppose it's what you like/used to at the end of the day. Personally, I couldn't imagine using one these days, miss out on so much info, FFB etc.
Because for me I become so immersed in the racing I forget about the fact that I am using a controller, and I am looking at the wheel and drivers hands in cockpit view. The input medium is irrelevant to me, much like using a controller to use weapons in Battlefield 4 where I don't feel like I have to be holding a plastic weapon as the input medium to make me believe that I am actually using the weapon in-game.

Uhm,have you driven a car,or fired a weapon?

It seems a lot of people talk about AI over online racing. Is there that many people that prefer offline over online for racing games? I'm not saying one is better than the other, just wondering since we're in the age of, online is everything for consoles with all the new social additions.

(I don't play PC and I don't really follow PC communities)
There's network lag in online play. While it can be reasonably manageable, it isn't always. Sometimes it's nice to play with completely lagless opponents that you always know are going to be exactly where you see they are.

Some people might also have decent internet speed, but still have very unstable latencies, which makes is both annoying for the person with the poor network quality, and for those who have his jittery ass in their races :p.

I will miss driving with my wheel (G27) as I'm on PS4, however I can drive almost as fast with a controller - you just lose out on the immersion of a wheel.
For the moment I can't justify the cost (mostly to my wife!) of a new wheel but I might sneak one in somewhere in the future. :)

I play racing games both ways; controller on consoles, wheel on PC. Physics matter more to me than the device I use to play the game, especially since FFB can very easily throw everything out of whack if it's less than great. When you play racing games with a wheel, they live or die by their FFB. It also leads people to praise the "physics" of a game or write off another game as "unrealistic" when in actuality they're only describing their impression of how it "feels"...based on FFB.

I already play everything else with a controller, and have been playing games that way for about 25 years. You press a button to jump or to swing a sword; you tilt a joystick to run or climb a ladder. It's no extra leap of the imagination to drive a car the same way. A wheel provides more precise control, which is nice, but in games that are designed with consideration for controllers, it's generally not necessary.

You can still turn down the FFB intensity and response though, to the level where it basically just feels like how the controller shakes. Then you're still left with a much more precise input tool than what a controller is.

Not every series is that long, karts are not for example, but most can be longer than 10 laps.
I wonder if the kart series has gotten longer races recently(?) The issue was raised a little while ago here by one of the regulars, suggesting that kart races should be 15-20 laps (I think they were 7-8'ish). I can't find the GTP postings, but I brought the suggestion across to WMD mid March and haven't really thought about it since.

Just now I started a couple of Kart careers to check the state of it. I chose the first event on the calendar for both classes, and these were the race formats:

125cc Kart: sprint race 10 laps, main race 15 laps
Super Kart: practice 30 min, qualification 15 min, sprint race 10 laps, main race 15 laps.

In Quick Race mode you can go up to 999 laps.

Imagine playing call of duty with a plastic gun lol. You could buy one of your favourite guns and yse it online :p.

@Pseudopod -- With the physics in most console games, you're talking about using a scalpel to slice bread. ;)

I've had the thought of giving Enthusia another go with my G25, since the last time I tried was through a capture card on my old desktop, which was a frustratingly poor experience. I have never had a way to setup a wheel in my console gaming space (and no inclination to bother with a sturdy solution), but with my new LCD and deinterlacer I could theoretically bring the PS2 to my computer desk.

Playing the game as it is with the Dual Shock 2 requires much less effort, though. :D

My main reason years ago to get a wheel was how awful the ds3 was. I absolutely hate that controller. Ds4 is great so I may stick with it until I can justify t300

ummm... guys andy just hinted something
