Obviously we have Kaz's quotes about the SLS, in which his description of it matches very closely his description of what he wants the cover car to be, but we have visual proof too.

Starting at the TGS press conference:

Look at the "5." The car inlaid in there is definitely an SLS.

And then the pictures that have appeared just in the last few days, namely this one:

Just look. The silver car in the background is definitely an SLS, and the red one on the 5 appears to be.

I suppose, but if that's not the final box, why put a car on it at all? They could just put a Gran Turismo logo.

It was for a promotional video for Mercedes-Benz, they probably wanted to show them what the SLS would look like one the cover. They probably have designed covers with other cars as well.

Makes sense. Still, I think it will be the SLS. And anyone have any idea what the other car from the TGS conference? I would say an SLS, but the rear window doesn't quite seem right. If it is an SLS, I'd say that at least elevates the SLS above any other cars as they certainly didn't need to show it at the press conference.

Care to provide an accurate translation of him saying the words "The Mercedes SLS AMG is the cover car to GT5"

You would be better off asking Kazunori's translator-dude!

Back to topic;
Why not have several different car cover combinations so you could pick your favourite?! ZR1 / Nissan GTR / Ferrari 458 / SLS / Lambo etc.

Simples!

Right. They probably have one for every manufacturer in the game and will not make a final conformation on any of them until the very last second. They probably have some for manufacturers that are not in the final game just incase. Thank goodness marketing and developing are two seperate departments!

Well I wouldn't mind an SLS but I was actually hoping for a Lamborghini or Bugatti since they are new arrivals in the series. But seeing as other games have already used their models on their covers, I don't recall any game with a Mercedes on the boxart.

Anyone else get all giddy inside looking at those boxes? March might seem like a long time away, but the boxes mean we're getting close!

Watch it will be the SLS, tell me one time that the car that was hyped by polyphony wasnt the cover car for the next game ;), Ford GT - GT4, Nissan GTR - 5 Prologue Corvette GT PSP and now attention to the SLS means it will be on the cover and I think most that are denying it are the ones who are suprised the car they wanted isnt on there. But hey I personally would rather see the SLS then a Corvette or a viper so I understand you all ;).

no, we are saying it because no one knows, I personally could't care less about the cover. let's be honest that is why we buy the game. But fact is that not even KY himself know what car is going to be on the cover ;)

the first time when i saw the sls amg (even before i defintaly knew that it will be in gt5) i instantly thought: "wow, this will be the gt5 cover car!"

Well no, but there is this:

Yamauchi on choosing the cover car for GT PSP
When I think about what car to put on the cover, I have to figure out which car is considered the coolest at this exact moment in time.

Yamauchi on the SLS AMG
The SLS AMG will probably be the most exciting car in the world when Gran Turismo 5 is released. Also in terms of styling and driving performance as well, it's probably the hottest car around right now.

I love the SLS. I hope it's as good to drive as it looks, because I want to own and race it in GT5 more than the 458 or Gallardo. And... 💡 I can't believe I just said that, but it's true. :D

I definitely have the feeling that the long wait is coming to an end.

👍

The SLS is oozing with sophistication and taste. Lambos and ferraris on covers is so tacky.

I agree 👍. I think Kaz would pic the SLS because it fits the taste of the GT series.
A typical Skyline, Lambo or Ferrari is something I would expect from Forza.
PD has matured, and this is their 5th installment and that greatly relates with Mercedes/AMG with their retrofit design.
Besides I can't think of another new design out there thats as elegant, classy and original as the SLS.

It's not an ugly car, per se, but it doesn't seem to be the perfect fit (if it makes the cut, I hope it's black). When I see the SLS AMG, I think of a retired man in his 60's driving to NYC. I also think of high class luxury. The Ferrari 458 bleeds ferocity with a sense of class. It doesn't look strikingly over-done. It's front ends smiles at you. It looks welcoming and somewhat intimidating. Not to mention, very sexy in red.

The Veyron is another good choice, though it's not as current. Doubt it'll make the cut.

To me the 458 seems like just another Ferrari.
Theirs' nothing shockingly new about it, and to me its design just favours its older siblings, the 360 and 430. It looks more like a Modena and Enzo combined.
I just dont think its innovative and original enough to be the cover girl like the Ford GT was on GT4 and how the SLS is suspected to be on the cover of GT5.
Theirs' not another vehicle out there that shares the same physique and body lines of the Ford GT and SLS which makes them instant classics and bearers of innovative engineering and design.

I think we should have a selection of cars on the front, perhaps a starting grid or something. You know when car magazines do group tests of supercars and do static shots for their front covers, well something like that.

Well the SLS can be seen as more of a 'prestigous' car than the Ferrari 458 or the Bugatti Veyron, as the Bugatti and Ferrari say 'classy high performance!'. Where the Mecedes says 'luxury with history and high performance'.

honestly I'm not sure I really want a Car on the Cover of GT5, I would prefer a photo of a track....the track, the 'Nurburgring' (add emphasis). My reason is because its always been a car or car part on the cover of all the Gran Turismo Cases. it would be nice to mix it up for GT5.;)👍

Ok, what about the Focus RS? Or maaaaybe, a R26.R? Or, the new 250RS? God, there's soooo many gorgeous new cars coming out or that have just been launched its hard to know which ones would best suit the cover. I'm not sure the SLS AMG would be the best choice, I find its styling a little awkward, abit too heavy and bloated. Also, its one of those 'historic' & 'retro' cars like the Ford GT... which I think has been done already in GT4. Don't get me wrong, the Ford GT is one of a=my favourite cars ever, but... well, you know what I mean.
