neurokinetikI just got done installing a Magic V+ in my V7 Ps2, after the Matrix Infinity failed to function, and can report success. 👍
bighapYes you can. The Slim PS2 is known as the V12 in the mod chip world. You can get either a Matrix Infinity or the Crystal Chip. I know a guy in the UK if you need an installer.
bighapAll ps2s can be chipped. Lemme know if you are unsuccessfull finding an installer. I will give you my contact if needed.
bighapLike I said in my first post, swap magic is garbage. Plus using the slide card will eventually damage your tray.
bighapThe ps2 warranty is only 90 days anyways. Most good installers warrant their install. The flip top, slide card, and old school neo chip/sbox require swapping. All current chips require no swapping.
\bighapHe's in St. George. I would go with the Crystal Chip.
gtaddictOk, thanks. I saw this on modchip.com

you don't have to get your PS2 chipped to play backups/imports. Can you tell me anything about it, how reliable it is (etc).

You can look on the behind of the ps2 there is the model number.RossellI have a British launch model PS2. Does anyone knows its model number?
I'll look when I get home.
Hi People nice to be a part of this community, this is my first post.bighapI moderate a forum that deals with mod chips, and I can tell you that more people will run into issues with games that are dvd9 due to their ps2 laser and not their chip, so some unmodded ps2s will have issues as well. If your ps2 is modded and won't play dvd9, which gt4 is, try disabling your chip. This is usually done by pressing and holding the reset button to turn on your ps2 and then letting go when the Sony screen comes up. Some newer chips use the eject button instead, so you can try that too. Most problems will be run into with people with older chips such as the Magic 2 and 3. Swap magic discs are just plain garbage and will definately cause problems, as many of you are experiencing.
If your laser is the issue there are a few thing you can try. If your laser is dirty you can try a cleaning disc like this. You can also clean it by hand. Your laser might not be strong enough either. You can see how to clean by hand and how to adjust your laser here.
