I hate wireless controllers! Man I really hope they offer regular ones as well. In fact I hope the ones that come with the consol are wired. Going Wireless with no alternative is a STUPID move. Batteries, yeah thats the last thing I need. I'm reaching the end of the mulsane at 250 and I slam on the breaks but nothing happens because my controllers' battery's are low. :ouch:

Best controller?

But, as for pads, my current favorite is the Logitech premium controller for PS2, with the leather grip inserts, gold plated plugs, etc. Mine crapped out, though, gotta find a new one.

The shape of the PS3 controller looks good to me, as it's somewhat similar to my PS2 controller.

Favorite that I've used, however, is the fullsize XBOX controller. It's just the right size that I don't get hand strain from having to tightly clamp my hands around the controller, and the buttons are well laid out, unlike the horrible B/W buttons on the S model.

Worst controller "honors" go to the 3DO's pad.

Only a pad and five buttons (A,B,C on the front, and two shoulder buttons), on a console that was released concurrently with PS1 and N64, and absoultely apalling build quality. Both the general feel and the buttons feel like they came off one of those $20 "1000 games in one!" sets they sell in the mall, absolutely insane considering the price of the console, in excess of $500. (May have been $599?) I'm glad I got mine for free at the time, as a family member was a VP at a Panasonic-related company,)

I think you can recharge the rechargable batteries(which I hope are included) through the USB port. So for the guys that are against the PS3 wireless controllers just keep the dang USB wire connected to the wireless controller and there! Problem solved! wired controller! :)

SNES man I can do Hadoukens all day with it.

The Snes pad is lovely and I like the PS2 pads because it seems like a natural evolution of the snes pad, but with a worse D-Pad.

The Dreamcast controler was terrible come to think of it, with nice squared edges to dig into your hands and the worst D-Pad ever. The only redeeming factors were the nice analog stick and the triggers. The X-Box (LOL HUGE) controler seems like the natural evolution to the DC pad. Although the normal one is too bulky for me, the S one is great, apart from the crap D-Pad and i'm not fond of the location of those black/white buttons. Also it feels nice solid heavy feel to it.

 yeah doing a 24 hour race and it wouldn't be just fuel and tires you'd change in the pit, but your controller batteries too. I can see the appeal of wireless controllers, but could I be arsed with swapping batteries and recharging them? no.

Impossible for me to vote. The buttons on the PS2 are simple to learn, but the gamecube controller feels so good

I hope there will be wired controllers as well, but not all wireless devices are bad. Everyone that has a Nintendo WaveBird for the GameCube seems to think it's hot ****, so it's got to be some kind of good.

And I'm sure the same will happen with the game if your battery is low that happens when a controller gets unplugged - the game freezes with a message to plug in the controller. Pretty simple, don't get your panties in a wad.

Actually, I disagree. I like the PS2's setup of the analog sticks. Unless you're playing something like "Rise to Honor," you'll need a good setup because the game uses only the analog stick and the triggers to perform your actions.

So the PS3 is capable of up to seven-player action? I remember "WWF Smackdown: Just Bring It" (because "WWE" wasn't the name of the organization at the time of this game). I believe you could be able to play up to 8 characters, or maybe just 4. I don't know because I haven't played it in a while. I think games with many players being able to compete without going online, the biggest benefactor would be party games. I'd hate to imagine seven (or even eight) players going at it in split-screen action on one TV!

The battery life will last up to 24 hours? That means that if you're racing a 24 hour endurance in Gran Turismo 5, you'd better have a set of batteries waiting in case you're leading at the 23:58:00.000 mark and the batteries go out. Either that, or hope there's a Save Game option within races, especially long ones.

XBox's Fusion Frenzy was pretty awesome - I wish Sony would round up some good party games like that. I also liked FF better than the Mario party games. And having a slew of controllers makes it easier than passing them around. In addition to those kinds of games it would also be nice for board games like Monopoly and Risk (or enhancements of each). Again, less controller passing. Texas Hold'Em on the PS3, anyone? (:

As for these battery life concerns - the only thing you can come up with is a 24 hour race in one game? Has the thought not crossed your mind that not even YOU can play for 24 hours straight? Pause the game, charge the batteries, take a nap, continue the game.

Okay, I just want to bring something up....that no one else has brought up.

The "24hour" mark on the battery life is with rumble enabled if I remember correctly.

Personally, I don't play with Vibrate on a lot of my games, some, but not all.

I would imagine that it would be close to double that without the rumble feature.

And I'm almost positive sony will have USB cables for these controllers.

That's exactly what I was thinking, just the other day. GameCube controller with the buttons placed like Dual Shock II would be PERFECT!.

I hope so too. Some Mario Kart D.D. and Halo type games would be great. 👍

How would you play Texas hold'em on one console/one TV? Wouldn't all the other players see your cards when it's your turn, or would you make them turn their backs to the TV?

Heaps of controllers does sound like fun though. :)

I've only ever used the snes, N64, ds2 and xbox controller s pad.

Like the others have said it depends on the games your playing, for racing games I've always preferred the ds2, but for fps the xbox s pad is better.

I've always been dissapointed with the analogue sticks on the ds2 especially when I played Halo on the xbox.

I think it would be good to have Nintendo buttons, xbox analogue ticks on the ds2 layout that would be the perfect controller n my opinion :sly:

What do you guys think about that??

Anyway about the thread title I think the ps3 controller looks good no trigger buttons, hopefully it should be comfortable I think its about time they changed the controller I don't like the sound charging batteries :yuck:

My favorite controller has got to be those made by sony, they are the perfect size and shape. Although i rarely use a controllers now (always with the DFP).

I am glad to see that PS3 keeps the same button layout. I think it looks pretty cool, although i am unsure of whether or not it will be comfortable with those long handles.

After reading this thread i am quite surprised, i have never been a fan of the one up, one down stick layout of Xbox and game cube controllers, i like how sony keep theirs at the same level as each other.

I always felt they were less comortable like that because you have to pull your thumbs back to use them

Its cool guys, I'm sure Sony will change the final design (after the public vomiting all over it at E3) when the system actually ships. When displaying the system at E3, not many noticed but next to the controller was a little sign saying "Concept design, subject to change" or words to that effect. The ACTUAL PS3 didn't have a little sign like this (to the best of my knowledge), giving the controller's sign increased context and relevance IMO.

I totally Agree, it's way to small and uncomfortable. You'll all regret it when you get arthritis!

Bring back the NEGCON!!!

LOL ^
Yep, I remember the NeGcon, or NegCon however it was written. Had a devoted following with the guys over at GranTurismo.com in the day. Twisty, torqing design that always sounded quite clever. I am thankful to this day that I never tried it. I think that, if I did, I'd prolly miss it too much like you.

Good one Brock, you make me a chuckle.

Again, I'm not too keen on the size of the PS2 controllers, the PS3 controller isn't as nic looking (it might grow on us) but it looks like it'll be a lot more comfy than the PS2 one.

I agree it does look more comfy hope fully when we get it it WILL be comfortable

My favourite is the PS2 controller. It was nice and compact, all the buttons you needed all at your finger tips.

Actually, I never really ever had a problem with any controller, I didn't really like the GC controller but I could use it and I still had fun.

I'm really disappointed with the look of the PS3 controller, the handles are too long. I can't see sony just f*ucking up the controller like that, so either there's another design or it's really comfortable. So you can't really prejudge the new PS3 design.

I wish the DS2 was larger though, I bought a Logitech one that copies it for my PC, it's larger and therefore more comfortable in my hands, I guess it's hard to make one that's a good size for kids and adults, and anyone with small or large hands.

This is why I think they should make multiple sizes, just like pants (: Controllers are not "one size fits all". Perhaps a small / medium / large would be good. Surely the market is big enough for that now.

Out of the list, I chose the PS2 controller. My favorite all time controller is from the sega saturn, the 3D controller. For some reason I really liked that one.

voted for the ps2 pad too, i think it needs to be a little smaller IMO and get rid of the anaologue sticks (devils work) give the ps2 pad clear buttons from the psp and a smoother finish around the joins in the plastic and we will have a winner for me. and if they could make the buttons glow a light blue colour then i can see them in the dark. pucker. :)

I'm kinda split on controllers. For a game like GT the DS2 is phenominal. For a fps the xbox S feels nice, alot better than the DS2.

I'll vote for the DS2.

I think that's one of the goals of the new concept design for the PS3 controller.

Notice that it's not extremely thick or hard to grasp, yet it's wide enough for big hands, and the handles are long enough so your fingers are not cramped.
