and if they could make the buttons glow a light blue colour then i can see them in the dark. pucker. :)
Come on, haven´t you learned the buttons scheme already? :P

And PS3´s concept pad still looks horrible to me. I´m not talking just about the visuals here, it seems horrible to play with it too. I hope to be proven wrong though.

Doing some basic research on ergonomics, the curves are a bit more natural than the DS2, so I'm pretty sure we'll be comfortable with it.

In all actuallity, the DS2 is actually an extremely uncomfortable controller and isn't very ergonomic at all, neither are the GC and XB controllers for that matter.

But from what we've seen in teh concept photo's, this controller looks very promising as the curves are natural.

Another note and thing to look at is that the D-Pad and Face buttons are tilted slightly, for more comfortable use.

I, for one, think this will be loads more comfy than the DS2.

I think the PS3 "boomerang" will save you alot money because everytime you fail a license test and throw that "boomerang" at your TV, it will circle back (you know how a boomerang works, right?) and hit you right in the nuts :yuck: :dopey: ...........this also another reason to wear helmet while playing GT 💡

I like the DS2 for Driving Games like GT4,but when it comes down to it,my personal preference for most other games, especially FPS, is Xbox.

With the Xbox Duke controller (the Larger controller) I feel like I am in control of my weapon. The DS2 is waaaay too small and simple to be a FPS Based controller.Plus the Xbox has 2 pressure sensitive triggers so you can alternate fire speed etc.So basically when it comes down to it:

Xbox Controller:

FPS:9/10
Racing:7/10

DS2:

FPS:6/10
Racing:9/10

IMO.

i like the new controller.....however, my only gripe is how the L and R2 buttons will be. i mean, there is no lip where i can squeeze the button between my ring and middle finger. they look like they're way too close together. i hope i can trust sony about it though.

I agree..i loved that big xbox controller. the triggers were a bit bigger too which made it great for racing games...Yea it was huge and you could break your toe if you dropped it on your foot, but it was very comfortable while playing my games.

I think it will take some time, but eventually we'll get used to the new PS3 controller. I remember when the Xbox controller was first shown, most people didn't like it because it looked too awkward and chunky. The PS3 controller will be fine, it'll just take a bit of time.

I like using the triggers on the Xbox controller as a pedal and brake in racing games more than a shoulder button on the PS2/3 controller. It's more realistic since you have a larger distance to apply the force as you would using real pedals, unlike a couple mm in the PS2/3 controller. Bolth controllers use pressure sensitivity but I find the PS2/3 controllers to be to sensitive with the closeness the shoulder buttons are to the controller its either nothing, or all the way down.
and I don’t know if any one knows for sure, but besides using 2 TVs for one player, would you be able to use 2 TVs for multiplayer in games such as Kill Zone 2 so that you can use 1 PS3 with 7 controllers and a couple people per TV?

Duno strashok, maybe that will be the case, well i hope it is anyway. It would make sence to use two tvs and ps3 but im sure they will either stop you doing it this way or just leave it upto the Software developers to decide. As for the pressure sensative buttons on the PS2 pads, the shoulder buttons are straight on/off buttons, but the x,[],^,O buttons are just as sencetive as the analogue sticks, i can use them in GT3 and GT4 to apply throttle and break with a very good degree of pressure. I hope they make all buttons on the new ps3 controler analogue excluding the select and start of course.

PS welcome to GTP :)

I thought the shoulder buttons were analogue - hmmm, I'll have to check. Anyone know for sure?

well ive always thought that they were just on off buttons, not like the [],^,O,X buttons to be fare ive never used them only to turn things on off, never to apply subtle pressure. If somebody knows 100% then lets us know, but as far is i am aware they arn't.

the shoulder buttons on the ps2 control are pressure sensitve. Just play ace combat games for ps2...the throttle and airbrakes are both with the shoulder buttons and are pressure sensitive.

I think I remember form GTA-San Andreas that you use them to fly the planes and helicopters and that they are indeed analogue... :) 100% sure of it.

out of the ones on offer I'd go with PS2,

honorable mention to the Sega Master System and Saturn. Oh how I loved them so....

well i didnt know for sure that the shoulder buttons were analogue, never used them in that way, but its always good to know. do you guys have any info on the motor units inside the PS3 for the vibration? as wernt sony being sued for not paying Immersion for the use in the PS2 pads. any info would be great. :)

Sorry swift for triple posting, i tent to edit my post if the content is the same or on the same track, if you could delet the other posts that would be kool. cheers.

Sprite. Feel free to use the edit button to touch up your posts or finish a thought. Triple posting is bad! :yuck:

Basically it's like this.

Sony had their own vibration methods, however, upon release in the US, it infringed upon the vibration patent developed by Imerrsion. Sony lost. There are a lot of companies that do this, it's called patent fishing. basically you patent something, then if some corporation does something similar, you sue, regardless of what nation they are from. I honestly do not see how we can SUE someone from another nation for developing technology in another nation. Especially since they contribute so much to our economy...but whatever.

IMO, Immersion corp deserves to be shut down.

Just read this on Gamespot...... :grumpy: Interview with Sony's cheif technical officer

When asked if the there was a possibility the design of the prototype PS3 controller--already derisively being called the "batarang"--might be changed before launch, Chatani replied that there may be some "minor changes." However, he said that its form factor will probably stay the same.

Damn I hate that controller!

we'll see when it comes out how much you hate it.

It's just because it's different that you dislike it. Again, here's my theory.

If this design happened to come around with the first generation playstation, and the next generation were to use the DS2 design, you'd say "dang, I hate the new controller" just the same.

o.o Am I the only one who uses the joysticks on the controller for throttle/brake? I know some people have complained that they're too close together, but I find that they're quite comfortable.
