spriteSorry to bring this up again, but speed tree isnt just a tree system for planting static ok looking trees, these trees will react to fan blades of choppers, or the draft from a speeding car, in a very realistic way, using ragdoll type physics (like the stuff from far cry & HL2).
Also these trees are self shading, this means that originally all the shadows in a game were painted onto an flat polygon then layerd onto the road (like in GT4) then an alpha map is used to fade the edges and add any types of patters (like when light shines through a fence) but this is all pree determined on the ps2 from the start of development of a track (a), But with the power od the ps3 we will see self shadowing (like the stuff in high end pc games now), and this is just like what happens in real life, but they wont just cast shadows on the ground, they will cast shadows on each other and on themselfs (b) (hence the term "self shadowing") this saves alot of time painting shadow textures and organising alpha maps and also it saves on space, but you need the peower to do it of course.

I am sure that most of the gamers in Japan just laughed at what they saw, after learning a bit on what the Sony has planned for the PS3.
code_kev...
Emotion engine?
Ahh sorry.
Every company talks crap. Get used to it.
Point out when Sony said something childish, stupid and negative about the XBox360.code_kev...

tha_conCome on code. You know the emotion engine arguement is retarded, why press it on? Because you feel sony betrayed you? We've gone over it a million times. There are MORE PS2 games that have great facial expressions than there are Xbox games.!!!
The point of the emotion engine is not to make you cry code, and YOU are taking it too literally. It was explained by sony over and over again what the purpose of the emotion engine was, you just could never understand it.
To display emotion by facial expression.
Accomplished? YES.
Your arguement now? DESTROYED.
GAME OVER I PWN FTW HAR HAR HAR!!!
OmnisYou stole my sequenced Hars. Ass.
Anyway, microscro are just a bunch of douchebags. I feel like Microsoft is the class jock/douchebag, but Sony is the genius nerd. 3 cheers for all the nerds.

Famous for what?.... This is false. It's the same thing American government accused Japanese of, back in the 80's. We didn't buy American cars, electronics, etc. not because they were American, but because they weren't very good. Today, Japanese loves many things America has to offer that are good, but Xbox fanboys likes to blame Japanese consumers for not giving into Xbox because it's from the United States. Is that why Sony is just destroying Apple iPods in Japan?[/sarcasm]code_kevThe Japanese are also famous for snubbing anything from the US regarding technology.
code_kevUmm no. I used it to point out that companys talk crap, and they do. They all hype what they sell.
Tha_con, your a smart guy, but that is simply the most retarded statement I've ever read. It doesn't even make sense, I mean, duh, the ps2 has more games, yet you seem to think that quantity = quality. Oh Half Life 2. That's on the xbox. That has the best facial animations of just about any game this gen, but shock horror, no emotion engine.
So you think that the fact that it's called the emotion engine means it can render facial expressions better then say an xbox? That's farking stupid. It comes down to the skill of the animators. That and the raw computing power needed to render the stuff. See Half Life 2.
Your come back, pathetic at best.
ummm...
I also love this "sony are the little under dog company who love us long time" thing going on. Don't be farking stupid. Sony are just as bad, you forgetting the spyware on cds thing? OH NOES!
Really, I couldn't care less.
Even at the initial press conference, KK said "the emotion engine will display new capabilities for facial expression never before seen by a console".
Did he lie? No.
Did he "over exaggerate" ? No.
No, it is not. For Microsoft and their fans, it's easier to just blame their problems on the Japanese, saying Japanese people are biased and hate American this and that. True problem lies in the lack of Microsoft's ability to adapt to the Japanese gaming market. Make something they want, they will buy it. It is as simple as that.code_kevAnd my statement about the japanese may have been abit over the top, but regarding consoles, it's pretty true.

Solid LiftersYou know, I'm betting code_kev is such an ignorant jackass, that he thinks black people don't purchase the XBox360 because they eat too much fried chicken and watermelon, that their fingers are too greasy to use the controlers. 👍 It's also nice to see he can be prejudice against people as well as game consoles.
Way to contribute to this thread, you bigoted bastard! 👍
code_kevCalling it the emotion engine suggests that it has some special kind of hardware features for doing faces, emotion/ AI etc etc.

code_kevCalling it the emotion engine suggests that it has some special kind of hardware features for doing faces, emotion/ AI etc etc. It doesn't. All it is, is a chip which for the time could chuck out alot of polygons.
So yes, sony over exaggerated, but business is business.
Those games you listed could easily be done on any of the other consoles out now.
And my statement about the japanese was abit over the top, but regarding consoles, it's pretty true.
tha_conCome on Code, where's the guy I know of old.
It does have "special kind of hardware features" to render a lot of polygons, for facial features, and for that same reason it can keep up with the same AI of Xbox games.
Seriously code, from just a pure power perspective, the PS2 looks weaker than anything, but because of it's architecture, it is able to do some amazing things, the cause of this is it's processor, the EMOTION ENGINE.
Also, I won't agree with you being an MS fanboy, that's just rediculous, so even though I think you're amazingly wrong with the EE bashinghaha, I will say everyone trying to tag you as an MS fanboy is immature.
Solid_Lifters - Shut your pie hole, I'm reporting your post to the mod's, this is like the third time I've seen you get extremely derragatory with members, displaying only your OWN ignorance and prejudice for members who do not agree with you.
