PS3 Launch Title Games!

I intend to get two games and two Blu-ray films on release (I may rent more games). Which ones I've not decided. IF CoD3 is a release game I may get it but I may get Resistance. I have read that Untold Legends will be a launch game so that's a possibility. I'd like a racer at launch too but I'm not sure of NFS Carbon as I didn't like NFS Most Wanted that much.
As for the films I'll have to think about that. I'm only going to get ones that I'm going to watch again and agian. My brother quite likes Fifth Element so that could be one, but he'll have to pay for it!

I'm reordering my launch lists as days go by, lol.

Right now?

Madden 2007
Resistance
CoD3 (provided it releases)

Movies?

Silent Hill (that's about it)

PlayStation 3 loses SmackDown vs Raw 2007

THQs SmackDown vs Raw 2007 has mysteriously dissapeared from the game's official page. While the omission may be a simple mistake, more and more evidence is building that the PS3 may very well lose this title.

According to emerging sources, a developer on the german THQ forums stated that they would discontinue development of the PS3 version of the game due to time constraints. Instead, THQ developers decided to concentrate their time more on polishing the title on the other platforms they are scheduled to release the game for.

Of course at this point, everything is speculation. While the news is certainly troubling, an official announcement should clear up the matter. Stay tuned to ps3portal.com for the latest developments in this breaking news.

So Gamestop have "Oblivion" as a PS3 release game. What's the chances of this being right or just nonsense?

Launch is highly unlikely. It's possible that it could release sometime in the future, not a for sure thing, however, it's possible.

HL2 is coming out on multiple consoles, and other PC shooters are coming out on multiple platforms, and there's nothing more than money to be made on a port. Many people will buy a PS3, and have not purchased a 360, and they will want to play Oblivion. Given that information, it's possible.

Nothing, however, is solid, and it's definately not a launch title.

I found an article related to that. Maybe just a rumor, but I doubt it. Sometimes these guys get inside information.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, has been a seminal release on both PC and Xbox 360 this year, re-inventing the RPG for the next generation and re-invigorating a genre which had too few 'must have' titles to appeal to a wider audience. Well, as we reported in April, it seems potential PS3 owners won't be denied their share of the spoils either, with a new product page on US retailer GameStop listing a PS3 version of the game, with a launch date set for the sixth of November, confirming earlier whispers that the title would hit PS3 and PSP.

Advertisement:It's no real surprise, given Oblivion's success on other formats, but quite a delight to see it confirmed in virtual print (well if GameStop aren't whistling out of their nether regions that is). So what can we expect from Oblivion on PS3? Well naturally we've put in a call to Take-Two to try and confirm the existence of the PS3 version, but since they're not answering their phones this morning, we can indulge ourselves in a little harmless speculation.

There's almost certainly going to be downloadable content which has proved such a success on Xbox 360 but who knows if existing modules like The Thieves Den will be included or come as optional extras. More intriguingly, will it attempt to make use of that tilt functionality for some sword swinging action? Only Bethesda knows, but - for the moment at least - it's not saying.

I would prefer a Kings Field Game over oblivian, I played elders scrools 3 on the PC and it was ok, but no Kings Field.

Call of Duty 3 to miss PlayStation 3 launch?

By James Orry - 27/07/2006 - 5:20pm GMT

The Buzz: The PlayStation 3 is not listed as a release platform for Call of Duty 3 on Activision's website.

The absence of the PlayStation 3 under the release platforms for Call of Duty 3 on the Activision website has lead several gamers to question whether development of the title has run into problems; some have even suggested that the game has been canned for the PS3.

Pro-G contacted Activision to get the official story, and the good news for PS3 fans is that Call of Duty 3 is still a PlayStation 3 launch title:

"I haven't heard anything to say that CoD 3 isn't a PS3 launch title, quite the opposite. I believe this is an error on the activision.com site," said the UK Public Relations Manager.

There you go then. Call of Duty 3 is scheduled for release on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Xbox, and PS2. A PSP version is also planned.

It would be a shame for it to miss the lauch for some people, but to me its no big deal, the graphics so far looked a little naff and I cant see it been much of a massive leap over any of the other COD games, personally I would rarther have "Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway" as a lauch title than this game.

PS3 and PSP Oblivion coming...or not?

Back in April 2006, when we were all young and naive and the PS3 price had yet to come out, a Bethesda release list appeared on the internet. The list showed Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion as coming out on November 6, 2006 for both PS3 and PSP.

Then we reported that Bethesda squashed the rumor, stating "at present we have no announced plans to bring Oblivion to any platforms other than PC or Xbox 360. We'll certainly let folks know if that changes."

Now EB Games and Gamestop list everybody's most wanted 360 title on their websites, Oblivion for PS3 and PSP coming November 17, 2006. So what gives? Was that original release list correct the whole time?

Sadly, Bethesda's Pete Hines told Gamepro the newly bad news. Any mention of Oblivion for either console is "just an assumption" and that there are "no announced plans for any other version right now."

It's quite an emotional rollercoaster, this Scrolls business.

The only PS3 launch title I am getting is Metal Gear Solid 4, and then I get another launch PS3 title for Christmas or next year guys.

It would make sense for MGS4 to be released later 2007 since it's gonna be a huge game, therefore will take a lot of time to develope. And Kojima is not going to rush this masterpiece of his.

Oh I must of forgot then, anyway I will be importing any PS3 titles I buy from USA, since it will be more cheaper. But I hope Pal PS3 titles will cost less then £50 online.

They may not neccessarily be cheaper. I've bought quite a few PS2 games for my US NTSC PS2 and whilst the shop price is lower (upto £15 lower than UK prices - though it varies; popular titles have a tendancy to remain quite high) you have to take into account postage (best to pay for the best postage as that'll give you more leverage if something goes missing in the post) and of course you have Customs in the UK which, if they get their hands on it means you'll pay the tax and handling charges.
For example, when I got GT4 from lik-sang.com it cost me around £30 + £6 for postage. But it was held up by customs and I had to pay Tax and Post Office charges. In all it cost me closer to £44. I didn't buy it for price but because it had prog scan and 1080i (unlike the UK version). As for PS3 games as there is no difference between spec of the games I'm happy to get UK released titles.
However I'd buy a US game if it comes out much earlier than its UK release, which is very likely.
I guess if the UK PS3 price was £60 it'd make sense but as I believe the most expensive will be £50 I see no real discount once postage and customs are added. Of course you can get lucky with customs, as I did with MGS4. But out of 10 games I've imported only 3 didn't get duties added.
Still, the option to import is there now that all PS3 games are region free.

But there are some import stores in the UK Slack, anyway since I have other stuff to buy I think I wait a week or 2 after the PS3 has come out before buying a PS3 title.

But I still have GT4 and PS3 demos to play once the PS3 is out guys.

Well I intend to get at least one game, though if there are demos for download I'll certainly try them out. I wonder if the online rental place I rent games from will have PS3 titles ready at launch?

Online rental must be in the pipeline, I heard about online rental service rumours years before the PS3 was finally shown?

Atari to hold off on PlayStation 3 titles until 2007

Ellie Gibson 17:08 02/08/2006

Sony is targeting hardcore market with new console, says Bonnell

Speaking in an exclusive interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Atari CEO Bruno Bonnell has confirmed that the publisher has no plans to release any PS3 games before 2007.

Bonnell said Atari intends to support all three next-gen consoles "fairly equally", adding, "It's just that we're lacking information about the PS3 at this stage, because we have basically a rough release date and a high retail price point.

"As far as the Wii and the Xbox 360 go, we'll be there for this season; for PS3, we'll probably have to wait a little later in the year before we release some new titles." And, according to Bonnell, that means no Atari titles on PS3 until 2007.

The PS3 is slated for a global launch this November, priced at 499 Euro for the 20GB model and 599 Euro for the 60GB version. But Bonnell does not believe that the console's high point puts it at any risk of failure: "I think that by deciding to put the PS3 at this price, Sony has chosen to really differentiate itself from the other consoles.

"The fact that you have Blu-ray, and the fact that it's HD compatible - all this is driving me to think that Sony is picking up the high-end of the market, the hardcore, passionate fans. There will be a time they can reduce the price and access more people, but clearly that's a technical choice that Sony has made to be selective on the field at stage one," he added.

Atari not releasing games for the PS3 'til 2007? Well, all I see on their release schedule for this year is GTR2 (PC) and Test Drive Ulimited (360). Everything else is next year. Though they don't mention any PS3 games on their site I do see Alone in the Dark for the 360 for March 2007. A PS3 version too?

EA outlines PS3 launch plans, talks Wii

Wednesday 2-Aug-2006 12:00 PM Launch games for both machines revealed, while a $49.99 price tag attached to Wii titles looks possible

EA has said it expects to have four to five games out for PS3 between the console's launch and the end of the year, confirming at this stage three of the titles: Need for Speed Carbon; Madden NFL 07; and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07.

Discussing its launch games line-up for Sony's next-gen console - during a conference call held with media and analysts yesterday - the company also admitted, while fielding a question on Xbox 360 versus PS3 technical capabilities, that it's extremely unlikely that the initial wave of titles will do PS3's hardware justice.

"This Christmas, it's going to be difficult to harness the full power of the PS3 on first generation software versus what will be second generation 360 games, so they're going to be more alike than different, is our opinion at this time," an EA exec commented.

Advertisement:They continued: "As those machines develop over time [...] there's a lot of horsepower inside the PS3 that we'll be able to unlock over years two, three, and four that we're very excited about."

EA additionally took the opportunity to touch on Wii and DS during the conference call, revealing plans to boost focus on both machines. "We're definitely going after those platforms", the publisher revealed, "...we have ramped up [game] production for the Wii and DS Lite". It added: "In terms of relative investment on the Wii and the DS, we are moving resources against those platforms to increase SKU count."

The publisher went on to say, however, that it only expects to have a couple of titles out for Wii's launch period - Need for Speed Carbon and Madden NFL 07 - and a total of five released by the end of the company's fiscal year - March 2007. It's possible that EA's Wii games will retail at $49.99 in the US (apparently, Nintendo has indicated that first-party Wii games will not retail for more than this amount over the pond), but that remains to be confirmed.

Reportedly, EA didn't have an awful lot to say about Xbox 360 during the conference call, chairman and CEO Larry Probst simply stating, "We're pleased to be the leading publisher on the Xbox 360".

Midway has revealed that its John Woo action title Stranglehold will now ship in 2007.

After winning plenty of praise at E3, wowing onlookers with its action packed, bullet-filled gameplay, and destructible environments, Stranglehold was looking like one of the must have next-gen titles of 2006. Sadly, Midway has announced the title will now miss its planned 2006 release, instead arriving in Q1 2007.

The game had been expected to arrive at the PS3 launch, and joins Midway's other AAA release Unreal Tournament 2007, in slipping into 2007. No reasons were given to explain the delay, but PS3, Xbox 360 and PC gamers now have something to look forward to during the traditional release lull in the New Year.

Armored Core 4 Set for PS3 Launch

Japanese magazine Famitsu has revealed that Armored Core 4 will be released in November in Japan, IGN reports.

The Famitsu article reports that the action title “promises some major changes for the series” and will also be set in a future version of our world.
