Its a shame it's not out this year but I'm happy with them taking as much time as they need to get it to a near perfect game. I'd much prefer smooth flowing gameplay than buggy frustrating gameplay. No matter how good the graphics, storyline etc. is, if the game is buggy you would not bother buying it.

Agree 100%.

Nothing bugs* me more, then when developers rush a game just to make a deadline. I'd much rather wait for the game to be completely finished before it's released. In the case of "The Last Of Us", it looks like the wait is going to be definitely worth it.👍

At least Sony seem to be sending the PS 3 out with a bang rather than a whimper. ALA wii Xbox.

By the time this is released however, I suspect next gen videos will be popping up around the net and people's interest may not be as good.

Anyhow. Props to Sony for keeping it alive.

Now do the same for Vita before its too late dammit Sony.

I like how the crowd cheers when Ellie helps out Joel with a precise through of the brick to the head, just like at E3. Many seem to enjoy that part, ouch, hahaha!

Last of Us Easter Egg explained

GRTV tracked down the person responsible for The Last of Us easter egg in Uncharted 3 during our interview sessions at Sony's lounge at E3.

"I prefer the term 'easter egg'", laughs Naughty Dog game designer and culprit Anthony Newman, after he confessed to outing the game early.

The early leak/easter egg was from a newspaper headline found in a pub during Nathan Drake's adventures in the third Uncharted game late last year, which was the first nod to Naughty Dog's newest project.

According to Newman, the wink was left in by accident when The Last of Us announcement was shifted back from E3 to the VGAs.

"At the time I was still working on Uncharted 3 and I saw the development work being done on The Last of Us," Anthony explains. "I was super-exicted about that project, so I wanted to have a little hint in Uncharted 3, sort of tying the two games together.

"Originally at that time I think we were going to announce the game at that year's E3. So Uncharted would have come out well after the announcement of the last of us. But we decided to change our announce date to the VGAs. So Uncharted 3 was already out by that time, and people found the newspaper in the London pub, saying 'scientists are baffled by deadly fungus'."

Newman shakes his head in remembrance. "I thought i was going to get fired. Thankfully I wasn't."

Read for yourself and decide if the game is way overboard with the violence that was used during the E3 presentation. After all, this is a NaughtyDog game and the team could find ways to impress the critics out there that their new IP/game is an immersive, emotional, in-depth story/game of a middle-aged/father figure man and a 12-14 year old girl that manages to survive the outbreak.

Online co-op confirmed not to be in for campaign.

Some form of online is include but they won't go into detail.

The Last of Us Will Include Multiplayer

This news was revealed by Creative Director Neil Druckmann who also reveals it won't be co-op multiplayer -- which, I'm sure a lot of people were assuming.

"We are supporting multiplayer with The Last of Us. We’re not ready to talk about the details of how multiplayer will be implemented, however we can say that it is not co-op within the main campaign."

Thanks for these links, i'm not the sensitive sort but watching the E3 trailer, plus the trailer for Watchdogs (didn't like how the dude causes the multiple car crash then some poor guy is petrified that is partner is going to die because they get hit in the ensuing crossfire) and also having recently seen a really odd, dubious trailer for Hitman, I think we are actually coming to the point where the criticism that some games feature genuinely mindless and gratuitous violence, is actually justified.

I'm not one of those who believes that games desensitise us to the extent that we become psychotic serial killers, but I do think they are failing in not making us question the full consequences of our actions and the violent acts we partake in, in these virtual arenas. The fact that games seem to, in many ways, be becoming more linear, more like an interactive movie, often forces us to do these things with little real regard for the outcome, though i'm not sure if it is better or worse if we are given a choice.

Anyway another topic entirely, but as a relatively old gamer who has seen a lot, it's given me much food for thought lately. :sick:
 
About the whole violance thing. To me, it looks like The Last of Us is going to be a lot more serious about it. I don't know about the rest of you, but I personally found it downright uncomfortable to watch the first guy being choked to death (or unconsciousness), but at the same time, it's about survival. Better for a game to show it so has your enemies actually have a desire to live, rather than just show the completely blank of an expression when being killed. Shooting a guy point blank with a shotgun has consequenses. Why shouldn't the game show that?

If you want needless violance, play the utterly pointless airport scene in CoD MW2. The Last of Us doesn't look like it's doing violance, just for the sake of being violant. But rather to enforce the idea of survival being the order of the day in the world of the game. And by making both your own and the AI's death seem more realistic and by extension, more bloody, the game has a much more serious impact on the player.

Just my two cents.

It worries me that this is a kinda gimmick, which brings it down to the level of games like Manhunt when there seems to be *so* much more to it.

Furthermore I didn't get why Joel and Ellie didn't just leave some of the drifters they come across the hell alone. Why does Joel have to murder each and every one of them? Perhaps things will be clearer in the game but again, i'm really not sure killing everyone in sight just to lay your hands on whatever resources they have is really necessary. If in the game you *can* just leave them alone, then I applaud Naughty Dog, but i'm getting a feeling that you are forced to kill them.

You can leave them alone. Note in the E3 trailer, at around 3:20, Ellie says, "Shall we go around them?" They did that for show at E3.

True, I got the impression that the option would always be there.

Note also that ND are very strong on story, so characters are not linear - they may start one way and end up shifting perspectives. ND got attacked a short while ago for focusing on Drake in U3 and excluding Chloe and Cutter from the last part - the reply pointed out that this was to show how driven Drake could be regarding certain things. They needed to make him a bit of an ass so he could realise that first.

Whose to say that Joel doesn't start out bad and end up less violent. He has survived longer and therefore seen more, so is likely to be less trusting, especially in view of the pre-story which sets the scene for TLoU.

At Comic Con, Naughty Dog will show new gameplay footage from their upcoming PS3 exclusive "The Last of Us".

This panel is titled as "The Last of Us: Behind the Scenes with Naughty Dog" and will be hosted by Neil Druckmann, Bruce Straley, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson.

Furthermore, Naughty Dog confirmed that at the event, they will be discussing The Last of Us, and will show never seen before in-game cinematic featuring a special guest.

This The Last of Us Comic Con Panel will begin on Friday, July 13 and X-Play host Adam Sessler will moderate it.
 
I must admit there is a lot more cursing than in Uncharted, Naughty Dog's other series.

That is definately true, but then again, it would appear to be a very different game. But surely, Gears of War or Killzone has more swearing. Or perhaps it's just because the swearing in those games usually seems to unnecessary?
