It's official... PS3 to be released worldwide in November. www.gamespot.com
This means a delay for Japan but essentially on time for the US and a good date for Europe.

Next question..price?

Yeah, I just posted this in the PS3 thread.

I figured all those rumors were true. Too many to not be taken seriously, but man, was it ridiculous. I wished to hell they mentioned the price, 'cause now we gotta go through this crap all over again.

I also figured it was something to do with copywrite protection, because Sony never said what they planed to use, specifically.

Imo that su**s... I would have prefered a launch in Japan first... but whatever....

Yeah...now that we know the release date, the price will be the next most debated thing. How much do you guys think it will cost? I estimate it would be around $500, just like the Xbox 360.

Speaking of Xbox, I think they will bring out something BIG to divert attention from PS3, like Halo 3 or major update to Xbox 360, something in line with that.

If the date holds for ‘all’ territories, this is indeed fantastic news for PAL folk. Nevertheless, if Sony chooses to delay the Oceania release, (xbox 360 yet to be launched down under  ) I’ll import an NTSC/J Asia machine.

Thanks for the heads-up 👍

I really doubt it had anything to do with copywrite protection. EVen if they spent another two montsh getting ready for Copywrite protection, they still only need 3 months to get production in numbers to meet demand. That puts them in an August time frame, three months ahead of november.

I think that this has more to do with them getting production numbers sufficient enough to deliver to all three markets at the same time and avoid the shortage fiasco that Microsoft currently deals with, and to make headway for manufacturing costs, seeing as how the HDD is now confirmed to be included and to be 60GB vs. the 20GB that is included with the XB360.

But I really don't think copy protection was the "main" issue, possibly an issue, but not the sole reason, or large reason, for delay.

Why does that suck? Sony is taking the time to produce sufficient numbers and establish enough factories to meet the demand and avoid a shortage...what are you smoking, lmao.

I personally would rather them take this time, as they are, to prepare for launch and have enough to go around instead of botching it ala 360.

I agree that this is rather a personal issue of me. Well, you know I always import my consoles from Japan right at the launch and a worldwide release is a problem for me. Kind of. I will probably still buy the Japanese import, since I don't want to miss all those games that never ( or months/years) later make it to Europe. I have about 100 (orginal or course) PS2 games and about 60 of them are japanese, about 30 from the USA and only the smalll rest is from my PAL region.
The worldwide release kind of decimates the advantages of importing the console, since that also means more costs ( shipping, taxes etc ) and with "worldwide release in November su**s" I also meant that I expected to have my japanese PS3 by August or September. November is bad aswell for me personally, since spring 2007 is EXTREMLY busy for my studies in university...
I don't care for shortages tbh, I always got my consoles at the very first moment, it's just a matter of knowledge/instincts and to a certain degree money.

Oh man...

Do you actually play all those 100 games every so often? Insane  Wonder how much you've spent on PS2 and the games

well, I can see what you're saying...but technically the games will probably not be region coded...at least not the BR games...since BR is rumored to share regions with NA and Asia.

We'll know sooner or later...but really...importing is so expensive! And now-a-days it's really not THAT long of a wait for titles to come over to the US.

MGS3 came out in the US first.
MGS3Subsistence only released in Japan first because of isolated technical issues and testing.
MGS2 was US first.
KH2 only came out what, a month and a half ago? And will release in a week or so.
Tekken 5 released at the same time, as will Tekken 5 DR on the PSP

I don't know, it's just not really worth the extra money for what, the extra month of play time? I'd save your money and dedicate it to something else ;)

Huh? 60GB HDD? Where'd you hear this? Game Watch never said anything about a HDD, and they usually report everything! Interesting stuff... Maybe the a BD-R in there, too. Huh? I guy can only hope...

Actually not. I play them when I buy them and collect them afterwards. The funny thing is, that I baught about 5 PS2 games in the last 12 months. So my hot PS2 season is over so to say (mainly because of university). I started in April 2000 with the first games ( at that time I payed about 80 Eur / 90$ per game, for TTT even the crazy amount of 120 $) but many of the other games are also bought used on Ebay for 20 -30 $ or so.
In total I have over 400 games for a over a dozen consoles ( from NES to Xbox360). It's my main hobby so to say.

Depends on the games you like.

Battle Gear 2
Battle Gear 3
Shutoukou Battle 0
Shutoukou Battle 01
Touge 3
Kaido Battle
Kaido Battle 2
Kaido Battle 3
Racing Battle c1 grand pric
Initial D
Tokyo Bus Guide
Tokyo Bus Guide 2
Densha De Go 3
Densha De Go Final
Densha De Go *forgot the name ;)*

those games have never been released outside Japan or months later.
or take Ridge Racer 5. I played it in April 00, not at Xmas.
And I love Japan, which makes those games even more special for me.
It IS worth the money imo.

Delay is here because only one - in fact two - reasons:

- unifing BluRay drive format and implementation of nex-gen HDMI output.

BRD will be finalised in April, while 16-bit HDMI (current HDMI is 8/12-bit standard) is on the track for the end of March. The console will probably be assembled for May E3 show-off and then manufacturing starts.

PS3 will come with 60GB HDD and some kind of Linux in-the-box. Welcome enourmous delay of GT5 due to new added implementation of HDD and all those beautiful features that will become reality becuse of HDD as a standard :).

I also awe the HD-support for PSone and PS2 titles - which means playing all GT's on my beutifull still-not-bought-but-I'M-saving-serious-money for-it Pioneer 1080p 50" plasma. :)

We can expect street price of about 400 euros (same in $ respectfuly).

BTW "PSone 2 PSP" emulator brings back some serious tears in my eyes - that could mean playing GT and GT2 all over again - some things are just too good :D.

Nevermind, found it.

Today at the Playstation Business Brief, Ken Katurangi announced that the Playstation 3 will launch in early November worldwide in the North American, Asian, and European territories. He further said that once released, one million units per month will be shipped, with six million coming in 2006.

The following statements were also made about the PS3:

The PS3 will be 100% backwards compatible, and all legacy titles played on the system will be displayed at high-definition resolutions (ala Xbox 360).
All games will ship on Blu-Ray discs. This is to help combat piracy.
A hard drive will be required and the PS3 will ship with it out of the box. It will have a 60GB capacity, be completely upgradeable, and support the Linux OS.
The Playstation 3 online service (mysteriously it does not seem to have been directly referred to as “the HUB”) will feature lobby matching, voice chat and also “commerce features”. The basic version of the service will be free.
Final PS3 dev kits are shipping out to production houses in June. There are also 15 different companies making tools and middleware for the SDK.

But what about region free games ? :indiff:

It's generally all good news as far as I can see. I'm sure Microsoft would have prefered a staggered launch!
Of course Sony does need to get enough PS3's made for such a big launch. What are we looking at, 1,500,000? 2,000,000? More?
And the other thing is what games will be available? I'm sure hideo Kojima said MGS4 wasn't going to be released any earlier than November '06. Could that be a launch game? Imagine that!

Kojima always said it wont be out until 2007. I doubt very much it'll be out before then. I doubt we'll see it before Nov 2007, even.

Nah, we'll see the PS3 by December. All the components are ready now. Sony isn't going to let fussing with a copy protection scheme torpedo their money maker for the holiday season.

November 2007 eh? That's what some 3 years development nearly?
Well, there's still going to be speculation as to what games will be there at launch. I just hope they're not rush jobs like most of the 360's launch games were. And I know 'cause I've played 'em!

Actually it's closer to 2 years of actual development time.

After MGS3, the team focused primarily on the Online portion of the multi player functions of MGS3:S and MGAC!D.

Development for MGS4 started around Feb 2005.
