[PS4] MONDAYS - Look for us on Project cars 2Finished

I tried out the Merc and it felt a bit like steering a barge after the BMW. I don't know how Andreas makes it go so fast

Although it doesn't stick to the track I'll probably stick to the 2002.

I presume that Sakitto is a fantasy Suzuka substitute? Quite good.

Yes - Sakitto is a substitute for Suzuka which apparently is too expensive, but I actually much prefer Sakitto to the real thing. The short Sakitto layouts are particularly suited to old saloons and other lower powered cars.

The Merc does feel like a barge after the BMW - in fact if the Merc is a sword, the BMW is a scalpel!

We will be finishing our Race Series with some cars that aren't going too be in Project Cars 2. Then starting with Project Cars 2, come and join us for some great races.

@DesertPenguin09 would be most welcome to join us along with any other clean racers who may be lurking, reading this thread. I'm guessing that the time of the races might be a problem as Mr Penguin is based in the USA.

We will be swapping from PC1 to PC2 as swiftly and seamlessly as possible - consistent with a little bit of testing / bug checking - probably about a week after the new game is released. To keep things as seamless as possible we will swap from cars no longer in PC1 to their nearest equivalents in the new game.

Below Monday Transition series starts when the current Historic saloon series ends.

Good race everyone, though I was stuck behind Al driver. He won't give an inch, overtook me on the grass, at spoon curve. Even when I got by, he overtook again.

Then when the leaders come though, they got passed easy:boggled:

I just tried next rounds track - Willow Springs International - with both cars and they felt great. I found the Merc harder to turn - it was easy to run out of road and drive off the track , but possible to stop this by gentle left foot braking and trail braking. I found the BMW about one second faster per lap and easy to turn - the challenge being to stop it spinning out on the final, very high speed bend. It should be a good race!

Sick,
I haven't been following the progress of PC2 release yet, do you know for sure what the release date is? If there is a delay on the release, do you plan to move on to a new season using PC1??

Hi Skip - as John said the game comes out on 22nd. I've preordered my copy in order to get the bonus content.

We will transition to the new game as soon as possible after release, but it may not be immediate - it depends how bug free the game is. Obviously we will need to do a bit of testing. I have made the assumption that the transition cars i.e. Caterham R620 and Porsche GT3 are good enough to drive on default setups like their equivalents in PC1 (Caterham R500 and Ruf GT3). If they are not reasonably drivable we may need to delay the transition or switch to other cars.

I will also be getting the "Season Pass" although I don't know what will be included other than an additional 32 cars and 4 tracks - one of which is Interlagos.

Hopefully the new game will be a good one. There is a lot of Classic and Historic content to try although not as much from the 1960's as I would like.

Round 5 BMW v Merc.jpg

Congratulations to Simba, who with one round remaining, cannot be caught in the championship - very well driven Simba! It would be nice if he had more regular top quality competition such as from his son @Flaco13 and the very fast @jefaais

I have done quite a lot of practise for this round as I love the car and track combination - I wish I could race both the Merc and the BMW as they both are totally different around Willow Springs, but equally enjoyable. I will go with the BMW as I am slightly faster in that car, however I know that I am losing a lot of seconds in the corners as I can lap faster in the Escort which is a slower car.

Until the race enjoy this Willow clip:

With only my brief practice I have to agree that the BMW does feel good around the Springs. As for the corners, well I'm glad you haven't got tyre wear turned on because it's a bit smokey at times. :)

I do notice that there seems to be a greater sense of the elevation changes in Pcars than GT. Which is good.

It looks greener in the video, less sandy.

Yes - there is a much more pronounced feeling of elevation change in PC1 than GT6, but with Laguna Seca it is the other way round - it looks almost flat in PC1 and much more realistic in GT - so swings and roundabouts!

Hi Skip how are you? Release date is 22 Sept, here, so should be same there.
Hi John...
Have good days and bad days. Thanks for asking!
I have been practicing when I can...but still no stamina. I am told my meds are slowing me down right now.
I see Sick took me off the participant roster...as it should be. Really don't know when I will be back. Go get em John!!!

There is a space reserved for you Skip - get well soon and come back mate - we are all thinking of you.

If you get the new game maybe you could try some gentle driving on some of the new tracks - perhaps in some of the road cars.

Any time you want to drop in on a race meeting, just go ahead - if you're not feeling up to racing maybe you could spectate.

Sorry to hear you are unwell @Skip7950. Hoping you soon make a full recovery. 👍

Damn I forgot to save the race - again. I was going to watch the pileup at the start, I've never seen AI lagging before! Very odd things going on.
Every time I start from last place I always seem to benefit from some incident on the first lap. It must be the special "nuke the opposition" button I have mapped. :P

Congratulations to Andreas on his race and overall win.

Good to from you Skip:tup:👍👍

Al were lagging really bad, Mustang was all over the place in practice.
Start bad too, one car was bouncing on the line, I got tangled up.
The new guys didn't off well, that's why asked for restart. Not as easy for restart.

I stopped after first lap then started, couple laps down, hope didn't get in anyone's way.:ouch:

asked for restart
Can you do that in Pcars? I'd have certainly been up for it since it was a bit of a mess at the start.

Yeah that Mustang! It really was all over the place. Not sure how that is possible for AI. Its position has to be updated to all the various PS4s so there must have been some fault with that I suppose. The human driven cars appeared fine to me.

I think we start a new room If, not as easy Gran Torismo, were it possible. The two guys that left they had a problem. Bouncing car disapared when one them went.

Round 6 BMW v Merc.jpg

Race Report - Round 6 from Willow Springs International

First - congratulations to SimbaLora on the race win and championship win. I think he will have more competition in the coming series.

What a strange race! Very disappointing for everyone and especially @U41K_ST8 and @Daley87 who had their races ruined by technical problems. Note - I generally avoid restarts on Project Cars due to scheduling and other difficulties. Just before the start the pole sitters car was bouncing up and down and a message "Syncing" appeared on my screen. There was a long delay and then the lights went green - I could see that the bouncing car had not moved so tried to steer around it, but accidentally clipped the back. In my mirror I could see total carnage with a car flying into the air. When I completed the first lap there was still a car bouncing up and down on the start line and it remained there for a few laps.

At first I was worried about damage to the front of my car, but decided not to pit as it felt ok and was steering straight, but possibly there was something wrong as I couldn't get near my qualifying time and every lap I was three or four seconds off the pace I had been running earlier.

@Napalm_LT made an excellent debut with a fine podium and the underdog @IfAndOr stormed through the field from the back row to claim second spot after missing qualifying. Another fine win from SimbaLora, but @U41K_ST8 had taken the pole in qualifying and no doubt was on for a very good result and would have mounted a strong challenge
.
Next week a new series for the Caterham R500. As Project Cars 2 is being released on Friday 22nd September this will be run as a TRANSITION series - we will start the series on PC1 with the Caterham R500 then, as soon as possible (following a bit of testing), switch to PC2 and the Caterham R620 (the R500 has been replaced with an even faster and more exciting car!). The thread, including the title, will be updated to advertise the new series.

Caterham R500.jpg

How to know - where is a real driver and where is AI?

We were using the BMW 2002 SW and Merc AMG 6.8 so any other cars would be AI. Also sometimes the AI use the same cars, but you will soon become familiar with the names of your fellow human racers. Also the AI are normally slower than the humans as they are set at level 40 - if you do a bit of practise with them at level 40 you will become familiar with what line they take on the track and where it is safest to pass.

I think we start a new room If, not as easy Gran Torismo, were it possible. The two guys that left they had a problem. Bouncing car disapared when one them went.

It's not so easy to do a restart in Project Cars - I think we have done it once for a mass disconnection / track freeze - it was probably Silverstone Classic which we learnt not to use. Generally I won't do a restart because of the effect on the schedule and also there is no guarantee that the same problem won't happen again. Hopefully we will be ok at the next meeting and next week - the bouncing car / syncing problem is not one I've seen before.

Next Round - Le Circuit Bugatti - R500 Caterham

Thanks for the congrats, mates

Just want to notice that the tyre temperature is very important in Pcars, especially at Willows. Too low means no grip and too hight even less grip. The BMW is able to drive three fast laps before the tyres gets too hot then you need two or three moderate laps to cool them down again. I believe that it was even worse with the Mercedes (tank).

 first we all should have some fun out there.

Cheers

I noticed this as I was trying to catch you up! The trouble was with your pace I didn't get chance to put any moderate laps in. :)
I'd warmed them up too much in drawing nearer to you that they went off and I eventually had to drop back.

Hi sick.. what are we running tonight .
Are we moving to pcars2 ?
Not seen any links just see ps message saying something like this...!

Yes - I've really enjoyed PC2 and as a result don't want to go back to PC1 (apologies @IfAndOr ) so we will switch to PC2 as soon as possible. We will do some testing tonight (Monday) and Wednesday.

The plan is to test the Porsche GT3 on pC2 on Wednesday and start racing that next week.

For Mondays I have decided to ditch the Caterham - I didn't like the new 620R - both the feel and changes to the cockpit view.

There are some problems with PC2 at the moment so we will run with no AI and no damage or penalties. I want to find out if Silverstone Classic is now bug free so we will try a race there with an old single seater - the Agajanian Watson Roadster.

The Hosting options have been reduced - I can't find a way of restricting the driving aids or view and there is no warmup option. We will try 20 minutes qualifying and a 30 minute race. You should be able to enter during the qualification and have enough spare time to take a comfort break as required.

There doesn't seem to be a way of restricting drivers to default setups, which could be a real problem for our series.

Hopefully some of these things will be patched in later.

@John Wells @AndreasR @JockeP22 @jod08

Sorry was away at Blackpool all weekend, didn't get back till dinner. Then went down to Game to get Project Cars 2. So haven't had chance too look things properly, needs too do updates, to go online. I opened up all the tracks now, old Monza Circuit looks really good and dangerous.

Still need to down load the car pack as well.

So whats made you swap straight over Sick.

Hi John - At first I wasn't sure about the new game, because some of the old cars from PC1 actually seem harder to drive, but then I started trying more cars and tracks and quickly got used to the different feel of the game - now I like it so much that I don't want to go back to the old game!

There are some problems at the moment with damage, penalties and the AI so we will be racing with those off until they are fixed. Also Hosting options were poor in PC1 and (difficult to believe, but) they are even worse in PC2. The game is very quiet (too quiet) so I have had to turn my sound system right up and unfortunately, because it is so quite I can't get my tactile transducers (seat shaker system) to produce any noticeable effects - they are there, but just very feeble.

The feel from most of the cars, that I have tried so far, is very good and some of the cars from PC1 which were boring are now exciting to drive.

The Porsche GT3 feels good so we will be switching over to that on Wednesday's, but the Caterham R620 does not feel so good so I have decided to ditch that series in favour of a new concept for Monday nights - The Career - series which link several cars together which were a feature of a motor racing career in particular decades or formed a significant part in the career of actual drivers. There isn't a Historic Career path in the game, which is a shame in my view because there is so much good Historic content in the game which could be highlighted for the enjoyment of all players of Project Cars 2. I have already planned: "1950's The Career" and "1960's The Career" plus I have ideas for Frank Gardner, Bob Tullius and Desire Wilson careers - some of the them will need more testing!

Thanks to all the guys who were able to take part in the test race this evening - it was very helpful and showed that Silverstone Classic is no longer bugged, plus we had no problems with the online experience during the whole meeting. There are a lot of Hosting options missing, which is strange - perhaps SMS tried to simplify it, but they seem to have gone too far.

Wednesday's will focus on Future Classics and the more recent iconic cars.

I don't want to go back to PC1
Was it something I said?

I noticed you were going to be PC2ing this evening so didn't rush on for 8.30

I'll carry on playing with PC1 for now since I'm finding it quite enjoyable and if nothing else to get my money's worth out of it since I've only just bought it. And Assetto Corsa's AI has just been updated and is really pretty darn good now.

Anyway see you all again at some point. 👍
Just before PC3 I expect. :P

* You're going to have to make a new thread in the PC2 online section Sick.
