After surfacing in a Rainbow Six online game where users of the other team had got a mass messages of "Special" characters that gives the console an error and intentionally crashes the system.
Only known fix to prevent this is to put messages into "Private"
If affected it will end up having to do a factory reset of the console.
Although this could only temporary fix and can be in infinite loop.

As it's getting out Sony should be doing something sooner than later.
Especially if Fortnight gets hit with this message exploit.

@TJ13 - Thanks for the heads up. Set my messages to "Private" until more is known about this issue. Not 100% convinced that it's real, but better to be safe than sorry.

👍

Well it's not technically fixed.
You can still have the crash loop if someone sends you another message.
Messaging app, delete, rebuild, then later on crash loop, app, delete, rebuild etc.

Just because they say they have "fixed" it with the PS Messaging app, doesn't mean it's actually fixed.

Has this been fixed via a console update yet?

I believe so.
Had another update 6.20 just come out and haven't had any issues.

6.20 has no patch notes, so there's no way of telling if it's fixed other than to receive the dodgy message & see what happens...

Do you think every update will tell you that oh we have found and fix an exploit, but have broken other things that can be used against others?

Do we expect updates to have patch notes, especially concerning a very serious issue? Yes.

Do we expect milestone updates to have more information?
6.00 ?
Yes.
Did we?
no.

So? That's relatively mundane compared to something that has complete potential to brick your whole console. That is literally something that should be front and center on patch notes if it was fixed. I really have no idea where the correlation is.
