Results from Spa

Good race everybody, at start, car went in to wall. I was now in last place, so had to battle, with the Al, they were fairly easy to overtake. I could see a red dot on the map, it was Sick, when seen end result. But couldn't catch him, least I did have as many problems, with the Lotus, like BMW.:)

I didn't get any time for pre-race practise at Spa, but as expected and as found in pre-series testing the track was well suited to the speed and power of the Lotus 40. The Can Am and pre-Can Am Big Bangers used to race at Spa back in the day and the track was a regular fixture in the European Interserie races.

I got a reasonable start and managed to improve my lap times significantly, getting a string of 39's, but when Simba dropped back (for repairs in the pits) I got very stressed knowing that a faster driver would soon be over taking and lost 3 seconds a lap. For a while I thought I might be on for a shock podium, but on the last lap an orange mechanical failure signal came up on my screen - I was a bit mystified because I hadn't hit anything. Simba came through and pulled a four second lead on the final lap so I missed out on the podium - Simba deserved it and even without the failure I wouldn't have been able to keep him back. Congratulations to all the podium guys.

apologies for being a bit behind with the championship tables - I'll catch up with these very soon.

This morning I popped into Brands Hatch to check out the "Whelen European Nascar Series", had a drink on the Grand Prix terrace (Diet Coke) and met star drivers Martin Doubek of the Czech Republic and Iranian driver Sam Tehari. They were happy to explain about their cars and pose for pictures - very difficult to drive and see out of, but big power and no downforce makes them great fun was Sam's summary.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to the races on Sunday because of family commitments, but wish these charming and very talented drivers the best of luck this weekend.

Above, the very experienced Sam Tehari has competed in many different cars and series worldwide and is probably Iran's top international driver - he's also an absolute gent!

PS lots more Euro Nascar photos on the club thread!

Just a quick reminder that tonight we will be racing the Lotus 40 at Brands Hatch GP. This short clip shows a 1966 McLaren M1B - hopefully this car and a few other period competitors get added to Project Cars 2 as the Lotus 40 currently has no competition:

Guys, I need to miss one more race today. Not quite physically ready to go yet. Am now aiming for return on Monday, the 26th. Have a good race!!

Just a quick reminder that we are at Road America today. That gives me the excuse to share this video of the very talented Jim Pace racing a McLaren M6B against a McLaren M8 and Shadow DN4:

It was a good race, albeit with low numbers (4) and Mr Tree sufferred a disconnection. Tiger Paw was very strong in qualifying and took the race win. John Wells finished second. I sufferred a mechanical failure with nearly ten minutes left to go - perhaps I should have pitted as I couldn't control the car after that (sorry about the bump John).

No worries Sick, I saw you spin, didn't know you had damage. Was trying to let you back again, but pace, fell off. Mr Tree was having a good, until he got disconnection.

I like Road America, a bit like Monza.

Its hard too drive, damaged car, in this game, what did you hit? It is better to, pit get it fixed, drive the car.

Still very good race, even though we were few.

I loved every second of this race! It was thrilling! I had pracriced as to be able to do something and was very mad when this DC happened. :D

I think the heat is not really a friend of the network card in a playstation (no adeqaute cooling either (if I need to be mad at the playstation, used to be a PC-gamer so that does agrevate me)

I should be there on monday for an other thrilling episode!

This car really has to be handled with care, at least with my driving style. For this race, i tried to go much lighter on the brakes, trying to lift and coast to avoid overheating the brakes. That was my initial plan which failed a bit as Sick had a race pace 4sec faster than his qualifying pace. So the first 3-4laps i was under constant pressure which lead to much more intense braking than planned. With 5 minutes to go my brakes, especially front left, were totally shut which forced me into the pits. I guess my fellow racers faced the same issues as i managed to get out ahead to take the car to the finish line.

Good, interesting race. Thanks everyone for good racing!

You can adjust brake balance during the race, but one have to know when and if it´s for front or rear breakes. If your front breakes are getting hot you can adjust the breaking power more to the rear, until the temperature gets equal.
You can chose your buttons where you can increase or decrease breaking at the options.

On my T500 its L3 and R3

Ohh, does this work when setups are locked?

I use to use designated buttons for the brakes but when starting to race with Sick i mapped those buttons for something else. (morebuttonstothepeople)

Round 4 Road America.jpg

Above - if I have missed off disconnection points for anyone who attended, but didn't show in the results - please let me know and I'll add them to sheet. At the moment Tigerpaw is looking very strong for the championship, but Jefaais and Simba Lora are also excellent drivers who could scoop some top results in the final two rounds.

During the race I was able to lap faster than my qualifying pace because I was able to copy the lines and braking points of Tiger Paw, however after I made a few mistakes, he pulled away and I could not maintain a fast pace on my own. Three times now I have suffered a mechanical failure during the last third of the race - next time I will enter the pits for repairs as I think this would lose less time.

It is a bit unrealistic that the brakes are failing after 20 minutes of racing - these were not good cars, but they used to race for between 2 and 6 hours, without too many problems (apart from the time that Frank Gardner suffered a snapped chassis and somehow managed to coax his ill-handling car over the line for a podium!).

Next round is at Silverstone GP which provides the excuse to show this highlights clip from last years Silverstone Classic:

Next Round 5 from Silverstone GP

Have you been to Silverstone to watch races Sick? I wish MotoGP would go back to Donnington.
