[PS4] WEDNESDAYS - Join us on Project Cars 2Finished

Have you been to Silverstone to watch races Sick? I wish MotoGP would go back to Donnington.

No - it's a long way and being so flat it isn't good for spectators. I'm not a fan of ex-airfield tracks like Silverstone. I include it in our races because it has some good fast corners and is appropriate for fast cars like the Lotus 40. I find the flatness of it makes the track very difficult to drive - the corner entry and exit points and braking zones are very difficult to judge - I expect to do badly next Wednesday!

I've been to Northampton, not for races, a long way and I wasn't driving!:boggled:

I don't mind track, like Thruxton, Croft, Snetterton.

At Silverstone I've heard, your far back from track, so don't close.

Next two weeks I will be missing because of holiday :D

Have a nice time see you all again on the track

Cheers

Have a great holiday Simba!

I must admit I hate the Silverstone track and find it virtually impossible, probably because it's so flat and featureless. Tonight was probably my worst race ever - I just couldn't get the car to turn - first time I've ever had to use full lock in a car and still been unable to get round corners even at walking pace.

Apologies to anyone else who struggled or hates the track. It had to be on the schedule because Silverstone was one of the key tracks in the European schedule for these types of car.

Welcome back Rich. Congratulations to the podium men: SimbaLora, Tiger Paw and Rich.

I don't mind Silverstone, just complex before Wellington Straight, love Woodcut and Copes.
The car was difficult, to turn, though in places, got a bad start, but could see Sick for most of race. Just wasn't close enough, too have a battle.

Welcome back rich.

Have nice holiday Simba.

Congratulations to TigerPaw - "Colin Chapman Tribute" Lotus 40 Champion - congratulations on securing the championship with one round left to go and congratulations on his promotion to the top level of license for "Sick's Race Room" - a level reserved for Champions!

Round 5 Silverstone GP.jpg

The eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed that the Platinum, Gold and Silver licenses have been replaced with Pro+, Pro and AM. This change was inspired by watching recent Blancpain Endurance race coverage where they also split the drivers into Pro and Am. On GT5 and GT6 I sometimes used the different license to assign cars with different performance levels in order to get closer racing.

Congratulations to @jefaais who has shown consistent speed and is thereore promoted to Pro. License classification: Pro+ = championship winner (one or more in "Sick's race Room"), Pro = shows consistent speed, Am = normal level driver including novice, Sick Cylinder and developing drivers who do not yet show consistent speed (i.e. not yet achieving regular podium results in a full room).

The next round of this championship at Watkins Glen is our final round with the Lotus 40 after which we switch to the Type 49 - Am graded drivers will use the winged version (Type 49C) while Pro and Pro+ drivers will use the wingless version (Type 49). This will create a visual spectacle very similar to the reality of history when F1 was in the process of adopting aerodynamic aids and some teams used wings while others didn't. Drivers even switched between winged and wingless during a race weekend in the search for ultimate speed.

Have a great holiday SimbaLora / @AndreasR and don't forget to return to the Wednesday championship in the wingless Type 49!

Next Round 6 - Final Round from Watkins Glen - note we have spaces available for anyone who wants to try online racing or who is already experienced - we also have spaces in our Monday Historic Saloons Series which is currently racing the Ford Escort Mark One RS1600.

Thanks Sick

But..if Andreas would have had a better start of the championship or jefaais had a better end, the outcome could/would have been different.

For last nights race i'm happy that my brakes made it to the finish line for the first time this season. So...no mechanical failure but i had to lift and coast for the entire race, except a few laps when i tried to catch Simba.

I had a decent start with medium wheelspin. I lost a position in turn 4 but managed to take it back on the next lap. Simba was 4 sec ahead at that time but i think he was saving his material the following laps as i could catch him 3-4laps later and follow him for a few laps until i went wide in brooklands and lost a couple of seconds. At that time Simba upped his pace and extended his lead lap by lap until his well deserved win.
Thanks for the racing everyone!

Im really looking forward to the next season:-)

Dor the 49C can we take rhz slick tires? Or is that considered tuning?

No - We just use the standard tyres that the car comes with. The period of F1 that we are replicating used treaded tyres.

Can I take the black and yellow 31?

Yes - I was going to use black and yellow, but I have now changed to Light Blue and Yellow 15.

The Type 49C colours and numbers selected so far are:
Skip - Dark Green and Gold 7
Sick - Light Blue and Yellow 15
John - Orange and Green 25
Mr Tree - Black and Yellow 31

The following are still available for the Type 49C (Winged) - Am Drivers:
Team Lotus 2 OR 3
Dark Blue and White 10
Light Blue and White 22
Dark Green and White 4 OR 5
Green and Yellow 20
White and Colour Stripes 8 OR 9

The Type 49 (No Wing) colours and numbers selected so far are:
Tiger Paw / Longspread - Team Lotus 5

The following are available for the Type 49 (No Wing) - Pro and Pro+ Drivers:
Green and Gold 1
Team Mixlub 9 OR 10
Dark Blue 16
Yellow and Green 19
Green and Gold 26
White and Yellow 21
Dark Green 3
Green and Orange 11 OR 12
Light Blue 23 OR 24

Just a reminder that we are not using the Type 49 / 49C until next week - this Wednesday is the final round (6) of the Lotus 40 championship at Watkins Glen.

I will not be playing this and probably next week. A huge rumble during a slide killed the ffb in my very new logitech g29.

I'm very worried obout this. Did you guys lower ffb power? Or am I just unlucky?

Very sorry to hear that Mr Tree. Try what Longspread said. I haven't done anything to the FFB on Project Cars - I just use default settings on the cars and wheel. With my wheel (Thrustmaster) you can plug it into a laptop and test each of the FFB effects to make sure the wheel is working as intended. I don't know if you can do that with Logitech wheels. It might be worth starting a thread on the Sim Racing Hardware section asking for guidance - after you have tried what Longspread suggested.

Sorry to hear about your wheel.
You probably done it already but have you tried to reinstall the wheel or tested it on other racing games?

No, i'll have my ffb at 100%, T300 though.

If you leave your ps4 on all the time, try rebooting it. I sometimes I lose Ffb on pcars. Rebooting ps4 has always fixed this for me...

Did try that allready :embarrassed:
At the end of the day suddenly I had ffb but there was a certain notch in some turns where it wasn't present before.
And on the karts where you have to tur' rather quick it ratlles louder then normal when turning my wheel out of a turn.

Round 6 from Watkins Glen - Congratulations again to our series champion TigerPaw (Longspread)

Round 6.jpg

On the Wednesday morning I decided to do a practise race in the Lotus 40, but something strange happened to the wheel - it was turned up so high that I could hardly turn it! I qualified 43rd!

When the race came the wheel was thankfully normal again and I qualified last of the humans, but ahead of the AI. I made up one place off the line. The racing was very close in the opening laps. I noticed Rich going slowly on the left of the track so I went to rush past on the right, but suddenly his car changed line and unfortunately I rammed the back of him - many apologies Rich, but I just couldn't avoid the collision. I stayed behind Rich - not sure if his car was damaged - mine didn't appear to be. After a while I got into second behind TigerPaw and Rich left - disconnected?

TigerPaws qualifying pace was much faster than mine and during the first stage of the race he seemed to be deliberately holding a slower than normal (for him) pace. After a few more laps he upped his pace and just disappeared into the distance - later I assumed that he had gone off track because suddenly the game was indicating that I was first with John second - I didn't realise that TigerPaw had pitted. John had qualified ahead of me and was driving really well in practise and qualifying.

Suddenly TigerPaw was showing in second place
:

I don't know how, but despite there being quite a few minutes (8 or 10?) left of the race and despite TigerPaw being a much faster driver, I managed to stay ahead to take a (very rare) race win! A couple of times TigerPaw came past, but each time he ran wide and I was able to get the place back - I focussed on trying to hug the inside of each corner without getting hooked up on the raised kerbs - amazingly it worked. Amazingly two wins in one week - I think those are my first in at least five years!

Next Championship - Season 3 Lotus 49

The thread has been updated for the new season. If you haven't done so yet, please choose your livery - the available ones are listed on page one. Note @richroo - I have moved you from Pro to Am so you can use the 49C (with wings) - I think you will be very competitive in that class.

Also on page one - I have updated the Inspiration section including the initial history background to the car and how it partly came about as a result of a bungled negotiation between Britain and the FIA - feel free to read that and comment and also please take time to watch one of the greatest motorsport documentaries of all time - "9 days in summer" - it tells the story of the design and very early development of the Lotus 49 and the Ford Cosworth DFV engine - the link is on page one. Here is a short taster clip:

Next Round 0 Test Day from Sonoma Raceway Short - we have spaces for clean drivers to join this championship - online novices or experienced old hands welcome.

Sick!

My initial thought was to save the material to last for the whole race, so i tried to keep a pace that would work but also to keep a safe distance to the cars behind. Unfortunately i had two major lockups which "forced" me to pit.

About trying to pass you: yes i got my nose ahead of yours but always on the dirty side of the braking zone which lead to lockups and going off road. Even though i might be faster than you on some tracks, my braking spots are earlier than yours which make it hard to pass you in the braking zones. Add to that the fact that you drove this narrow track almost perfect in defensive-mode. That we earlier this season had a few clashes together also added to my lack of hardcore attack, especially after my lockups..this being season finale and all.
But i made a serious attempt in the final turn on the last lap, when i saw you running a bit wide and left an opening on the inside. Unfortunately i hitted one of the invisible landmine/wall which i havent encounter for half a year.

Sick!

Jefaais says he wants to join tonights series as well, but he can't log in at the moment.

Hopefully he will be able to join. I haven't opened the room yet - still eating dinner

Just a quick reminder that today is test round 0 - @jefaais and @Longspread should be Lotus 49, Sick, @John Wells and @richroo should be Lotus 49C (Winged). We'll do a couple of 10 minute qualifications with short 5 minute races to test things out.

I'm going to open up the room now - see you on track soon!

Test Round 0 from Sonoma Raceway Short

Thank you to everyone who attended the Test Round. I will try reducing the AI level from 30 to 20 next week. The separation between Pro and Am seemed to work well with some close times. Attendance numbers were low, but hopefully @AndreasR (SimbaLora) will be back from holiday next week. Hopefully @Mr Tree will return soon - I know he has been having trouble with his wheel and also hopefully @richroo will be able to attande Round 1. With a mix of 49's for the Pro's and 49C's for the AM's this could be a really enjoyable championship if we can get at least 6 racers to attend eavh week.

The championship will be scored overall plus there will be a seperate championship for the Pro's, the winner of which will be upgraded to Pro+ at the end of the 6 rounds.

Second race got wheel off, by the al, so had to retire to pits, then left early.
With open wheelers think work better if al turned down to 20.

Jefaais try this for practice, set al 40, have full grid, start at the back. Gets you use to the al, you have to be careful, to pass the al, their usauly slower in the corner.

I had great fun yesterday, despite being a bit behind. Hopefully i can catch up until next week:). It seems like this season we're gonna have some close racing.

My thoughts about the AI and their behaviour/pace: I find the AI quite good actually, the best in any racing game i've tried. BUT, you really have to have the same pace as them to enjoy or battle with them. When i practise with them i usually set them between 80-100% and if driving properly and not divebombing on the inside they usually give you enough space when you're entitled to it. When having the ai on much lower settings than your actual pace, you usually catch up with them much quicker at the breaking zones so they don't have time to react on your existence. On lower settings the ai also have different (worse) driving behaviour than they use on higher difficulty imo.

It would be interesting to try two short races, one with ai on lets say 30% and the other with ai on around 80% and see what comes out of it..
