Many of the fast guys don't actually bother with the official GT events. GT academy usually gets them crawling out the woodwork. Some of the inter-forum championships get the fast guys interested also.
It's fair to say that this time trial board isn't representative of the fastest drivers, although from memory FAK is very fast, one of the fastest guys I've ever met anyway. Even then, I doubt the likes of FAK have spent all that much time on it.
For those who want to find strong competition, its probably better to search this place or other forums for some of the major competitions, many of the fastest racers will appear in them.
Only because Dan gave up after about 2-3 weeks in with around a month to go, when he was comfortably ahead, setting the pace with everybody catching, what Ti-tech done was abit sad i think, didnt do himself any favours. I wouldnt even know were to start on some of the records Dan has done.
Would like to see how Huttu or Towler would fair vs the console time trialers. I find it a bit of a shame that so much of it comes down to setup, would be alot closer if they were done with fixed setup cars, ie stock.
Haha, just saying how is it, you got beef with him or something?
For me that time will come later.. now I have far more important things to focus on. No other reasons..
We'll have many years to do the hotlapping I'm sure..![]()

A question for any of the skills crew - how much time do you gain from tuning? What is the difference between your current times and the time you would get if you set all the tuning options to default? Cheers.

On the Cape ring inside time trial I had a 56.605 which was done with a pretty much stock setup (might have been slower than stock because of 1-7 rollbars which made it understeer horribly.) Ive now got a 55.93x with the tune.
No Mau5_Skills looks silly.Ha, didn't know it was you Dan, change your username! >:|

No offence taken, my grammer hasn't always been great lol, but it has been steadily improving due to the amount of comments ive had in the past on other forums due to it
personally i am liking gt5 quite allot, my main love is iRacing. its the game i left forza to play and once i became a whell user i couldnt bring myself to play forza any more, its not a bad game but the wheel coding is alot better here on gt5 and that in itself makes this a much more enjoyably game amongst other features.
I'm sure most have noticed that altho we came from forza we arn't a bunch of forza fanboys, in the FM2 days its probably fair to say we were, but forza 3 just didn't live up to exspectations and many of us stopped playing properly many months ago. wich is probably why no wars have broken out
I don't beleave anyone from Skills has come to GT5 with i idea in there head that they age going to be the best, we all know there is many fast guys that have been here for a while, altho some of are faster guys are looking forward to trying to give them a good run for there money. we usaly are a competitive bunch of individuals in regards to setting fast times, trying to beat each other and helping each other get faster sharing tuning ideas etc.
i think its fair to say that the community here at gt planet is much more mature and generaly more friendly than the forza forums ( maybe the average age is higher here or more people just act there age) and we have all been made to feel very welcome among the community, thanks guys![]()
We are currently using our Xbox 360s for party chat whilst playing GT5. Silly really that we're having to do this because its a feature that should be on the PS3.
I shall send you a PM with my tune for London if you like as its an excellent tune although you will be amazed at the settings!
Well im now in 4th place with a 55.838. Only :100 off daveys time.Great thanks! I'd love to see that tune and very excited to use it and see the settings... I'll keep them to myself for sure.
I'm still using xbla for party chat in GT also... but with the TV, xbox, and PS3 all going my room temperature goes up about 10 degrees in less than an hour!![]()
First of all..Thanks for the great thread guys.I recognise all these names from WAY back.(I'm 57)My quesion is about the Logitech wheel.I've done countless searches but not much info on the thing that bothers me.I can't feel the road when I go over cobblestone or feel the sliding when wheels lose traction like I can with controller.I've got a good solid setup and my settings are...Simulation and FF at 7...only assist is abs 1.
I can live with the deadzone problem but this just feels wrong not being able to feel slides...What wheel and settings do you guys use and what are your thoughts on this.

So difficult to keep it together on that last bend knowing your on a fast lap!
Send you the PM now.
Well the Fanatec is the same, + it wobbles on straights/twitches unless you make it really un-responsive :/

If you are using a fanatec, turn up the damping effect on the wheel and it will help get rid of wheel wobble, its meant for games with no FFB but it helps alot to fix problems like thisI actually think this is intentional, when I watch Bob in the RM Z06 the tracks (some, Nuremberg is most obvious) are VERY bumpy and the wheel appears to be responding as if there is no dampening between the steering rack and wheel like in a real car... This might also be why there is no dead zone setting as all that bumpy feedback could be dialed out...
Just a thought as dead-zone settings are a very standard settings (not just driving games) and even makes it easier for the developers to support other wheels/controllers and not write "drivers" for each peripheral... So its more effort to leave the setting out than to put it in...
I was planning on doing it, it looks like it will be good fun.So are any of you _Skills guys planning on running the GTP registery qualifier and sticking round for some serious competition?

I think the difference is HUGE. Me trying real world style tunes got me maybe to 180th or so. But once i got a tip thats that doesnt always work in GT, i tried some outrageous set ups and then BAM i was 19th (197Bhp FWD).
Went camping for a couple days so im glad to see was still 21st when the TT finished.
I found the same thing. Was struggling in 197/FWD Kusabi in 167th. Then reviewed some of the leaders replays, and reverse engineered what I could from those replays, ending up 37th in the close of the event. Would be interesting now the event is closed if anyone interested to post up my tune and have comments what I could have changed to improve. This way I could relate my "real world" understanding to the GT5 physics for other events.
Currently found the same thing in London as well. Couldn't even get in the top 260, noticed from the replays the gearing and jacked up front end on the leader replays and the "rally" style hook entry into the right hander after the fast flip-flop and straight into 61st place. Most importantly I've found the LSD to be even more crucial than the suspension itself. Can't quite understand why? Anyone care to explain.
