In regards to the Lsd,I thought a higher decel caused the rear wheels to lock together more which would cause oversteer. Or at least I would think...irl

They do lock more, but that causes understeer, not oversteer. Think of locking as putting the wheels on a single stiff axle. When you go around a corner, the outside wheel wants to turn faster than the inside because it's corner radius is bigger. But when it is locked to the inside it can not go faster than that, so you get a braking effect on your outside, which means the car will not turn - it will understeer.

I apologize for not beeing around on race day but I had a few unexpected visitors on Sunday and I really coudn't find the time for racing. I'll be racing in Spa for sure.

All welcome!
Race start 1 hour and 20 min from this post.

Tricky question.
Sometimes I run 5 decel to prevent oversteer on entry, sometimes I run very high. (30-50)
All-in-all I've found the most oversteer is found with the decel in the range of 10-25, with more understeer in the very low numbers and very high numbers for decel.

The one catch to using a high LSD to prevent wheel spin or lock, is that when it goes, boy does it go. Instead of the inside locking or spinning and giving you a verbal warning, the outside (grip) tire breaks traction first and by the time you know that's happened, you're already sliding a lot.

All welcome!

Wanted to, just beat from staying up too late last night though.

Regarding LSD, to me, the settings, and over/understeer snap/progressive oversteer very much have to do with other settings as well.
Like a rear toe set to -0.XX won't have the same effect with a low acceleration number.
So a higher acceleration number in co-op with a -0.XX rear toe can actually give more oversteer in contradiction to what the acceleration number alone says.

Should be good to race for Sunday. Will I be racing for YMS or as an independent driver?

Yellowhat same as before... we didn't remove you just bumped up the team to 4 cars. We did this everywhere there was low participation. In the future I think we'll always use the n+2 formula for scoring teams. Two absences on one team is more likely than anticipated.

On a related note... Quali Tracker for Round 6 is up.

Concur.
At least before... Still not convinced any negative rear toe is a good thing anymore. I used to run up to -.60 too.
Camber also (at least used to) have an effect with lsd. High lsd works better with high camber, and low lsd seems to work better with lower camber. I would imagine due to the angle of the wheel that gets the most power.
More camber for high lsd, so the outside wheel has grip, less camber for low lsd, so the inside tire has more grip.(acceleration, inside tires have very little effective cornering grip)

Yeah my teams getting bad with attendance, we'd like a 4th please. :)

:p

Love the title for this weeks race!!!
I do too, that Ed's a clever s o b.

Alright already! I'm missing one race and the complaining begins. I'll be back this week, so we should be getting two points-finishes. Help in the points standings for Team Ototo would always be appreciated, of course. It's true that the third driver spot seems to be on rotation a lot ... :sly:

dude you've had a 4th for 2 weeks now. :p

And Denso ran as a 2 man operation until we got JTV to sign on board, so I don't want to hear it. (that panoz guy has been pretty AWOL) :E

I meant it's been mostly just the two of us that I recall, but I didn't know we had maxking. :dunce:

:dopey:
And hey, I never said team Denso was over-stocked. :p

Fast Lap bonus has been added and results solidified for Round 5.

I guess I just lost so much time ice skating that I should have done a 3-stopper.

At no point during the race was I having even an ounce of fun.

I'm going to think this over during the week. Chances are I won't be back. Have fun guys.

You know you're in 5th place only 4 points off the podium right?
(maybe you're different but success is usually fun for me)

Practice room up
1472-6118-3701-4254-3372

Edit: something I noticed with Spa is it seems there's a more definite groove to run in. Outside of this groove, there's not much grip. I guess others have noticed this? Or am I behind on noticing this? Seems new to me...

Edit 2: Room closed

Always been there. The groove is also very noticeable at der Nurburgring GP.

It took a lot longer than expected but the practice board is up and running.

I do recommend reading the help document. It should answer any usability questions.

Awesome!
Just typed my PB in. Could'nt remember the exact time, but will update it along with my splits (got it on replay) once I fire up the PS3 tomorrow. 👍

That practice board is really cool, wish we had it a long time ago. 👍
 Tim

yeah, thanks... it took significantly more development effort than I was expecting. This being only the second webware development project of this scale that I've taken on I always forget how much pre-planning goes into getting everything right and efficient the first time ;)

... But now it's another plug-in I can stick on any series though still a few more features to stuff in there... like highlighting "purple" sectors and giving admins elevated power to delete whatever they want.

Those layers of frosting will probably wait until I get some ambition to intersect with time off over the winter to do a major version update and get everything out of "make it work" beta mode into a more elegant application structure.

I wasn't going to ask, but since you'll be modifying it anyway...

Some way to put in essentially a mock race. 20 laps for example, (formatted as sectors I imagine would be the easy way) totaling a mock race.
For testing/parity purposes.

If it's a pain in the ass don't worry about it, I can always use the mightier than sword pen, but if it's not hard that'd be awesome.👍

Actually that would be pretty complicated. To have it work right I'd have to make a special "one-off" unscored practice race, which I had planned on doing eventually to support pre-season races... but it's not something I could easily shoehorn into the practice lap board.

That will come with the major upgrade as I'll be putting in lots of management tools for creating series and races ad-hoc from the website. Then it will be easy.

on a completely unrelated note... Happy Birthday WiiFreak!

Just got home from Austin. Gonna catch up with the thread later tonight in between shows at work but noticed the update on the practice board; brilliant stuff 👍

No problem, when you can, if you can. 👍

Hi Ed, welcome back. :)

There is and I must be blind since I have trouble following it...

...but here, I know it like the back of my hand. That's probably why I'm so good there.

Anyways, this will probably be my last post until Monday, so enjoy your respective races. 👍

Sorry I didn't catch it before, but what're you doing till Monday?
