Greetings All!
I come before this esteemed body to present a challenge, and I am here to guage interest. I, being of Ye Olde Skool, wish to offer a time/distance rally series.
The premise is as follows: I will select a different vehicle each week, and I will run the ring, no holds barred. I will post only the total time in the race thread, and I will also note the split times, they will be known only to me. The challenge is to select a vehicle from the weekly parameters that I set, and to try and come as close to the split times and total time as possible without coming in under those times. The winner each week will be the driver who comes closest to all times. The tie breaker if needed, will be the one who selects a vehicle as close to my car in configuration, and type as possible. For Example, the first week may have the rules:
Rear Drive, Front Engined,1950-1965, this gives an opportunity to select a car that fits your driving style. The first car I may select might be the MB Gullwing, a fifties era rear drive.
The second week I might set front drive, front engine, 1972-1984.
I will run the ring each week in the same direction, for 6 weeks. I will run all out, no sand bagging. The only modifications will be to tires, you may select any compound you wish.
I will establish a thread to post all times, and anounce a winner weekly. I propose to limit the number of entries, and everyone will be on the honor system.
First place:5 points
Second Place:4 points
Third Place:3 points
Fourth Place:1 Point
The eventual champion will be the one who has the best cumulative score over 6 weeks.
Let me know your opinions, and your interest level.
I await your replies

An old school event 👍 I think I'll take part in this "series", since I've also been wanting to do something like these in RL. :)

Good Squire,
Your participation is indeed welcome! I will set up a thread for this little group of racers, since I have several PM's concerning this challenge! I will keep you posted!

Thank you very much kind Sir! One is most pleased, and will be keeping a check on this fine idea of yours. Have a spiffing day old chap, and I might see one at the country club as well, if one is there. A good day to you.

As we discussed, Fangio, I'd certainly be interested in participating. :)

This sounds like a lot of fun, and something I would be seriously interested in participating in. Let me ask for a clarification on something though.

Let's assume that you did announce the week's rally would be for Rear Drive, Front Engined,1950-1965 as in your example. This would mean, I assume, I could choose a '62 Lotus Elan if I felt that was the best car to use, correct? Now, the part I'm unclear about is the "The only modifications will be to tires, you may select any compound you wish" rule. This means I must run the Elan completely stock with the sole exception that I could fit S3's (or R3's) if I chose? No other mods, no FC transmissions, not even an oil change?

Also, would this be in Arcade mode or GT mode (practice session), or competitors' choice?

I'd suggest we post our lap times but must PM you with our splits, sort of the reverse of the WRS series, with the splits then being posted at week's end.

Anyhow, sounds like fun!

Let's get it started... Let's get it started in here :)

Greetings Good Squire,
I will finalize all rules this evening, but we will be running in arcade mode, for the simplicity of management, but car selection is entirely up to the participant as long as it meets the parameters I set. And tires are the only mods, as I am trying to keep to the spirit of the old school rally's I used to participate in.
This is about skill in timing and less about all out performance. I am most glad you have decided to join this Band Of Merry Pranksters, I look forward to round one!

Greetings Good Squire,
I'm glad to see the UK represented here! You are indeed most welcome. I will post the line up, and all rules tonight, as well as the first times, as I'm permitted.

Greetings Don Jose,
Participation is good! And ia have received times from 2 participants so far, but as the deadline for this week is 6/16/2007 at midnight Pacific time I don't expect many times until the middle of the week. So be of patience Good Sir!
Post your splits here to share with all the others, and good luck!

This sounds great! If I might be so bold as to say count me in. I am looking for something to get the rusty thumbs lubricated again.

Greetings Lord Overseer,
I am humbled that thou wouldst wish to participate. Ye are indeed most welcome! I will forward the PM I sent to the others to clarify the rules and deadlines. Welcome Good Sir! And the best of luck to you!

I just reread the thread, and it should be interesting to see how some of us stack up against Jordan. As for myself, I am certainly having some fun trying to tame the Ginetta G4 that I have opted to run. I have had little if any experience driving the early 60s sports cars, let alone stock! The G4 seems quite tail happy, which makes for some interesting 'tank slapping' action at high speeds due to the undulating and bumpy nature of the curcuit, and allows easy mid-corner correction using the throttle. Sorry for the slightly long winded write-up, but I get a little carried away sometimes.

well i wont have any more time to improve on my times:nervous: so here they are:

T1 - 56.691
T2 - 1'40.246
T3 - 2'15.223

T5 - 4'02.969
T6 - 4'34.126
T7 - 5'34.142
T8 - 6'24.695
T9 - 6'50.747
T10 - 7'41.693
T11 - 8'10.978

my car i was using is the shelby mustang nothing changed apart from tyres and they were medium all round.

Here's my T-Times:

T1: 53.561
T2: 1'36.828
T3: 2'10.924
T4: 3'10.740
T5: 3'56.611
T6: 4'31.366
T7: 5'30.977
T8: 6'20.013
T9: 6'45.763
T10: 7'36.859
T11: 8'06.355

I've also used the Shelby Mustang, without any mods.

Interesting choices. I'm not sure what I will be using yet, but will be going for a car as light as possible. I will post my times up later tonight if I can.

Greetings Squire,
Aussie's are a bit long winded by nature, but are most certainly a great addition to any competition! I am excited by your choice of steed! An Olde Skooler after mine own heart! Tail happiness is a trait that if exploited properly, is an asset on this twisty turny venue! I look forward to the results. And once again, many thanks for your participation!
