I have a Honda "Civic" in the form of the CR-V. Hauling a not-quite-ridiculous amount of stuff requires a wagon like this, and therefore comes in handy. Civics are quite commonplace, but they are the all-round, nearly-perfect little car in its various guises.

I also have a '94 Lexus GS300, very similar to the '91 Toyota Aristo found in the used lots, except there's no turbo in the North American road-going versions. I've only had it just over a month, but it's nice to finally graduate to 6 cylinders.

Did you manage to buy the car cheaper than usual due to the fuel crisis?

I got it cheaper than usual because I work at a big Lexus dealer. People want the latest and greatest cars, so the old ones (8+ years old) get sent to auction right a way. This one was a pearl, so I couldn't let it go. The auction shipments were heavily delayed in the days before and after Hurrican Katrina, so I had plenty of chances to take my pick of the litter.

In any case, few of my customers gripe about fuel economy, since they can afford a Leuxs. Although some do complain, as if there's a "magic siphon" sucking their gasoline right out of the tank. What they don't realize is that the "siphon" is connected to their right foot when they drive.

UPDATE--

cars not done still.. had to reorder clutch and still waiting on a few parts, but we have the engine built up with big bore pistons, race cam, etc etc.. hopefully will be done by new years. at least get it running, looks can wait

It takes awhile. I was lucky when i was 18 and i bought my $1,200 '67 Mustang, the 289 upfront was ready to go, and it had a rebuilt transmission as well. The only thing i had to do was get new rims installed (they came with the car...the sold them to me with the car in other words) and i got it painted as well.

You can see the front of a Peugeot 504 (mom's car) which i later drove for a month and ruined the clutch in while i was trying to show my sister what not to do when driving a stick. On the right hand side in hte 1st pic is the front of a Renault 12 wagon, as well. My parents drove it many years till it died, then we left it in our drive way for years, storing old stuff in it!

Yeah, i wish i still had that one. Nowadays, you can't get them for $1,200 bucks unless they're rusty. :(

I ’test drove’ a '94 Camaro the other day a work after changing the oil on it..it's been so long since i felt that V8 torque, too long. I mean, you see these cars everyday here in America, but i never actually drove one and it's a huge difference from driving one in the game. The whole interior shakes and rumbles at idle, it's a song. When i got back to work, i was high. I had such an adrenaline rush better than any drug!

UPDATE AGAIN-- got the new parts and installed them, intsalled firewall insulation kit, finished putting on the top end of the motor (carb, intake etc) all thats left to do is some trimming on the firewall then we can put in the motor and axles, then hook up all the linkage, throttle and clutch cables blah blah.. were getting close

That's cool. One of the guys in my garage (the youngest one..he's 24) got a '95 Acura Integra a few months ago. When he bought it, he swore he'd try not to modify it since he's already got a modded CRX. The Integra was supposed to be for his daily use and the CRX was more of a race car. Well, like a drug addict, he can't keep his wallet from getting parts for the Integra. So far, he's got lower-profile tires & bigger wheels, new heads, new exaust system, low-resistance air filter..... I keep making fun and i say: ‘ey, i thougt you weren't gonna mod this one up!’

lol i know that feeling. my friend has a '59 karmann ghia that we just lowered yesterday, and my sister just got a '70 vw fastback. im trying to get her to let me lower it and maybe give me her shift knob haha

karmann ghia will be a classic forever. **** you ford for the abuse of the ghia name. One of the greatest names was plundered by ford motor company.

Lets see..... my current veh is a 2000 Mitsu Montero sport 4wd.. 3.5 L v-6... decent accel. but sux gas like a siphon hose... I used to drive a taxi, paid for half of gas, so I know how to drive efficiently; still can't manage better than 16 mpg even on hwy driving.

My first car was a 1981 Honda Civic wagon in silver.. lots of rust-through around wheelwells... had a 1.3L four with a 3bbl carb.... 5-speed man, had to get new clutch and put new tires on it (p155/85/13). Loved that car!! I wonder how much modding it would take? It had decent performance, especially in the 45-70 mph passing range. The 3 bbl worked alot like a 4bbl... it had one tiny barel (pinky size) that it used all the time; the other two (thumb size) barrels only kicked in during hard acceleration, giving it a surprisingly strong accel. in the passing range. Also got 38mpg hwy as long as you didn't kick it in the arse too much!!! LOL

ok another update, even though this seems to be a dying thread haha

engine is in and running (its very loud, my mom gets all pissed when we start it up any time past 10 pm) all the cables are in, i stole the shif knob from my sister like i said i wanted 👍 and now were working on the brakes and suspension, the rear is already lowered and were working on the front. havnt had much time lately cause of weather issues.. i hate leaving my baby out in the rain :grumpy:

Lol, this thread never really dies...it just sleeps for a long time!

Anyways, thanx for the update. Sounds like soon you'll be on the road, dude!

It's not just this thread that doesn't die, old Beetles never die either!:sly:

I'm driving a '92 Prelude VTEC, which ain't bad, and I've also got the bike in my avatar, an '02 GSX-R 750, and a 600 Bandit which is for sale. And, to the annoyance of my neighbours, I've got an old Land Rover sat in the (communal) yard doing nothing. Both the Bandit and the Landie have to go this month as I'm moving soon, but I'm the world's worst procrastinator, so my hopes of actually getting the little buggers sold are pretty low!

Took the GSX-R to the Nurb this summer for the first (but definitely not the only) time, saw 174mph on the speedo on the Belgian motorway (probably a true 160), but still found it weird having Porsches breathing down your neck through the corners on the 'Ring. Petrolheads paradise there, for sure.

My first car was a Hillman Imp, a 60s Mini competitor with a little jewel of an engine, an 875cc aluminium alloy, ohc unit, in the back, which had deliciously direct steering, and very stiff, independent suspension. It drove like a little go-kart:D .

I then progressed to Alfas, most of them borderline knackered, having an Alfetta 1.6GT that someone had put the cams in the wrong way round, and had chipped a valve; then I borrowed an AlfaSud Sprint for a while, followed by my beloved Bertone GTV, a fantastic car (like the GTA in GT4) which blew its engine after I'd had it about 1000m:grumpy:

I then bought my first four door car, a Citroen DS, the only car I've owned that people would describe as beautiful. I described it as a pain, but it was gorgeous.

I laid off the fancy cars after that, going for bikes instead, and I've had so many of those I can't keep track, but the GSX-R has long been an ambition and now I have no wish to change. At least, not until the summer....:dopey:

dang man thats awesome! most ppl here in the good ol' US of A have their first cars being chevy cavs and dodge neons n honda civics (not dissing any of those cars by the way i almost bought a neon) but when you say you drove citroens and alfas and cars like that, i dont think ive even seen those in real life besides at car shows haha.. lucky.. :grumpy:

When i was 10 my family lived in Germany for a year, and i got to ride in a Citroën (forget which model). It was the super aerodynamic one with the 2 lights up near the back of the roofline. And it had an air suspension. It was like riding on a pillow...so smooth man. I'll never forget it. When i lived out in Portland, Oregon there was a guy in my neighborhood who collected Citroëns. He had like 7 or 8 of them: three 2CVs (probly a couple of them were for parts no doubt), an old 2CV milk truck, a couple SM's...i never actually met the dude, but for sure if there's one place where Citroëns can be found in America, it would be on the west coast.

Discussing cars he had ridden in in real life seems too minor to be really considered a hijack.

More like exiting to a service center during a traffic jam.

Nice engine. Nice car too. :D

Got to do some more continuity breaking...

I got the right specs on my 1.5L SOHC engine (in my '93 Civic sedan). Can you believe it makes 102 brake horse power? Guess I shouldn't try to jump across the highway. I might get flattened by soccer moms in SUVs trying to get to the game on time.

I fell down a well but what inspired me to stay alive was the love I have for this forum, and my love for eating crickets.

There is a theory over here that every petrolhead has owned an Alfa at some point (according to J. Clarkson, anyway). I have a picture somewhere of 5 of them outside my Mum's house. All my mates had Alfas back then!

But it's the same for us: Mustangs (esp tuned ones) and other V8 iron are rare sights. But then, petrol (gas) costs about $7 a gallon... You'd think twice about just starting the engine, let alone driving the thing!

ah that sounds like so much fun, im a bit rusty and a long way away tho. does anyone live near lemoore ca or around the fresno area?
