Regarding SOPA and GT planet

So the government wants to kill the internet? F:censored: them, always ruin what is good for us. Only dumb people have this ideas :yuck:

 SOPA in Portuguese means Soup

This has to be buried.

See that TG video up above? That would be removed and Youtube could be 'blacked out' as a result.

YouTube would be the first website to go, with The Pirate Bay next.

The int ernet would be ruined... :(

True, on both accounts.

Now, while I neither favor nor show angst towards pirating this isn't the way to combat or attempt to neutralize it. To be honest, something as ridiculous as this would only encourage far more drastic methods than available now. Do what Steam does; have an online product that has so many options and so many deals that pirating, at least pirating games, becomes not only redundant but nigh-on pointless as well.

The best way to stop piracy in any form is to not encourage it. Whether it be intentional or otherwise.

I would love to see what would happen of Google and YouTube blacked out for even a day. I know for sure they won't but you know.

So eventually it will get to the point that people are going to not know anything because no one can inform them because otherwise the site they are on will be in the 🤬 They are planning to make the world worse off. The idiocy of some people. How will we connect when the sites all get shut down because someone posted a link to a video someone made of them jumping off their bed and hitting the wall? OH WAIT!!! Youtube will be gone so that can't happen. Music may be affected too, how do we know when a new album is going to come out from our favourite bands, their Official sites will get shut down when they advertise to buy tickets at blablabla.com. We won't be able to discover anything new, eventually we won't be able to purchase things from overseas. And LASTLY, I AM WAAAAAY OVER EXAGGERATING, or I don't quite understand the situation. I can just see an image of not being able to use the internet because sites continually get shut down.

And your avatar as well, this is why this is terrible. :scared: I've never really liked the government, they just keep finding ways for me not to like them even more :grumpy:

Should we be saying our goodbyes to each other if SOPA is passed?

Yeah, sadly.. :( But I doubt it will though, as a lot of iconic companies oppose to it being signed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the final votes come in early February?

I must make a slight suggestion for change.

"I love everyone on GTP, except for those who live in the GT5 section. :p

 With exceptions.

I just went on Facebook and checked someone's comments for a post that said 🤬 SOPA. First comment? What is SOPA?

But how many people who just the the internet for casual browsing (i.e Facebook, flash games, etc.) are going to know about this, let alone care about it? To them, it's just another bill.

They always use the excuse "we want to stop piracy"...
I'm saying this because is already happening here in italy, and it's really nothing more than an excuse. They started blocking pirate bay and btjunkie, but after that they started to attack things that really doesn't have anything to do with "piracy". (wikipedia for example)
It's a good propaganda job, they demonize internet, they ONLY talk about piracy and that "evil" stuff so people (who doesn't really know/use it, mostly) blindly support them and they can do anything they want.
But they just hate OUR freedom.
I'm sad that it's happening there too, now...but yeah, it's a worldwide thing after all..

As well as people who don't live in America and have no idea what goes on in American politics. I only found out about this yesterday morning when I thought this thread title meant there was a proposed partnership between GTPlanet and a website called SOPA.

Were talking 14 year old kids who sit on Facebook seemingly 24/7 as they all seem to do. I was surprised with how many people were actually talking about it in school today though. But anyway you think they'd see something about SOPA on the web. I think that you should at least keep up to date with news a little bit.

My dad says it's bills like these that are created because no one gets up to vote for new people and change these things, in a nutshell. Doesn't help that half the canidates ain't any good either.

I don't know much about US politics, but I'd say bring back George Bush. He was good right? 👍

God I hope it doesn't go through. I love in Canada but do much of what I look at on the Internet is based from the US. Also whatever the US does with this bill Canada will be sure to follow.

I was more or less aware of what SOPA (soup in here too btw) was, but it was until today when several newspapers, columns and media, specially US diarys (I read them because of work) really got into it because of the blackout that I was finally able to understand what was going on.

Incredible.

I really really hope US congress finds another ways of legislating against copyright infringement and doesnt take the entire world between it's legs. If this passes, the world as we know it will literally change: we won't know it.

People in the US, please work hard for this. We in other parts of the world can only show that we disagree with this nonsense.

Apparently the SOPA bill was refused. I would like to post a link of a trusted source to comfirm this to you guys, but I'm afraid I can't provide one.

It's not over yet though, January 24th, PIPA bill fate will be decided.

Really admire your action Jordan, I have now more respect for the GTPlanet community.
