40 Player online seems to be huge for most reviewers thus far.

9/10 - OPM
9.1/10 - IGN

We'll see how it continues to stack up! but, for a game with less than impressive visuals in comparison to a few other Next Gen titles, that is a HUGE statement about it's gameplay and fun factor.

Was it OPM who stated this game was 720p? Another article said 1080p, and I think JR said it was 1080i?

What's up?

I wish I could like this game. It looks like a good one.

There were multiple revisions, and the build prior to the final build had 1080p support, however, it was scrapped in order to keep the online play stable under all conditions.

I thought their reason was that Resistance didn't run nearly as well in 1080p than in 720p.

Exactly, during multiplayer. There is a significant leap in action from single player to multiplayer, because with single player, everything can be controlled (enemies on screen, etc etc) with multiplayer, it cannot. Thus, it was scrapped because it was having issues. But when OPM played it in 1080p at their office, they did not notice one bit of slowdown.

Too difficult to have online mode in 720p and single player game in 1080p?

That would require switching resolutions for your game. Not all HDTV's support all resolutions via all inputs.

i.e. Some HDTV's only support 480i/480p/720p on one input, while the other uses only 1080i. By giving the game a fixed resolution through all menus and modes of play (either 480i or 720p) which remains standard from the moment you set it, you have a consistent result for all gameplay. As a developer, the last thing you want is an inconsistent gameplay experience for users who may or may not have TV's that support multi-resolution switching, let alone a Single player experience that looks better than your multiplayer experience.

Hmm, okay. I thought it applied to single player too, but I guess I'm wrong.

I've lost all faith in Gamespot.

They gave PDZ a freakin 9/10.

And resistance got an 8.6/10?

Everyone knows PDZ is garbage, I've played it, it's archaic...yet he praises resistance in his review, and then scores it lower.

Can we say next-gen inflation? Robbery, though it won't change my mind, I played the game last night for 3 hours, and it's amazingly fun.

Pfffth, you just figured out that GameSpot is crap? Their reviews suck and their articles suck. Thus why I use IGN.

I just see no possible way for conflicting views that are this drastic. He praises the game, a lot, and then gives it a lower scoer than PDZ (which he did not praise).

I dont trust any site. Game faqs's users opinons are better than any webpage. Untold Ledgends may get .1 higher than genji 2 but Genji 2 isnt a bad game, thats just what everyone will say based on a 6.0 score. but it does everything better than the first game(7.0) and socres lower. Some one's still buying the Dynasty Warrior games yet they get low reviews dispite being better than eash previous game.

I've been watching some decent video of Resistance (mainly from Gametrailers.com) and one thing bothers me. The aiming/movement seems awfully jerky, certainly not what I prefer in my FPS's. Maybe it can be calibrated or customised. But jerking from left to right to left etc...that'd really annoy me. Hopefully you can adjust the sensitivity or something. It needs it.
One thing I do like just by looking at it is there's no horrid fish-eye lens effect. I played the demo of F.E.A.R on the 360 and I could'nt play it, the fish-eye lens effect was too much. At least Resistance it looks natural. Definately a good thing.

Yes you can adjust the sensitivity.

Lots of fun here as well. I'm about 20 hours into it and going slow to learn the controls. They seem much better than when I first started up the game. At first I wasn't really impressed, for being the next Gen console, things looked very familiar to some Computer FPS' that I was all to accustomed to. Much to my surprise, this does look and feel to be a step up from the latest PC based FPS. Oddly enough, what surprised me the most the how realistic the snow was. I know it's such a small detail, but the falling snow moved and acted like real falling snow. They've done a beautiful job on it. Some of the modeling could have been done better but for the most part, it's very smooth and nice to look at. The way the windows brake and the way the glass reacts to bullets or objects is really cool and realistic as well. If this game is a preview of what's to come (and I certainly hope it is) then we have some really good things to look forward to.

There were some details that I felt would have taken this game over top, like foot prints in the snow/dirt/blood, better modeling of crates when you brake them, minor details that allow you to remain sucked in the game without saying, "huh, that just doesn't look right". Then there's the snow and glass mentioned above, along with crumbling concrete wall are the fine details that make you feel the quality in what you're playing.

It's 3:30 am and I just got done with a 7 hour session so be gentle on my grammar and I apologize if all you read is garbage. ;)

The snow is mind blowing...I love the snow stages!

I've been playing through for my third time, trying to finish up super human...IT'S HARD!!!! :grumpy:

The weapons you get on your second play through are AWESOME though.

Just finished the game. I'm sort of a wimp as it comes to FPS on consoles so I finished it on easy, definitely worth a second go around. Coop is also fun, although even with 60" of screen, split screen kinda sucks. Anyways, fun game and what started out as what seemed like graphics that I have already seen on the PC, I was pleasantly surprised. The cheeziest graphics in the, however, is when your buddy mans the gun on the jeep that you drive around. He reminds me of those plastic G.I. Joe guys we played with as kids back in the day. No animation, lifeless, and still. It was even comical to look at.

I just finished up the game as well. Absolutly amazing game. I will echo the comments about the snow effects. No other game on no other system does snow like Resistance. Is it worth $600? Hell yes. Next-gen hasn't started until you seen the snow in Resistance. :)

Do I smell... a sequel?

My wife gives me crap because she says I use weather patterns as an excuse to show off the PS3. I guess between the water/rain effect in the F1 demo and the snow in Resistance, I guess I can see where she's coming from. ;)

What would have made the snow just over the top is if it would collect on the ground and swirl around as you would expect snow to do. Otherwise, they nailed it!!! Already started going through it again with my skills being better than they were the first time around.

Just in case someone is curious, here's a site with a clip showing the snow. Click on the first thumbnail, then you can see it.

EDIT: The snow looks very nice. The only way it could be better is if you saw your guy's breath when he was running, and it slowed down when you stopped. That'd be uber realistic, even in a game such as this.

Not sure if that's what you meant in the highlight red part.

Well, when you're running and moving around, it does appear to be moving either faster if you're moving AGAINST the direction of the snow, or slower if you move IN the direction of the snow falling. When you're just standing there, it does what snow flurries do. Very cool.

I'm talking about the guy's breath. On a cold winter day, you go outside, and you can see your breath. Now, if you run, your heartbeat goes faster, requiring you to breathe more, so you see your breath a lot more. If Insomniac could accurately show you your guy's breath in those snow levels when you're running around and vice versa, I'd think that'd be very cool.

Oh, I got yeah! That would be very cool indeed. Just need some more cell power. When can we link two PS3's together for dual-octet processor computing power? :D
