Any engine can have variable valve timing. VTEC is a Honda trademark, but GM I-6's and Northstar V-8's have variable valve timing, as do some Porsche F-6's.
 
Actually in all reality, the engines in the latest Porsche's, like from the late 80's and on, have what they call "Opposing 6's" which is where there are two banks of 3 cylinders facing directly opposite directions. This engine is also referred to as the "Flat 6" because the cylinder banks are parallel to the ground.
