Namco announced Ridge Racer 7 for PlayStation 3, an exclusive launch title for PS3 in November 2006. The game will take place in the year 2010, and there will be around 200 different vehicles. Ridge Racer 7 will have online support, Namco's goal is to allow at least 16 players to battle online.

Good news, nothing like a new RR game at a console purchase.

Looks good so far, shame the pics aren't the highest quality (obviously they're not "press" photos).
Yeah but I think you can see the quality of the grafics already. I think it will look great, especially since they have over 6 months left.

Wow, this is some news! my first PS2 game was Ridge Racer 5 and now there's gonna be 7 to complement the new console... hard to tell from the pictures but seems to be looking good...Im glad they moved away from the R revolution route and more back to the classic games like the ones reciently been released....

Cant wait for some real in game shots officially released for any PS3 game really!

P.S. I just found some more interesting information in this article...

Although now only a moderate seller, the series remains an important mascot for the PlayStation brand, with a new title launching alongside the PlayStation, PlayStation 2 and PSP. The release of Ridge Racer 6 for the Japanese launch of the Xbox 360 was considered a significant coup, and despite overall disappointing sales, it proved to be the most successful launch title for the format in Japan, selling around 30,000 units in the first week of release, twice as many as closest rival Perfect Dark Zero.

Although a version of Ridge Racer 6 was widely expected for the launch of the PlayStation 3, a full blown sequel was not, and illustrates the continued strong influence that Sony has over Namco in particular and Japanese publishers in general. The game is expected to be shown at E3 in May, although not necessarily in playable form.

hmmmm..... Xbox is still going to have a battle on its hands to appeal to the asian market... there, playstation is truely king and the japaniese developers know that....

Ridge Racer will stick a cork in the 360 fans boys, but us 360 owners who are getting a PS3 as well will be looking forward to this.

I just hope RR7 is better then RR6 guys.

Ridge Racer 5 was kind of lame. Hopefully Namco will put some full fledged next gen polish and feel into this game. The PS3 will give them all sorts of gusto to play with. Now if they'll just use it to its utmost.

I remember getting my PS2 on launch day. RR was one of the first few titles available around the launch time window. I rented it, and thought it was horrible. I never had interest in the series after that, and I still don't.

Maybe this title will turn things around? I hope so, but I'm counting on it being another launch-day-lame-game that's only good as eye candy.

If I had to choose I'd always take the sim racing game like GT4 or Enthusia. But I can also enjoy a good arcade racer every now and then, especially when I connect it to my childhood and that is the case with Ridge Racer....

I played RR5 last night and its not as good as the PSP version interms of control and some graphic elements. I want to play RR6 badly but I also dont want to by an Xb360 untill either the game prices go down like way down. If RR7 makes it.. or should I say the PS3 makes its November release this and Warhak will be my first games. I got RR with PS1 in 95" RR5 with PS2 in 2001. and RR with psp in 05. The trend will continue.

I remember renting Ridge Racer 4 & 5 for the Playstation and Playstation 2, respectively. I think it's about as Arcade a racer as you can get. It'll be interesting to try this new one, but I think Burnout is a better game... *shrugs*

If it has physics and handling as good as PGR3, I think it'll be worth it.

Burnout, a better game?! :nervous:

Yeh I saw this a day ago, looks great. Like alot of you RR5 was a lauch game for me too, ive played all of them including the arcade carnations of the game. The games have always been a great looking game until something comes along, but RR5 still manages to show up alot of games on the ps2.

Define good. Ridge Racer always had perfect controls, but PGR3 is more or less realistic, whereas RR is absolutly arcade...

It has them, they're just not close to real life physics we'd experience in similar car's. Pong used physics, basic, but they were there.

Oh I know, I own 4 Ridge Racer games currently and have played all but Rage Racer and RR6.

Rage Racer was great, it was the first game I played where you raced for cash then bought new car's and upgraded them, though you could only upgrade the car as a whole, at that time (pre Gran urismo) it was cool.

Those are some pretty crisp images! If the driving was at least to GT3 standards, I think I might have to get that. Unless some Gran Turismo game comes out at launch or close to it, but that does look tasty...

It's not a sim, not even tryig to feel like a sim. RR is the text book definition of an arcade racer. They tried sim with R:racing Evolution, and failed.

Yeh Max DC, ive had those images on my blog for about 4 days now, they look great, those are about a quater of the full rez ones tho. :)

Awesome sprite, they are a lot better than mine :ouch: ;)
The grafics really look great imo, way better than RR6. Make sure to post here more often sprite :)

These pics are obviously just promotional renders. I'm not saying the game won't end up looking exactly like these pics, but its wise to reserve judgement until you see the game running at E3, with some proper gameplay vids.
