Ridiculously overpriced used cars

I swear there are people who buy certain cars (Porsches in particular) in a colour that they know damn well will be unpopular (and probably don't even like themselves) because it gives them an excuse to bump up the price years later due it being 'rare'.

I’d say this is both a rare sale and ridiculously priced.
UPDATE: The Jetta GLI sold for $29,001.

My ‘88 was just like that( minus the BBS, I had the stock 14” tear drops), when I bought it for $2800 in 1998. I eventually did a VR6 conversion. I still miss those Recaros(so comfortable on trips from NY-VA Beach-NY), wind open sunroof and that huge trunk. A classic.

Nearly $94k for a 4Runner is the definition of a crackpipe deal. But hey, 1.9% APR is legit.

These examples are all most likely going back to the factory to handle the restoration. The only thing the owners worry about is what to write on the cheque.

But the market for Ferrari’s is just insane. So people will put that money in the process because there is always somebody who is willing to pay extra millions for it.

Hopefully we can look at the car at the Mille Miglia in a few years and not tucked away in some garage…

Ferrari doesn’t restore cars.
Perhaps a specialist will. I know a few that will likely do it. And I agree that the owner will write a blanco cheque for it.
Still, they need to restore it with new and tailored made bolts and bits, without the matching numbers, I guess. The purists seem to dislike that.

Got this from Reddit

https://www.iconiccoach.com/invento...upra-Twin-Turbo-*6-Speed*-1-of-24-Quicksilver Saw this on Reddit and had to verify for myself, turns out it's legit. It's also the reason why i'm gonna just get a N/A SZ and Turbo it ; even with the rare color option that alone doesn't justify basically $500,000 for a Supra. I will admit that the car looks immaculate though ngl those chrome base wheels look sick.

If you see the prices of Corollas, I’m definitely bumping mine up to 20,000(Pounds, USD, Euros). Any Toyota, owners are bonkers for what they think people will buy them for.

Considering how many were made (millions) the prices for Volvo 240s have gone insane. A good low milage example can go for between $10-15k, and that’s here in Sweden where most of ‘em are located.

Forget any classic car prices. Around here people list vehicles with rotted rocker panels and/or rust and rot around the wheel wells for over $6000 with 300,000kms. I’ve even seen some at $10,000. I’m not sure when this became the norm. You used to be able to find a “winter beater” for $500-$1000. Now, for pretty much any vehicle, $5000 seems to be the going rate. The other day I saw one that was exactly how I described but the engine was seized and they were still asking $2500.

I guess in their minds they think, hey just get a new engine or one from the wrecker and have a mechanic installed it and you’re back in business, then this is a $5000 rusted 2002 minivan all. day. long.

It seems the mentality is if it starts and drives its $5000. Doesn’t matter the shape or if the ac works or anything, if it meets the starts and drives requirement your vehicle is worth $5000 minimum.

Pricing this for $71k is stupid.

Mileage is the big factor if authentic. People in the states are going crazy for Skylines & someone will snatch this up if it really is sporting only 2,983 miles on the odo. It looks to be in like-new condition.

Yeah, that's part of the problem. I hate the market.

However, my mistake; I didn't look at the mileage. I'm still not sure if the price is justified though, can't believe people are paying this much for a name like it's magic.

Taking a quick look at BaT, the price probably is a bit too high as a 5,000 mile example only bid up to $40,000, so maybe this is worth closer to $50,000. But, Skylines also don't seem to be selling well on that site, so I wonder if sellers are just asking too much in reserve or buyers are going to remain patient as more & more hit the 25-year mark.

The dam breaking on R34s (and the Evos people actually want, ie. Vs and VIs) I suspect will drive down the prices of the others though. Like a reverse 993 situation.

What is the 993 situation? The 993 Turbo/Turbo S/GT2s going for truly absurd money pushing the value of run of the mill 993s to unreasonable money?

I feel like the Porsche market, generally, is unsustainably hot. Just looking at BAT, there are non-turbo 993s selling for over $200k. I get that they are the last of the air cooled cars, but are they really worth 2 or 3x more than a Ferrari 360? Those seem like such great value at the moment, considering they can be had for well under $100k all day long, some of them down in the 60k range with reasonable mileage. The whole Porsche situation is interesting to me because I think Porsche used to be seen as the poorer man's alternative to Ferrari. They were much cheaper and less impressive, but they had motorsport credentials. Somewhere along the way this has been flipped on its head - at least in terms of latter 20th century models.
